An article of great impact. I have felt this for a long time, but have never found the right words.

A Return to the Basics - Part I
by Farkel inevery so often we get so stuck with specifics and the latest wt scandals or doctrinal nuances that it's good to get back to the basics.
that is the purpose of this thread.
i cannot count the times that, when dubs arguments are demolished with quotes from their own literature and practices, they resort to this statement in sheer desperation: well, at least weve got the basics right.

New Tract-Youths What Will You Do With Your Life
by Scarlet ini was wondering if any of you have read this tract that was given out at the district convention .. i found in this tract they are pushing the fulltime ministry more than ever before.
they in so many words say if you are not a fulltime minister you are not serving god.
it stated that youths today should not strive for academic success.

I found in this tract they are pushing the fulltime ministry more than ever before. They in so many words say if you are not a fulltime minister you are not serving God. It stated that youths today should not strive for academic success. That there is no greater job than being a pioneer. You should not work more than part-time.
So this is a recent tract? Not surprising at all. Do you have any direct quotes to share with us from the tract? I have commented on this issue many times. I was wondering how long it was going to take for the society to crack back down on higher education.
Over the last 5 years (in AUS anyway) JW youths were no longer really discouraged from higher education, in fact, completion of high schoool was encouraged. Lots of my peers went to uni and college, and are just finishing their degrees. As a result, they are basicaly alot smarter than the JW's from the generation before.
Now back comes the "Fulltime ministry" rubbish. Why?
Because young ones are becoming too educated at uni, that's why. Because uni also comes with free access to the internet anytime you want. And we all know what that leads to. LOL

I wrote to the UN
by StinkyPantz ini wrote to the united nations friday so that i could get the information about the watchtower's association with them from the proverbial horse's mouth.
i want to show my parents that what i'm saying about the watchtower is not just something we evil "apostates" made up.
what i received was the exact same letter that i've found on the web, but since these are addressed to me (addressed to my email addy) from officers in the un maybe they'll actually take a look.

Do you get disappointed if no one responds?
by Larry inwriting should be for our own edification - a personal cleansing, therapeutic at the least.
if you write for other people's approval, you will be disappointed, especially when you share your thoughts on the 'net.
i've seen many folks get 'burn-out' from these boards b/c they don't get the expected respond to their post.

I don't usually mind if I don't get a big response, but while were on the topic, I may as well mention one certain thread that I started which I dod'nt get much feedback for: "A question about shunning" I got a few good responses, but i'd still like a bit more help. If anyone feels they can help me out, the thread is:

It would be much appreciated.

>Damn, stinky, I wish I got a letter, I wrote a letter to them 6 months ago, and did'nt receive one back, I then followed this up with 2 e-mails, but no response. The reply was really important to me, as I know it would have really affected my parents, as they still insist that the WT did not agree to support the UN charter. It is important that I have the letter sent to me, and not something from the net, as they won't look. What can I do? Can someone give me some advice? Should I just keep writing to them? Is it coz i'm from Australia, should I send a pre paid envelope for them, or what?

U.N. Question
by miner incan someone tell me if there is a clear statement, preferably from the u.n., that shows the watchtower's dishonesty in this matter?
not long ago, i was discussing the u.n. situation with a jw friend.
he decided to call the wt legal department in this country.

While the topic's up again, I also have a question: In the letter I received beck from the WT bethel, it quotes something like this:
"Registration papers that we have on file contain no statements that conflict with our christian beliefs"
My question is, has anyone actually written back and requested copies of these papers? Has anyone received any?
I am thinking of doing this myself, but want to know if someone has done this already.
Thank You

JW Dictionary
by thinker inwarning !.
the following "dictionary" may be very discomforting to true believers of jehovah's organization.
if you ask too many questions about these things you are told " jehovah will make it all clear in time.

Elders - electricains who make good psychotherapists.
LOL Larc, this thread is hilarious, I just skimmed past it, so someone may have already done this one, but what about:
1.LOVE: Something we have for our fellow brother, projected most beautifully by shunning them completely if they should ever display any of the already mentioned definitions such as "Questioning".
2.GOAT: Anyone who is'nt a Jehovahs Witness
3.TWISTED APOSTATE: Anyone who researches publications outside of the WTBS.
This can also be prevelant in anyone who speaks of the following issues:
United Nations
Old Watchtower Issues
Watchtower History
or
Claiming to have been sexually abused, which can result in point number 1.

I knew of many people who suffered from depression in the org, although I don't know if I would go so far as to say they suffered from this BECAUSE of the org.
I can only relate my own personal experiences -
I suffered from depression in the org.
I suffered from anxiety in the org.
I now have quite bad paranoia and anxiety, from what I KNOW was because of my experiences in the org.
But, I am working through it and getting alot of help, and as a result, I am much happier now.
I do not beleive that this organisation was one of "happy people" that's for sure.

Does the wtbts have a 'bible study' on this?
by Bang ini posted this on the main section but it seems that it's not a well known issue.
it's the question regarding the way jws go door to door.
[luke 10:7.23] and remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house.

Both myself and my husband are sales managers and we had a conversation about JW's going from door to door. In Australia (religion aside) door to door selling is the least effective tactic you can take. Reason being (which I dont really need to state do I?), the salespeople are invading on the individuals personal space, which i'm sure you will all agree, is extremely rude and pushy. When it's JW's - hell, you can imagine how much worse this becomes.
I have never actually been told why it has to be from door to door, but it makes you wonder, why do they persist in this approach when it is so damn unsuccessful?
The only other tactic I have seen them use recently is standing outside train stations holding Awakes and Watchtowers up and chatting amongst themselves, while everyone walks by, not paying a blind bit of attention to them. I don't know which one is worse, I mean, they may as well just leave the mags on a nearby park bench and piss off, it would be just as effective.
A few years ago, some in our congregation started "Beach Witnessing" where the witnesses would preach on the beaches, informally approaching people. They were allowed to dress casually (no tie that is - LOL)
Now, this actually worked really well, and they got alot more interesting talks on the beaches, as opposed from door to door. But then, after a couple of weeks, this stopped. No one knew why.
In my opinion door to door selling is the worst possible job anyone can have.
