Jehovah's Witnesses - Are they loving?
by brotherdan injehovah's witnesses love to claim that they are a true religion because they are the most loving people on earth.
they rant and rave about how they apply john 13:35 to themselves.. in a recent conversation with djeggnog, i was shocked at some of the hateful things that he was saying to me.
now i know that i have been in some pretty heated debates with others, but i try to never make it personal.

What is your definition of a "Fundi" or a Fundamentalist?
by brotherdan ini've been called a "fundi" many times in my discussions with people on the board, and i'd like to know what your definition is of a "fundi".
don't google it.
i just want to hear your personal definition.. i find it interesting because i don't go to any church.

Those here that think that you are either Sola Scriptura or hypocritical have a very narrow and inaccurate perception. It is conditioned by their Watchtower past. It is a false dichotomy. It shows a dim understanding of Christianity in its totality.
On the contrary, I feel it's a perfect understanding of the mental gymnastics and biblical cherrypicking that it takes to actually remain a Christian if you want to have anything to do with the bible at all. Just toss out all the bits that make you uncomfortable, interpret the parts that don't make sense as metaphors, and feel warm and fuzzy about all the stuff Jesus said....and voila!!! you are an enlightened Christian.

The Sun is Alive and Exerts Power
by sabastious intell me if i am crazy, but i think the human race is ignoring something extremly simple.
when we go outside on a cloudless day... we all seem to ignore the giant burning ball in the sky.. think about it.. the sun truly is the bringer of all earthen life; without it's effects we would all perish.
did you know we have never sent a probe to the sun?

Good thread.
The biggest thing that struck me when I went to Christmas mass this year was how we were really just engaging in sun-worship, even now. Not just because of the solstice, but because of the things we were saying. "Come Lord Jesus, the Light Bringer", everything was about bringing the light and driving out the darkness, metaphors like that.
Jesus was just another sun-god. The sun was the first thing we worshipped, and it was the most useful thing we've ever worshipped, too. Except for penises and breasts.

Jehovah's Witnesses - Once Again the Fastest Growing Faith in the U.S.
by davidl7 inaccording to the latest statistics published by the ncc in its yearbook of american and canadian churches, the jehovah's witnesess had the highest growth rate, in 2010 growing 4.37%.
this is, i believe, is the 4th year in a row, that the witnesses had the highest growth rate.
roman catholics grew by less than 1%, as did most of the other churches listed.

Looks like irrefutable evidence of Jehovah's blessing to me.

If God truly loved humans...why not reveal himself ? So that they could make an informed decision ?
by smiddy inwe learn from the bible that god spoke to adam ,then certain faithful ones, then after moses only the preisthood that was established, and individuals, raised as prophets, and this by the way is only a a small select group on the planet.never mind about other groups of humans.
fastforward to the era of christ ,again, god is only dealing with a small select group to advise and admonish.during the time from moses to christ he was only dealing with what became one small nation.the rest of humankind were left to their own devices.fastforward down to this 21st century we have no guidance/instruction/prophets to instruct or guide us.
( i know this is where jw`s would say but we have been preaching & teaching you god`s truths since 1879 ) all i can say their, is take your head out of the sand and look at all the changes ,corrections adjustments,re-adjustments,reversals,and failed expectations of prophecy you have published over this last century )so as to my question why hasn`t the god of the universe revealed himself to all humans of every race on all continents instead of just a small select group, if he truly was interested in the human race.

God can't be God when there is nothing...So Man rescued him!
by Terry inbefore god began creating...there was nothing.. when there is nothing that means there is nothing to know....and therefore nothing to love.. god was alone with nothing to distinguish him from nothingness!.
a "mind"?.
filled with what, actually?.

Or we're not worthy, not listening, not exercising even a bit of faith in the Son He sent to reveal himself to us.
See also: blaming the victim. If the best this deity can manage is ancient literary hearsay - then he is not God at all. And I am most certainly not going to blame myself for his incompetence. And neither should you.

Okay, lets try it this way. He started out walking with Adam and Eve. That got forgotten (except for what is written). He spoke to Moses, led His people from Egypt (many miracles there), all of which faded into the realm of disbelief - even among the people from that generation. Daniel in the fire - never mind that, it never really happened... etc, etc.
But He HAS revealed Himself to us through His Son, this last time. We only have to look to the Son to see Him, but here we are, so many people disbelieving that this Son ever existed, never mind that He performed those miracles or rose from the dead.
We aren't very good at hearing or seeing
Let's try that Thomas Paine's way - he says it more eloquently than I could.
As it is necessary to affix right ideas to words, I will, before I proceed further into the subject, offer some observations on the word 'revelation.' Revelation when applied to religion, means something communicated immediately from God to man.
No one will deny or dispute the power of the Almighty to make such a communication if he pleases. But admitting, for the sake of a case, that something has been revealed to a certain person, and not revealed to any other person, it is revelation to that person only. When he tells it to a second person, a second to a third, a third to a fourth, and so on, it ceases to be a revelation to all those persons. It is revelation to the first person only, and hearsay to every other, and, consequently, they are not obliged to believe it.
It is a contradiction in terms and ideas to call anything a revelation that comes to us at second hand, either verbally or in writing. Revelation is necessarily limited to the first communication. After this, it is only an account of something which that person says was a revelation made to him; and though he may find himself obliged to believe it, it cannot be incumbent on me to believe it in the same manner, for it was not a revelation made to me, and I have only his word for it that it was made to him.
...
When also I am told that a woman, called the Virgin Mary, said, or gave out, that she was with child without any cohabitation with a man, and that her betrothed husband, Joseph, said that an angel told him so, I have a right to believe them or not: such a circumstance required a much stronger evidence than their bare word for it: but we have not even this; for neither Joseph nor Mary wrote any such matter themselves. It is only reported by others that they said so. It is hearsay upon hearsay, and I do not chose to rest my belief upon such evidence.
None of us are bound to believe ANY of those stories. If they ACTUALLY happened, they ought to be able to happen again in a way that is completely indisputable for any of us, and neither you nor I should share any part of the blame for God's failure in that regard. This God who cannot manage to irrefutably manifest himself to ALL people (as the Sun does) is a piss-poor God - and we can conclude that he is either not real or he is not worthy.

Is He to blame for us not listening, or for keeping our children and therefore, our descendants, from listening? Who says He never tried?
A God who has to "try" to reveal himself - and what's more, fails to do so - is no God at all. The Sun is a much better deity.
