i am not, nor ever have been, a witness.
i have a very dear friend who is a former (actually still is technically, as i understand it) witness and who is trying to adjust to existence in the "world.
" i am here on this site to better understand the hell she has been subjected to all her life and the hell she is and will still go through on her journey.
THE BORG
when i shared my experience and opionions about jehovah's witnesses to my friends or family, i
referred to them as 'the borg', and was surprised to find upon coming here that many ex-witnesses
use the same terminology. they don't want you to think on your own. thinking is bad. you live to
protect jehovah's 'good name' and the watchtower society. you do not question. you are either one
of the collective, or you are cast out. plain and simple...
hi,i just came back from visiting some relatives in the south of france yesturday.
it seams though that my wife has got us into a bit of an akward situation.she hasn't told any of her family in france that i no longer believe in the religion of jehovahs witnesses.in fact they all think i am a ministerial servent in the congregation at home.
i don't speak much french, and didn't know untill recently that she hadn't told anyone we don't go to meetings etc.shes afraid her mum and grandmother will have a big shock if they find out , or at worse she will disinherited from quite a substantial amount of money.
i guess it just depends on how badly you want the money. personally, it would sicken me to say a prayer, especially out loud, to their so-called god... they could live for a long long time, and you may have to compromise your principles again. ew.
besides, they'll find out. they always do. my niece (24 & jw) was secretly talking to this young man (also jw) without her parents' knowledge. he lives in another state and she told them to expect some long-dostance charges. her dad asked for the area code, then called an overseer in wisconsin and got the scoop on him, saying he was 'spiritually weak' and then they told her not to talk to him anymore. freaky, huh.

i always hear at least two stories a year about someone i know who's left the "truth" goes back despite the trauma surrounding their departure.
this morning i heard yet another story.
a few years ago and elder's wife in my former uk congregation abruptly left the organization, surprising everyone and getting a big df in the process.
they go back because it's the only way they can be with their loved ones.
they go back because they have no support system in the outside world.
they go back because no one taught them how to survive on their own, or to believe in themselves.
they go back becuase it's easier than the alternative...

in another thread i posted the following thought, but i wanted to post this for everyone to see and give their input.. the argument that 'truth' never changes holds no water.
according to random house webster's dictionary, 'truth' is defined as follows,"conformity with fact or reality".. the word 'conform' is defined as,"to bring into agreement".. if 'truth' never changes, then how can something taught in science that is considered to be 'exact', later be corrected by 'conforming with fact or reality so as to bring into agreement'?

science is an open system that is constantly under scrutiny, as opposed to religion which is a closed system, and those who criticize it are usually cast out. the scientific method invites and only succeeds through critical scrutinization. that's why things that seem correct at one time are found to be flawed as we add to our body of knowledge.
one of the newtonian laws states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. such as a rocket taking off. or a bseball being hit. or a bullet coming out of a gun. - we consder it fact because we can measure it throughout the universe. it's not magic. and not something only a few can see. as opposed to elders ;who through edict give their version of 'the truth'. since they're the only ones who know the source, it's not transparent, therefore it is suspect...

why is it harsh standing up for who you are? don't feel that way. you have every right to ask her to accept you. why should you respect her views/choices when she doesn't return the favour?
you are her son. you don't have to apologize for being yourself. it's the same thing as apologizing for being.
she is brainwashed, that's all there is to it. i know it's hard to understand and accept her anger at you, and the things she said to you. it hurts enormously. but you can only move on and try to forget about it and immerse yourself in things that make you happy. it's hard, i know.i know, i know, i know...

does anyone remember how the society joined the "disco sucks" movement of the late 70's?
i remember reading in the mags about how disco was created by homos and that it has an "immoral beat" (whatever that means!
) it was also mentioned not to go see "saturday night fever" because someone gets a blowjob in the movie.. in our congregation, we had a special meeting about disco because people would request disco songs at our once-a-month jw skating party at the local skating rink.
I had to clean , work, feed horses, anything he could think of to make me not have time to get my chores done in time. Like Cinderella!!!!!!!

really? i just remembered her name. it was la dene. do you remember her? she had dark blonde hair and she always wore it in a tacky swirly bun on the back of her head. she always wore weird things like sleevless dresses with loud flower prints on them and pearls. (shudder)
