Five years ago they were saying that the call for peace and security had sufficiently sounded, the worldwide witness was sufficiently given, and the only thing left was that religion had to be attacked by the wild beast. That was the last thing the GB was waiting for.

Here's an update to what has happened since I used the words, "Big News," five years ago
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/103353/1/the-news-is-bigger-than-dateline-bbc-cbc-etc.
as many of you know, i made the "big news" statement when kerry louderback-wood's scholarly article about watch tower's blood misrepresentation that was published in the journal of church and state was just about to be published.
i was excited about it because lives were at stake and weve never had such an article before to be able to use to show how the watch tower misrepresents the blood issue through its literature and people die because of it.

@MrMonroe
Using the that logic any sin could be considered a conscience matter.

Perhaps some clarification would be in order in regards to your statement that blood transfusions are said to be a conscience matter. I don't know who is saying that, but it certainly isn't coming from "God's channel of communication". The recent Elder's manual clearly outlined that accepting a blood transfusion was an act that constituted disassociation by actions.

Black Friday Stampedes VS. District Convention Morning Gate Openings
by Mr. Falcon inhas anyone had a jw rant to them around christmas time about how "horrible" it is to be a "worldly" person at that time of year?.
certian jws love to use the infamous black friday shopping riots that tend to occur as examples to back up this argument.
now, while those incidents are indeed disgraceful, they are hardly isolated to the "world".. among my "priveliges" was to be an attendant at a few district conventions.

Sadly, I witnessed an older woman fall in line. The way the others funneled in right past her was disgusting.

Another thing that it is interesting about these religions is that they are started by a founder with some "out there" ideas, but the religion doesn't really take shape until the next heavy handed leader comes in. Scientology's Miscavige is to Rutheford, as L. Ron is to Russell. The same can be seen in the Mormon Church with Brigham Young and Joseph Smith.

Latest Big Love reaction at the undercover house...
by undercover inso i dvrd the last couple of episodes of big love.
wasn't able to watch them at first broadcast the last couple of weeks.. we've watched this series from it's start and haven't missed an episode.
as the cultishness of the compound and even bill's family became more central to the story...and the off-hand criticisms of the 'real' mormon church are leveled, i sense mild anxiety at times while watching the show.

Final episode it is revealed that, Bill was shot, went into a coma and everything that has happened during the course of the program has been a dream. He wakes up in the Big House bed, Roman Grant's cowboy hat is on the bed post. Nicky sits by his side, in a prarie dress, and hair in a bun. "There, there Prophet," she says while wiping his head with a cool rag, "you're safe and sound back in Juniper Creek." The end.

who succeeded Fred Franz not as President but the theological guru
by ex-Special Pioneer infor decades fred franz was the guru of the watchtower bible & tract society.
he was obsessed with "biblical prophecy" trying to explain the book of daniel and revelation.
who took over after he stopped writing and who is considered the authority on the jws teaching today especially the so called "prophetic interpretation?

The answer is no one. New light since his passing has largely been reactionary as prophetic interpretations pass their "use by" date or when organization procedures/policies need tweaked to respond to a current crisis.
Franz' pontifications were merely a continuation of Rutherford's. There have even been suggestions that Franz was Rutherford's ghost writer. They were born out of the schisming within the Bible students and the creation of Jehovah's Witnesses as a distinct sect. Rutherford not only had the need to distinguish the group from other Christian sects, he had the need to distinguish his loyalists (later recoined Jehovah's Witnesses) from other Bible Student sects. The way he went about this was by creatively reinterpretting Bible prophecies and applying them to his group. This is where you get into all of the typology that makes the Organization the greater this and that. Negative types in the Bible are applied to "Christendom" or apostates, Bible Students that did not adhere to Rutherford's leadership. This is why to this day you still have all of these Bible prophecies being applied to the Watchtower during the 1920's and 30's, such as Daniel's days or Revelation's trumpet blasts.
The organization lately is not really as focused on prophecy as during the Rutherford/Franz era. Recent books on prophecy have more to do with things like dress and grooming, Internet pornography, and meeting attendance. When prophecy is dealt with it is primarlily cut and paste from older Watchtowers.

Our family's reaction is that last season wasn't that great and the final season isn't shaping up to be any better.
