So long as we are confessing - one of my favorite tricks was to made-up return visit. Basically I would claim not to know the address but direct the car to some street way across town and then look for the driveway/house that looked empty. "Yep, there it is. Oh rats, her white car isn't there. I guess I'll try the door anyway since we came all this way."

Got a visit from door-to-door JW's!
by donuthole intoday while i was home for a quick lunch break i got a knock at the door.
i opened the door and was surprised to see two elderly jehovah's witnesses women.
i haven't been called on since i've been out for four years, so this was a bit of surprise.

DH, have you shared your experience here? If so, I would be interested in hearing it.
I don't think I have -- just snippets here and there. If you'll PM me your e-mail address I'll send you my story.
I hope my family says "hi" back to you when you greet them.
Eh ... not yet, but maybe some day.

You do not have to answer that if the question is too personal to either you or donuthole.
It isn't too personal for me. Yes as Snakes has indicated a couple of times, he was one of five elders that sat in on my judicial committee. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise if one day others didn't turn up on this forum as well. (JH, if you are reading I still love you and wouldn't turn down a chance to buy you a beer and catch up.)
That being said, in my opinion Snakes was a good elder and assett to the congregation. He had a sense of justice, had courage, and manifest great kindness and care, particularly toward the old-timers. Any chance I can talk you into going back? I hear Wood River may have some openings on the elder's body. Kidding of course, but it would be wonderful if you can find a place, not necessarily religious, where you can use those qualities to the benefit of others.
There are rules, fellow. If you can't follow them, they will double disfellowship you
LOL. That reminded me of something that my wife said. I had my JC appeal on a Sunday and then the memorial happened the following Wednesday, so it hadn't been anounced yet. Well every year at memorial time I always felt the desire to greet DF'd ones who showed up that time of the year. It just seemed wrong to ignore them when they made the effort to attend. (So I kind of did that stupid head nod and smile that JW's do and try to think they are being kind.) Well that last memorial - I figured what is holding me back and did what I should have done all those other years. So I took the time to greet any that I saw and tell them how glad I was to see them. I think some of the elders observed this and didn't appreciate it - my wife said, what will they do, disfellowship you twice?

Ginny. Haven't heard from you in a while. I hope you are doing well. I see your family from time to time at Wal-Mart. Sometimes I say "hello".

by Gayle inwatchtower offers huge donation of "field" assistancediv class=subhead>the rvba leads the way to a continuous rondout valley rail trail</div><pby chris rowley .
pine bush a startling offer from watchtower, the jehovah's witnesses' organization centered on red mills road, worth about $136,000, has the pine bush central school district scrambling to see if it can take advantage of the offer.
at the school board meeting on tuesday, september 14, tom walraven, physical education teacher and varsity baseball coach, presented a plan to the board for repairing the e.j.russell field.

I know in the past the Watchtower has donated equipment for park projects and money for fire trucks. Often this is used to curry favor with the local community/municipality, particuarly as it benefits Watchtower building projects.

Loyalty Keeps Us Morally Clean
by sd-7 ina rebellion had begun.
in moses' absence, the israelites built a golden calf and engaged in idolatrous reveling.
the clamor of their immoral festivities was clearly identifiable as improper.

If you sent this in to the writing department it wouldn't surprise me if spent a couple years in a cabinet or desk before somehow finding its way into the Watchtower. This is spot-on. There is nothing to distinguish this from a real Watchtower article. Same writing style. Same strained "scriptural applications". Same policing all aspects of a JW's life.

Did you ever figure out who the other sister was?
No. But she knew me. Is my name on the Territory Card? LOL. I figured she might be from the former-Litchfield hall or something. Maybe an old-timer I should've known.

I like your call out to them. That was first class!
I can't take credit for that one. I just acted according to how the Spirit has taught me.

Bethel Rules
by brotherdan inthis was brought up just in passing on another thread.
but i wanted to see if there are any bethelites or ex bethelites that remember some of the crazy rules we had to follow when we were there..

Don't Catholic nuns also have to take a 'vow of poverty'?? Hmmmm.......sounds to me like Crooklyn has more in common with the Great Harlot than just a pedophile problem.........
Actually it is very similar. Bethelites are under a corporation known as the Religious Order of Jehovah's Witnesses which is not unlike a Catholic religious order. I forget the background on this but this order was established in 2000 because of some kind of legal/tax problem they ran into in the past.
