  That's the important sentence. Something like ditching the two-witness rule in cases where it is a criminal offense could be handled by Letter to the BoE. Most of the other policy and doctrinal points could also be handled by letter, Watchtower article, or DC talk. If that quote is true, there could be an about-face about to happen on something core. There are hundreds or laws and customs, but there are only about a dozen core beliefs and policies that would really raise a question mark in long-time believers eyes.

  my math background is embarassing.

  my public education was very sad.

  although i received good grades in college track math courses, i never understood the underlying ideas or motivations.

  Quendi it was my friend who really piqued my interest in FLT. After I graduated college, I took a podunk job just to get to the big city. Met a coworker Engineer and we quickly became friends. Turns out he was an Ex-JW who got DF'd and left because his newborn needed a blood transfusion. How strange is that?

  Anyway, I'm astounded at the classical mathematical works he has read since then, and he has helped educate me a lot on the history of mathematics. We both switched jobs but get together every few weeks and work on mathematics and physics problems ranging from FLT to reconciling the Theory of Relativiy with Quantum Physics, to Green Energy.

  He encouraged me to look at FLT, so I did and came up with that solution domain, and we have done some interesting things. I'm hesitant to say more simply because I have yet to find anyone else who has tried our path to a solution. Like I said, the odds are low simply because of how many people have tried to solve this before, but it's fun to try, and we've noticed/learned some very interesting things that may provide a path towards a solution without resorting to "new math".

  Several experts have expressed the opinion that the way he proved it, however, was not what Fermat had in mind - so, in that sense, the solution is still lost.

  I think very few believe fermat ever proved it.

  I have been working the last couple of months with a friend on Fermat's Last Theorem in our spare time, and we think a solution with elementary arithmetic operations might indeed exist. And we've found an interesting way to reframe what the equation is fundamentally describing using the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic. Just by normalizing the equation and graphing it, it is apparent an integer solution is unlikely for n>2. If you graph the normalized equation, n=1 is linear, n=2 is the unit circle, and as n increases the graph quickly conveges towards a square. I've developed a spreadsheet that given a value for C and a value for n, I can tell you the finite domain where an integer solution would exist. We are now looking for ways to eliminate that finite domain.

  That said, this is the most scrutinized mathematics problem of the last several hundred years, so the likelyhood we'll catch something that others did not is low. But it's still fun to try.

  This is an argument for those that don't understand the concept of war. The idea of the WT fading off into the sunset and everyone living happily ever after is a pipe dream. If you want to break the cycle, innocent people will be hurt or wrongly accused. Some who have spent their entire lives in ignorance will spend their last breaths knowing their lives were in vain. Others may be unable to handle the truth and commit suicide.

  There is always a price to be paid.

  I'm siding with Bohm on this one.

  The posted article is light on science, but since it mentions transmutation (i.e. alchemy) in the absence of tremendous heat and pressure (i.e. fusion), I'll take a guess that the mechanism is quantum tunneling.

  I'll grant that I believe such a thing might be possible in a lab, and quantum tunneling has a lot of applicable uses in electronics and other industries, but I find a hard time believing it can be net-energy positive. Even if it is, I think the efficiency would be insanely small compared with other energy sources, meaning economy of scale would make miniaturization almost impossible. Perhaps these are the engineering difficulties?

  Unfortunately doing what is right, and doing what is necessary are not always the same thing. Groups like Anonymous may not always be doing what is right, but they very well may be doing what is necessary.

  I messed myself up...

  the past few weeks have been hectic.. but i went through an experience that has messed me up since.. i met up with an old friend one day who i know went apostate.

  it was a really bad day for me, which was really bad for me since i've been taking ttatt as a speed bump but still moving along in life with an ok adjustment.

  he since brought a really nice house, cars, new job, everything he always wanted without feeling guilt.

  There is an interesting concept I first remember understanding when studying Line Integrals. It's independence of path. It's used elsewhere in math, but that's where I first remember it. Expanding the concept, if the Universe begin with some arbitrary properties (or no properties), and someday returns to that same base state of properties (or no properties), just about anything can happen in between without violating the known laws of the Universe (like the conservation laws or the laws of thermodynamics). In other words, in the end, it is all zero sum.

  For those of you who do not believe in corporal punishment...

  that is, for those of you who actually think that hitting children is wrong, what types of discipline do you find more effective?

  i'm not a parent but when dealing with kids, i've seen that time-outs tend to make kids feel isolated and can really hurt them.

  if they're near others and are checked up on frequently, it seems ok. but when they're completely ignored, that is just bad.
