r....get a charcoal grill - much better flavor!!!!!!
Here here!
Cooking with a gas grill is in my opinion no better than cooking on the stovetop with a frying pan! It creates the illusion of barbecuing - but without the flavor!

i didn't use my gas grill at all last year.
i pulled off the cover today, lifted the lid and wanted to faint.
i just installed a new gas tank and am running it at 500 degrees.

7.8-magnitude earthquake strikes northern sumatra, indonesia .
All I know is... the pacific plate is clearly shifting right now... so this could be it for California.... it'll probably fall off into the ocean any day now.
(Seriously though... anybody in CA might want to consider appraising their earthquake kit and the earthquake readiness of their home. Things be-a-movin right now.)

From what I saw in a CNN report, it happened under relatively shallow ocean, and is not expected to cause a major tsunami.

a cape town mother is living in fear that she may lose her son to a demonic curse.. .
the frightened mother says her 12-year-old boy has vanished from home four times since an evil voice started luring him away.. .
local holy men say there are satanic forces at play, trying to steal the boy's soul.. .
The bogeyman (also spelled boogyman, bogyman, boogieman, boogey monster) is a legendary ghost-like monster. The bogeyman has no specific appearance and conceptions of the monster can vary drastically even from household to household within the same community; in many cases, he simply has no set appearance in the mind of a child, but is just an amorphous embodiment of terror. Bogeyman can be used metaphorically to denote a person or thing of which someone has an irrational fear. Parents often say that if their child is naughty, the bogeyman will get them, in an effort to make them behave. The bogeyman legend may originate from Scotland, where such creatures are sometimes called bogles, boggarts, or boggers. [1]
Bogeyman tales vary by region. In some places, the bogeyman is male; in others, female, and in others, both. In some Midwestern states of the USA, the bogeyman scratches at the window. In the Pacific Northwest, he may manifest in "green fog". In other places, he hides under the bed or in the closet and tickles children when they go to sleep at night. It is said that a wart can be transmitted to someone by the bogeyman. [1] Bogeymen may be said to target a specific mischief – for instance, a bogeyman that punishes children who suck their thumbs – or general misbehaviour.

he is kind of new but a nice guy... i knew there was something wrong with him.
just went over to ask him something and he had the cd-rom version of the nwt on his desk.
it was like count dracula seeing the cross.
Wear a Cross..
Don't do that.. that just tells JWs you're interested in the bible and provides a conversation starter. Wear a pentagram.

weirdest thing ever just happened.. my daughters toy started playing music by itself.
there was nothing around it that could have caused it to do that.
and it just happened 4 times in a row and then i called out to my husband and it just stopped.
Battery operated devices can also mis-behave if the batteries are low on power - especially if the toy or device has a 'soft' on/off switch (press once for on, press again or press & hold for off). A microcontroller inside may waiting for an input (such as a button, switch, etc) to go 'low' - and if the batteries are low on power sometimes 'high' can be mis-interpretted as 'low'.

from where we are in phoenix, it was barely detectable.
a neighbor said he felt his bed move.
i was sitting in a chair and felt like i was back on the cruise ship in wavy water.
Here ya go (I just googled Earthquake statistics)
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.php
They used to have some nice line graphs going all the way back to like 1960, but I can't find those anymore. Now all I can find on their site is bar graphs back to 1980.

I'm sure my parents will bring it up in the course of our next discussion (considering we just had the one in Chile and Haiti... add to that San Diago this morning, Nevada and Baja California).
You see, my parents don't understand the concept of the "world". It's not a big deal if something bad happens in say.. North Africa. But if something happens in America - holy crap, this is it.
If they want to make an issue of it, I'll just point out the facts again:
Magnitude | 2000 | 2001 | 2002 | 2003 | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
8.0 to 9.9 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
7.0 to 7.9 | 14 | 15 | 13 | 14 | 14 | 10 | 9 | 14 | 12 | 16 | 3 |
6.0 to 6.9 | 146 | 121 | 127 | 140 | 141 | 140 | 142 | 178 | 168 | 142 | 53 |
5.0 to 5.9 | 1344 | 1224 | 1201 | 1203 | 1515 | 1693 | 1712 | 2074 | 1768 | 1725 | 654 |
4.0 to 4.9 | 8008 | 7991 | 8541 | 8462 | 10888 | 13917 | 12838 | 12078 | 12291 | 6956 | 2031 |
3.0 to 3.9 | 4827 | 6266 | 7068 | 7624 | 7932 | 9191 | 9990 | 9889 | 11735 | 2897 | 434 |
2.0 to 2.9 | 3765 | 4164 | 6419 | 7727 | 6316 | 4636 | 4027 | 3597 | 3860 | 3007 | 646 |
1.0 to 1.9 | 1026 | 944 | 1137 | 2506 | 1344 | 26 | 18 | 42 | 21 | 26 | 7 |
0.1 to 0.9 | 5 | 1 | 10 | 134 | 103 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
So... this one makes the 4th magnitude 7-7.9 quake this year, putting us on track at the current rate for a total of around 12 by the end of the year, which is right around average.
If they still want to pursue it, I'll just mention that due to Haiti, the US media may be reporting these earthquakes a bit more... but just like they did after the Tsunami in 2004 they'll lose interest again.
From what I read, none of the quakes in San Diego, Baja California, or Nevada resulted in serious damage or any deaths.

after reading 'the greatest show on earth' by dawkins, i have been intrigued by how biblical literalists explain the many findings that seem to support evolution and contradict various parts of the bible.
in doing to i have browsed around on aig but i have generally felt let down by the quality of evidence and interpretations they present.
so i would like to ask all non-evolutionists: if i wanted to learn more about the physical case against evolution, what books should i read?
If you want an intelligent discussion on a scientific concept, look to science. Science knows science best, and science is self-scrutinizing.
I'd suggest you start at the source: chapter 6 in On the Origin of the Species is entitled "Difficulties on Theory". Naturally, as the book was published 200 years ago, and we've learned an amazing number of things in the past 200 years - these difficulties have largely been put to rest - but t's a good start in understanding what fundamental things could potentially disprove the theory.
With any book - "Google is your friend". Several books that set out to debunk evolution (Like Behe's) continue making outdated claims and have long since been throughly debunked. TalkOrigins is a handy reference in that regard, as it provides references and links for further reading on each individual claim. Perhaps compare it's insights on each point with that of a good counter-evolution site (does anyone have a link?)
