  i am hoping you can help me.

  i have a very dear friend of over 20 years, who was brought up jw.

  our children are friends and we have vacationed and been like sisters all these years.

  Just wanted to keep you all up to date. They have backed off a bit in the last few weeks, I am not sure why, they do have company. I am learning so much from reading this site. I have been appalled at the disfellowshipping, the shunning and the general family wrecking this cult has done. One thing that really jumped out at me, was someone said, "How can the JWs complain about all of the other pagan religions, when JW founder had pagan symbols on gravesite,pyramid calculations, Masons and lots more". So I did some of my own research on this, since they have complained in the past to me about my Lutheran background (pagan) my husbands Catholic background (pagan), I found it fascinating that the JWs first years of conception are steeped in paganism. What do you all think of this? Since she is always hammering me on paganism, wouldn't they be interested in the history of their religion, or am I making more trouble for myself?

  I am so happy to have found you all, you are helping me with my resolve. I guess, because of being best friends for so long, I continue to try to "fix it", I now know it is futile. I have send off an emai to them with my thoughts on Michael and Jesus. Which I know they will refute in some way and there would be more debates. I will have to say "I must stop my study, as I am not in agreement, with many of the WT teachings" They will respond "What are they lets talk more about them" But honestly, it is exhausting to talk to them, I can't believe the amount of energy they put into their Bible studies, hours and hours each week. And the energy to save me. I know that their children/grandchildren will no longer be allowed to play with mine. One of their children is marrying an elder, I have met him and what a puffed up superior acting man he is, I don't think he ever has liked me. As I ask too many questions, I have even heard him say "Do you know who you are talking to?" pointing his finger at one of the younger women.....yikes! Everyone hung their heads like little children, as I sat in amazement. I feel this is a fear based religion, I want no part of it.

  Wow, I thank you all for all of your kind replies, and so quickly. I just got off the phone with her and now she has her husband working on me too! I feel overwhelmed and amazed at how convincing they can be. They now are asking me for scriptures as to why they are wrong and I am correct. They asked me what things have bothered me the most, one of them I responded is that I don't feel that Michael the angel is Jesus. They said you can't just say that, you have to support what you say with scripture. So now I am on the hunt for scriptures to refute them, but I feel this sort of sick feeling in my stomach, as my friend says " You know in this system the devil is in power, so what do you think he is trying to get you to do? He is after you to have doubts and not trust what we are teaching you." It is now coming to a head as they are saying that I have to choose my path, the narrow or the wide. Quite distressing, I must say. I am on the hunt as I write this, as they are waiting for a response from me today.

  Hello All,

  I am hoping you can help me. I have a very dear friend of over 20 years, who was brought up JW. Our children are friends and we have vacationed and been like sisters all these years. She lapsed for the 20 years I knew her and now she is back to being a JW full throttle. I stupidly gave consent to study with her, thinking it would be conversations about religion. I have been talking with her at least once a week, for up to 3 hours at a time for over 8 months. The pressure and the guilt that is getting laid on me is frightening, I have done my due diligence to prove that she is wrong, but I am no match for her Bible arguments. And I suspect, if I was a Bible Scholar, it would be the same, she would say I was being controled by the devil.

  Here is my real dilemma, how do I stay her good friend without becoming a JW? She says she loves me so much and doesn't want to lose me in Armegeddon. I believe her heart is full of fear for me, she won't listen to me about the past false prophecies, she says the light wasn't bright at that time! I think they are paranoid and manipulative. But there is no way that I can see to convince her of this. So here comes the question, is there a way to be a close friend of a JW without being one? Have you seen this happen? What can I say to her that won't offend but will get her off my back?
