  If God did have a new system..would you want to be there?

  i was a witness for over forty years and for most of that time the "new world" "paradise" was not a place i ever wanted to live in.. there are many aspects of life in the 21st century that are great and i wouldn't want to give up.

  tv, internet, blues/jazz clubs etc etc.. i may be shallow.

  but there were other better reasons millions of people would have gone, wiped out by god: this never sat easy with me.. i told my elder father that i wouldn't want to live five minutes in god's new system, knowing that people i loved, had been killed by god because they didn't love him in the way he wanted.. just telling my father that has made me really wake up to how i really feel about my ex religion.. does a paradise earth as jw's depict appeal to you?

  God no.

  i read some of their blogs occasionally, and they talk about swimming with dolphins and having long walks in the rain with noah and long conversations with moses and i'm like ok that would get boring after about a week...i mean, i'd love to be able to visit the himalayas and ascend mt. everest and not need oxygen canisters but then that region wouldn't have the same allure as it does now what with all the tibetan monks being gone and the monasteries torn down and not even a single mandala (sand painting) to admire. just acres and acres of smiling witnesses singing Jehovah's praises day after day after day... (oog) . I wonder what john lennon would think if he woke up in a place like that.

  What's your worst job experiences?

  i don't have too many crumby experiences, but i was just sitting here thinking about when i worked as a hostess at a local restaurant.

  it was kind of a family-owned restaurant, and whoever had worked there for a long time still worked there no matter how @$@#^ their attitudes were.

  i tried and tried to just be polite and have conversations with them but they didn't like me and were antagonizing me to the point of being in tears from the start.. there was one particular waitress who the men would walk in and specifically ask for..like walk up and whisper in your ear..."put me at a----'s table, please"..it wasn't too big of a mystery why all the men asked for her.. and one particular waitress made a habit of throwing the menu's at me when she wanted them put back after being used...like walk by me and throw them over her shoulder and i would be trying to catch them all.. there was also alot of he-said-she-said bullcrap.

  when i was a bank teller and got robbed the first day of flying solo. no, that was kind of exciting, actually. i'd say the worst was working at a k-mart in this little restaurant at the back of the store. it was just me and my boss, Terry, an epileptic. one afternoon Terry had a seizure and his mother called and informed me that i would have to run the restaurant all by myself, which included making dozens of submarine sanwiches and blowing up ballons and filling them with prize numbers so people could win a free submarine sandwich, set up the steam tables and cold things like molded jellos which were icky looking, bus the tables, casheir a steady stream of customers, then clean it all up before i could go home, including washing all the dishes. this one guy wanted to give me a $20 tip but, being newly-released from the Witnesses, i did the honest thing and refused the tip 'cause employees weren't allowed to accept tips. Terry was a nice guy, though, and he gave me a raise after that. Terry encouraged me to go to college, even though i had no education he said so what they'll take ya. so i went and the rest is history... all you really need is one person to believe in you...

  PLEASANTVILLE: what it means to Betty

  i was watching pleasantville (tobey maguire, reese witherspoon) on tv last night.

  as i watched i started thinking that although the movie isnt about religion, the way the characters and storyline evolved, reminded me of how it felt like to be in the "truth" and then to be in reality.. the movie is how two teens get stuck in a 50's tv show similar to the perfection of "leave it to beaver" everything is perfect in this town, but everyones in black and white becuase they are not in reality.

  when the kids arrive they start to the show the people in the town art, books, love, sex and everything starts to turn into color.

  How many here grew up JW but had worldly friends?

  my best friend was worldly all through elementary to high school.

  we are still good friends.

  i wonder if that led to our being a tad bit more open minded and aided in our exit???

  never.

  no relationships with any worldly people of any kind.

  if we were forced to come into contact with worldly people at oh, say, restaurants or theaters, in and out as quickly as possible while saying as little as possible to them was the way to go. it was as if you could get infected with some vile disease just by coming into contact with them. one time we went to LA, and had breakfast at this little diner on the strip by our hotel. i remember this tall blonde man with really long hair walked in and sat at the breakfast bar. he looked like a biker. he looked over at us and kept staring. i think because we were right in front of this big picture window and he was looking at the sun and traffic, who knows? but my sister who was the self-imposed boss of the family said we had to leave immediately because she didn't like that guy looking at us. she paid the hostess for our breakfasts even though they hadn't served them to us yet. that is so f***ed-up...

  in the second study article (pages 15-20), the gb acknowledge the fact that people aren't paying attention to their waffle.. .

  there are some surprising statements in the last paragraph, but first, let's highlight some points in this article.... .

  2.Do you appreciate these timely reminders?
  3.Do you use them in setting priorities in life?
  4.Why not ask yourself: "Do I have clear spiritual vision that enables me to see the Son of God ruling in heaven?
  5.Do I see him poised to execute divine judgement against Babylon the Great and the rest of Satan's system?"
  6.Some now associated with Jehovah's people have allowed their spiritual vision to grow dim.
  7.Could it be that they lack patience or endurance, as did some of Jesus' early disciples?
  8.Perhaps some have found certain information published by the "faithful and discreet slave" hard to grasp

  hmm..let's be vague, demeaning, judgemental, shaming and threatening. that oughta do it...
