Organized religion seems unnecessary to me now, although I'm not against churches who do good works, charity, education and such. Those seem to need organization to work.

What do you think - are most ex-JWs atheist, agnostic, or still involved in some form of religion?
by lifelong humanist ini dad 6 years ago because, after a rational search came to the conclusion that there probably is no god.
shortly afterwards, i concluded that (for me) there is no god, which made me feel that i really was a natural-born humanist - a position that i'm entirely comfortable with.
i know that many former jws hold a similar, atheistic viewpoint.

LOL I remember one pioneer brother (many years ago when I was still living with my folks) having a cow because he mentioned how much he loved Kevin Costner's movie, "Dances with Wolves" after a book study at his house and I said, "It's an R rated movie, I'm shocked you've seen it!" just to give him a hard time. He couldn't believe it was rated R until I showed him on the VCR's cover that it was, then he got very upset and threw it in the trash!

How presumptuous and rude! Let em decide what they watch in their own homes. What gives them the right to censor entertainment for others?
I found myself laughing at our former congregation's wholesale condemnation of the Harry Potter movies because they have wizards in them, but nearly all the elders lined up eagerly to watch the Lord of the Rings movies when they came out, even though they're also about wizards and magical beings, and even have a battle between a wizard and a demon in them.
We were also criticized for playing World of Warcraft, because it has magic, demons and wizards in it. Never mind that it's ALL make believe. LOL Seriously, do they really believe that people wave wands and staffs and utter nonsense words and supernatural things happen?

It's so much easier around non-Witnesses, isn't it? You don't have to guard everything you say for fear of triggering a spew of Witnessing or offending them by mentioning some normal thing everyone else does but they don't.

Nearly every generation since we've had written history has had incidents of war, plague, natural disasters, crime and general unrest in it that make people feel as though it's the end of civilization as we know it.

Rules (of the dumbass meanlingless variety) vary so much among different groups of Witnesses. Moving around the country some, I was always surprised and sometimes irritated to be informed I was "doing it wrong" when I violated some silly little regional JW rule.
One congo we were in had a rule about identifying gift givers at baby and bridal showers, it was a no no. But, others I've belonged to had no such stipulations.

Do you know your personality type?
by bluecanary inwhat is your myers-briggs personality type?
if you're unfamiliar with it, you can take a test here: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp.
be warned that the test can be wildly inaccurate.

I always come up ENFP. Idealists (NFs) and Rationalists (NTs) are terrible at embracing legalistic or highly structured organized religion. Just interesting that so far, we seem to have Idealists and Rationalists popping up. Idealists tend to be ecumenical/pagan/New Age and Rationalists tend to be drawn to agnosticism and intellectual faiths.
Experiencers don't do religion well either unless it's in conjuction with work or play activities (they might run a youth program or an athletic team associated with a church), only Traditionalists are attracted much to the sort of legalistic and works oriented religion that the JWs promote and even then...not that many.
I've always found JWs heavy on the ESTJ/ISTJ type, who tend to be very conscientious, duty oriented individuals with a strong need for outer directed rules and organization. Also, the ISFJ type, who is very self sacrificing and conscientious and hates confrontation or conflict, especially among women.
"N" people are big picture thinkers, generalists, and it's very hard to get them to subscribe to a one size fits all ideology or theory about anything.

Texas Public Schools Required to Teach Bible This Year
by leavingwt intexas public schools required to teach bible this year.
the school year is almost here, and if literature of the bible is not already offered in your child's school, it will be this fall.. books are a common sight in classrooms around the nation, but the bible is one book that is not.
come this fall, a texas law says all public schools must offer information relating to the bible in their curriculum.

So what's wrong with being a "Cult"?
by The Berean ini looked up the definition of "cult" on dictionary.com.
definition #1 read as follows "a particular system of religious worship, esp.with reference to its rites and cerimonies.
" that soundeed vanilla enough .... scrolling down to #2, i saw "an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal or thing, esp.

Some cults are more harmful than others, true, but hey, if you need some egotistical control freak to do your thinking for you, be my guest.

Have You Had A "Superconscious" Experience?
by metatron inaccording to some, we humans have a conscious mind, a subconscious mind and , perhaps, a superconscious mind.
it might be otherwise called the "higher self".. i read up on this subject years ago because i occasionally have experiences that suggest that some vastly more clever intelligence helps me (whenever it feels so inclined!)..
i can remember getting into trouble at work and , out of nowhere, coming up with some split second insight that saved me - so much so, that i had to ask myself, "where did that come from?".

Most of my life I've been told by people who claim to be psychic that I'm psychic or empathic too. Naturally, when I was an active Witness this scared the piss out of me, thinking I was "demonized".
I've always had intuitive flashes, premonitions, and accurate "readings" of others all my life. I think it's an innate ability that we all have to some extent, but some can utilize it more than others.
