What disgusts me is when Witnesses, who claim to be no part of this world, do things like this which is a direct mimic of what they see on youtube. You can bet that the majority of flash mobs as well whoever did the first one, were worldly therefore, what we are seeing here are Witnesses who are being fashioned after this system of things - copying what they see the world do. The spineless jellyfish brothers are sitting around with their goofy grins allowing this to happen. Hypocrites. This is *exactly* what being fashioned after this system of things entails. I'm disgusted.

Lets list everything that has pagan origins!!
by song19 ini have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.
theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .
we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

The necktie has origins in war in Europe. Pretty much any holiday is pagan. Any invention that is made by a non-believer could be construed as pagan. The phones, computers, electricity, automobiles, powered boats, airplanes, and anything that is made by people of other religions is technically pagan. I never could figure out why it's okay to utilitize these "things of the world" but if you don't wear a necktie - you're considered unkempt or disrespectful. They don't wear neckties in African nations - they wear traditional garb and there we go again - putting traditions of men ahead of God. Where do you draw the line and who says just how much paganism is okay and what isn't?
So if it's your culture, is it okay? Who says what cultural things are okay and what are not? Who invented the culture? Why can't I invent my own culture and follow it instead of what some worldly heathen pagan invented?
I create my own culture and follow it. That's the only sure fire way to make sure to minimze pagan influence in your life, but I digress. I still use computers, phones, and cars.

Two pet peeves of mine
by Sour Grapes inthere are two things that just drive me crazy.
one is that the art work in the watchtower is treated like they are actual still photo's taken thousands of years ago.
your will hear comments about look at the smiles on their faces or the sadnees or happiness in their eyes, or notice the reaction of the crowd, etc.

Wedding question
by lostinthought incan a witness get in trouble for attending an inactive family members wedding?
just wondering because i am getting married this summer and my mom tried to blackmail me by saying she and other family members would attend but only if i returned to the meeting.
i told her i am not going back to the meetings.

You pretty much have to be willing to discount your family if you quit going to meetings. You now are going to spend the rest of your life with all kinds of weird behaviour from them trying to decide if they can attend this event, that event, should be seen with you, shouldn't be seen with you, and whole big long list involving whacky thought processes, biblical reasons why or why not this, why or why not that, justifications for seeing you, justifications for not, etc. Get used to it. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just love someone for who they are without irrational fears that being in proximity to them will put you on the execution list at Armageddon?
Funny thing though - I've seen this time and time again - all you gotta do is churn out a few kids and then the parents will come skulking around because they want to babysit and expose the young ones to the truth. Suddenly it's okay to be around you and your family whether you were baptized or not, whether you married a believer or not, and totally regardless if you knocked up your wife before or after marriage, during an alcohol fueled orgy, or even if she was knocked up by someone else. Suddenly grandkids makes it all ok.
I don't understand the thought process involved where it's okay to shun you and treat you like dirt, but then it's okay for them to come around if there are grandkids. Surely there is a scripture or a watchtower somewhere that explains this thought process in a convoluted manner.

Not to tickle the ears of the rank and file, but wouldn't it just be nice to have a complimentary talk that tells everyone their efforts are appreciated and keep hanging in there? It just leaves you feeling worthless, drained, robs you any shred of self-esteem you might have had, and is a huge clash to what reality really is. It leaves a trail of pent up sexual frustration for starters that pits Biblical teaching against your sexual desires which you had nothing to do with nor did you ask for! Paul summed it up nicely when he simply said it's better to marry than burn with passion. Even though that's kind of obvious, Paul never said to marry ministerial servants or elders - just to marry only in the Lord. Am I catching wind that they think you're nothing if you're not an elder or ministerial servant? Something is really off here...

Oh so you must be married and serving to survive? If all the men are servants, who will they get to boss around? The women and children? I never read where the million or so Israelites fleeing Egypt were all servants and they survived. Maybe they were all servants?
We all know it's your heart condition and not a title nor status that reveals what you are...

So far it sounds like everything we've heard before. I'm ugly enough as it is so no worries on wearing tight-fitting clothing. I've been to Bethel and I don't have kids. Anything else?

>If your kids fall out of the truth it's the parent's fault?
What kind of spritually encouraging talk is this? Being an adult is being responsible for yourself. Are they blaming the parents for having kids? I don't follow the thought process here - what would make this any kind of an earth-shattering announcement?
