It's interesting that JW spent so much time advertising JW.ORG and promoting the modern face of their organization. Yet their efforts are undermined by ignorant GB comments going viral.
"Tight pants" and "spanx" are trivial. What isn't trivial is having a member of the GB openly mocked by the public. Some JW's are even joining in. Has this happened since Rutheford?
Anything that helps to dispel the illusion of the Governing Body being some sort of divinely-directed Faithful Slave is welcome! -

Please send new, warm socks, the more COLORFUL the better. Kids need socks too, so don't forget them. After the socks are collected, we'll forward to an appropriate charity to be determined. (I'm targeting mid-December, to give us a month for collection.) It might be fun to take a picture of the colorful bounty and send to TOMO so he can experience the joy of socks. Afterall, Watchtower and Awake! magazines can't keep feet warm!

Zone Visit: An Announcement That Will "Test Your Faith"

The "test your faith" line was also used in the promo video for the Atlanta international convention. It was in regard to the convulated travel scheme, that had people going an hour of the way to get to the convention center, through designated public transportation routes. It seemed really odd, even non-sensical. Perhaps it was really a test run to see how compliant congregations would go to travel out of their way to a meeting?
If there really is news, my guess is that US congregations will be merged, which may involve increased travel time/costs. -

It might be interesting to watch and see if references to 1914 continue to eliminate 607 BCE and other problems.
Based on the original posters' report this continues the GB's new approach of providing a point of doctrine without having to really back it up. Their word is law and must be taken as such.
This ties in with what was presented at the annual meeting, where they said they would move away from types and antitypes.
How much proof does a mormon get that Joseph Smith found magic tablets?
JW.ORG is not going to be a psuedo-intellectual religion of serious Bible students. It's going to be an emotion based, high-control group.

GB Doesnt Believe in 1914 Anymore My reasoning
by thedepressedsoul ini have heard a lot of talk over the last year or so if the gb will eventually ditch 1914 and some have even made the claim that most, if not all of the gb do not believe in 1914. ive given this some thought and in the past i wasnt sure.
this annual meeting puts 100%, without a doubt in my mind that the gb do not believe in 1914. id even go as far to say that they talked about that date and have a game plan in mind.. here is why i feel this way:.
there were a lot of changes with the parables at this annual meeting.

The Watchtower needed 1914/1919. JW.ORG does not. We are dealing with a new religion and the old rules don't apply.
My thought is that the GB will use Watchtower history as evidence of divine appointment. The story of a small group of "Bible students" to a multinational modern religion will used as proof of Jah's favor.
It's going to be dumb downed, streamlined, bright and flashy.
