at our cong several years back, there was a needs talk on not enough money being "donated" for books, mags, dvds, etc. They pointed out we are way low in our donations. afterward I asked that elder how can "donations" which are supposedly freely given be low. A donation is what it is a donation not a specific amount to pay for a particular item. He tried to tell me I didn't have the right attitude, I told him, you are putting a price on particular items and they are supposed to be "free" are they not. He then turned and walked away. Assholes, they always want their money.

Why don't JWs do much in the way of charity work?
by ilikecheese inso i argue with the boyfriend a lot about the fact that i think charitable work is every bit as important as preaching when it comes to serving god.
every church i've ever gone to has some sort of community outreach, if not several outreaches, that have little or nothing to do with preaching.
and i made the point that if these people know you're affiliated with a church, they'll think a little more kindly about christians, too, which would help in the whole witnessing arena.

CP scaming people with WTBTS BS is not donating eternal life to anyone, it's donating a life of slavery to a publishing company to your fellow humans.

I just "witnessed" officially for the first time!!!
by NoRegrets ini mean door to door (sort of), not informally to non-witness friends and family!.
so for a few weeks, i have suspected that my neighbor across the hall was being studied with by witnesses.
i wasn't sure but saw a couple of older women leaving with what looked like bibles, but never saw watchtower literature.

I too have been able to enlighten a neighbor, had a death in family, and she had come by and was wanting to know how me and my child were doing? Knowing we were/had been dubs, she wondered why she never seen any of them coming by to check up on us and to try and comfort us. Boy did i fill her in on just how unloving a bunch they really were, she mentioned thats she has been studying with two sisters but after talking to me and seeing how we had been treated she wasn't going to have anything to do with them. She ended her study with them on their next vist as she told me she had asked them if they were so loving and caring about each other why no one ever seemed to come by and visit us? Well she said they hemmed and hawwed and then couldn't give her an answer so she told them she wanted nothing to do with them anymore and to not come by her house and bother her any more. She told me this the following week after her visit with me. She was dumfounded over the treatment or rather lack of that we hadn't received. Truly they will know them by their fruits.

Really stupid comment from an elder (and he was completely serious!)
by freshstart inmy husband and this elder in our old congregation used to trade dvds and such, just letting each other borrow them.
they would always return them to each other in a timely manner, no big deal.
well in 2005 they had traded some and about a week after that, a terrible natural disaster hit our area and everyone was displaced and it was a few months before things got settled back down again.

Just saw an elderly JW man...
by zengalileo inhe was walking with such a slump, dragging his feet, carrying a jacket, magazines barely visible just hanging from his fingertips.
if body language has any validity to it, this man was deeply discouraged and depressed.
i remember that slump too.

The way I look at it, is that you are never too old to get out, at least have some kind of life left to enjoy or challenge. I am now free at last, and just slipped away, they didn't care about me or the wife and when ones spouse dies, they just cut you off socially and it is like you no longer exist except for a head count at the meetings. good ridance.

Was it the doctrine or the control that woke you up?
by Evidently Apostate ineven though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.
i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.
even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.

Several things, one the constant insistence that they and only they were right. 607, the change from Christ's coming in 1874 to 1914, the denial of the prophecy of 1975. The saying of the meetings are free, and then the the constant wanting of money. They, the elders, didn't really care about the rank and file witness. The constant drive to go out in the door to door fiasco. You could never do enough. just to name a few.

Who is Homeschooling - what works and does not?
by skeeter1 inmy in-laws really wished they had taken control and homeschooled their one granchild.
today, i witnessed a middle school bus stop bully and another group of teenaged girls smoking something illegal.
my 5th grader is headed to middle school next year.

My daughter is currently on home bound studies and is excelling. She had missed two weeks of school, was behind and within on week of home bound studies she not only caught up. but really likes it, the quiet, no interference from others talking and fooling around has really focused her on her school work. She is now appling for Texas Tech University Independent School District on-line studies. Now think how much better that will look to have a diploma from Texas Tech University Independent School District. She doesn't miss public school at all, and wants to stay in home bound if she can't get into TTUISD (but she will be accepted her grades are will above normal).
By enrolling in TTUISD she can study anywhere and really concentrate on her studies.

Is the Oct 30 WT study a Prelude to a Tithing towards the Soc.
by Quarterback init felt weird discussing this topic this week about this term, "share" of the levites.
.
some made comments that alluded to the financial assistance that we are currently doing towards sponsoring the bethels around the world.. i wouldn't be surprised that a new thought comes out soon about that ten percent rule.. .

they always want our money, i remember when first studying and they were telling us that the meetings were free and that no one ever asks for money, surprise, surprise when fully indoced found out that they always were asking for it only in terms that could be deceptive and denied when questioned. Like I had said in an earlier post they are no better than the Pass the loot ministries.

What percentage of assmbly experiences are total fabrication?
by NoRegrets inwhen i was in 4th grade, i ended up in a situation involving minor school politics.
they had developed a "student council" which did little more than sell pencils at lunch time for fundraisers.
anyway, i was appointed by the teacher and didn't think much of it as an 8-9 year old.

It's easy to fabricate or at least not tell an experience truthfully. elder smelder is given the experiences for the ca, so desperately seeking to find someone with a legitimate experience worth telling.
Finally out of desperation he talks to bro and sis idiotic and ask them in a pleading voice if they have anything anything at all that he can use as an expereince.
Bro and Sis Idotic finally think of something and tell the elder that when they were camping in northern california they were able to place 10 mags with a group of young men who were camping up there, and that they were real happy to have them and thanked Bro and Sis idiotic. So Bro and Sis idiotic were able to give a good witness and were sure that the mags would be put to good use and fill them with knowledge of the bible. The Bro and Sis were some what downhearted when they found out what the mags were being used for and why they were accepted. Telling the elder this he cautioned them to just tell the good parts leave out the whole truth.
Well the real truth of the matter was that, these young college students had run out of toilet paper, and being desperate for some they were even willing to talk with the dubs camped just down from them, and when the dubs offered the mags the college students were elated, now they would have something to wipe with. They thanked the Bro and Sis profusely, and then some of them promptly after the dubs had left started tearing pages apart and put them to use.
The mags were dually used in that they could read them while sitting on the can and then use them for what they really were nothing but mere asswipes, and that is the real truth of the matter.
see while not all experiences are full fabrication (as i'm sure a lot are) tell a little bit of truth with the big lie and convince yourself you are really telling the truth but don't forget to take your notes with you so you can check them so you don't forget.

what is unique is that an experience a nonwitness husband had many years ago. Witnesses were not allowed into Military housing, and yet there we no gates or entry points into the housing. The husband trying to help his wife (why why why)went to the base police inquiring why they weren't allowed, got the answer that the military housing authority wouldn't allow it, butttttt if you can get them to okay it and let us know we will be good with it. Well the husband spent many a time cajoling the housing authorty (bitch by the way) until finally she relented. He took a letter from them to give to the MPs and asked them to also call the officer in charge and let him know it will be alright for the dubs to go d-t-d there. Well eventually they were allowed. Now the unique part sitting at a CA with his wife the husband hears a brother up there (elder by the way) who takes credit for the whole thing. Stood up there an lied his ass off about it. My wife was incredulous, unfortunatelfy she was also self deluded about what she should do so she just kept quiet. The PO of the cong. finally came to the husband and apoligized saying it wouldn't have looked good for a nonwitness to go up there and relay that experience so elder smelder was chosen to do it. What a lying bunch of scum bags those people were, and it's unfortunate that most of the experiences are pure Bs or given to someone else to give.
