Yes...they increase the speed with which women find you, meet and get to know you, and then crush your souls.
i've got a fast car...(and i won't crush your soul) (and to answer the question, no. too scary)

High rates of depression in Org.
by chuckyy ini noticed after being a jw for a while that many members of my congregation were having to take antedepressants.
(i counted at least 30 out of 100).
after a few years i too began to have bouts of depression and problems with anxiety.

Once you learn how to assert yourself in life, exercising your built-in self-autonomy, you will find yourself taking control of your life in ways that you never knew or thought possible before.
You cannot control them, but you CAN control your reaction to them. Do not let them be the judge of you. You decide over your own life. This is part of Self-Responsibility.
Until we learn to love ourselves, we cannot effectively love others.
Build your own self-esteem. "Inch by inch, it's a cinch. Yard by yard it's hard." A day at a time. A day at a time. A day at a time. Strive towards improvement and perfection, even though no-one is perfect.
i always say "brick by brick", but it's the same idea. what we say when we talk to ourselves is crucial...i've never felt "alone" in being autonomous. i mean, we're all alone anyway in this Earthly journey, no matter how many people surround us. thanks for expressing yourself so eloquently...(i feel funny saying "welcome", 'cause this isn't my board, but in this case, i just have to: Welcome!

Girl Scout Cookies are the Work of the Devil
by Xena in.
seriously, they masquerade as angels of light, with their dark chocolate minty taste (my personal satan being the thin mint ones) but in reality they are little fiendish wafers of fat and carbohydrates waiting to attack the weak defences of your tastebuds so they can defile the temple of your flesh.
i think i need an exorcism....or another box of cookies *sigh*

Killing One's Ego...
by FMZ inmany of the ancient mystics and their belief systems supported the idea that to truly live life, and draw close to god, each one of us has to remove his "ego".
even jesus hinted at it.. i think today, "ego" is very often taken as meaning pride.
this is but one facet of one's ego.

I think my cat is a crack addict! :S
by Elsewhere inok, it isn't really crack... but it might as well be!.
i have to be very careful not to leave any plastic bags anywhere around my apartment or my cat will try to eat it.
i'm always paying close attention to the plastic bags that i bring home from the store... they all go straight in to a covered trash can so that the cat can't get them.. now, for the last two days he has been puking all over the place and i can't find any plastic that he might have been eating off of... but i am finding the plastic in his puke... so i know thats what is going one.

the thought of taking them has always scared me, because my brother did that and got messed up pretty bad... but i do believe wholeheartedly that facing fears is a good thing, 'cause i have done that many times in my life. if the fears are magnified, then it stands to reason the bliss would be also - intensified to the point of unimaginable joy. sometimes i lay down on the grass and watch clouds roll in, and wish i could actually be on one, floating there... i imagine that's what this whole experience would be like. "and perhaps beyond, why not"? good thought...

someone gave me these two books for christmas, by Carlos Castaneda... one of them was "Journey to Ixtlan", which talks about "self-importance".. i haven't read a lot yet, but part of it says this:
Self-importance is another thing that must be dropped, just like personal history. The world around us is very mysterious. It doesn't yield its secrets easily. Now we are concerned with losing self-importance. As long as you feel that you are the most important thing in the world you cannot really appreciate the world around you. You are like a horse with blinders, all you see is yourself apart from everything else.
To help you lose self-importance talk to little plants. It doesn't matter what you say to a plant, what's important is the feeling of liking it, and treating it as an equal.i think it's saying when we surrender our ego, we free ourselves from constant disappointment and anguish. apparently it's a difficult lesson to learn. is this what you're talking about? if not, never mind...

You can't play lotto, but you can accept a lottery ticket.
by JH in.
can someone explain to me why a witness can't go and buy a lottery ticket for himself, but can keep a ticket they find on the ground or keep a ticket they receive as a gift from a worldly person.. that's the explaination the witnesses gave me when i joined many years ago.. if it's a sin to play lotto, why can they accept a ticket as a gift or keep one they could find?.
