Did you AWAKEN from the JWs by yourself?

i was thinking about how so many posters here on jwn are frustrated and frantic to help their loved ones get away from the brainwashing of jws, and how much advice is given about how to help family members and loved ones.

i considered my own leaving and that it was internal turmoil based on the teachings getting weirder and child abuse issues, to name just a few, and it made me wonder:.

did you self-awaken or were you assisted by the gentle proddings of a friend or family member?

I WAS SO MISERABLE, REALLY, DOWN IN THE DUMPS. THIS SONG KEPT GOING THROUGH MY HEAD "IF PARADISE WAS HALF AS NICE AS THE HEAVEN THAT YOU TAKE ME TO, WHO NEEDS PARADISE I'D RATHER HAVE YOU"

I LEFT STILL THINKING I BELIVED, BUT JUST COULD'NT LIVE UP TO THE EXPECTTIONS PLACED ON ME.

THATS ALMOST 25YEARS AGO, AND IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE.

THE SCARIEST THING FOR ME LOOKING BACK IS THAT I REALLY DIDN'T BELEVIE I WAS BRAINWASHED

IF YOU ARE A WITNESS YOU HAVE DOUBTS AND YOUR UNHAPPY, HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE, ITS YOURS, IT MAYBE ALL YOU HAVE

A FEW SHORT YEARS, YOU SHOULD AT LEAST LIVE IT YOUR WAY.....MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

Your favourite dog breed ...?

in an earlier thread, i mentioned that i wasn't a particularly doggy person but that my parents got a husky last year that i've come to regard as a kind of brother.. huskies superficially resemble wolves and for me it's been fun to compare and contrast husky and wolf behaviour.

huskies howl but rarely bark, and seem to have a strong prey drive and a strong pack instinct - a nod to their wild cousins.

this is why i love huskies, i think.. do you have a favourite dog breed and why?.

Do You Think It Is Wrong To Stereotype?

i know we are supposed to be politically correct but i don't always feel that this is warranted.. i do think that certain things might be generally true and could be viewed as stereotyping.

for example, if i see a young person driving a car very slowly, i might think that they are texting and driving (or else are asian).

now that might not have sounded proper, but i do think it's generally true, from my experience driving in the city.. if i see a "butchy" looking woman, i generally assume the woman is gay.

some of my favorite people are~.

after leaving the religion, my lesbian couple friends were the most compassionate people, and i will always love them!.

i am heterosexual, but find gays to be absolutely fabulous!!.

im sure your sincere, but its very amusing how you label them "gays"

is that all they are, not human beings men, women, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters

would you introduce yourself as "hetrosexual"

as i say i'm sure your sincere, but they are normal.

my first boss was gay, top bloke.

i think that experince as always led me to have no problem with anyones sexuality, and even when i was a jw i could never take there homophobic rants seriously.

freydo go and have a sit down, all that hate must be heavy to carry.

it does no good to pin a countrys problems on a section of people.

we wrote letters of resignation to our respective churches and hit the highways and byways, hawking the wt message to stunned families and friends.. 1975 came and went - nothing.

i also heard the 75 tale of some brothers getting a head of themselves being to keen to see the end of this system of things......

i imagine thats how they explain the 1914 tale......

jude the obscure (thomas hardy) a book well before its time, really makes you think about marriage, religion, conventions.

empire of the sun ( part fiction, part fact, a british lads experience in japanese captivity, a book every kid should read.)

tom sawyer, treasure island, lord of the flies (wonderful childhood books)

a christmas carol ( a book of the human spirit)

what toys did you all ways want but couldnt have because you were a jw!

i was lucky not to be born into the jw's, so i had pretty much every toy i wanted .... actionman (g.i joe) with all the guns, tanks wonderful 2nd world war uniforms, toy soldiers cavalry, indians, cowboys, knights,castles and forts.. six million dollar man, lone ranger and tonto, toy cars matchbox captin scarlett, thunder birds, loads of guns to run around playing war.. great days.

(of course my sisters had dolls and prams, barbies cindys, play make up).

i know having spoken to jws born into it certain toys were of limits for some kids.. a good friend told me how he loved action man and played with them constantly, until one day he came home and saw them all by the door in a. card board box.. when he asked his mum what she was doing.. she told him "do you really think jehovah wants you to play war, you can keep one of them but he cant have any guns and fight people".

once he'd grown up and left the witness he started collecting toys and as a massive collection of actionman and all the other toys his mum never appproved of.
