I recently ordered a copy of Studies in the Scriptures all 6 volumes that Russell produced in one big book. It is pretty cool. I think it is interesting that JWs have started to realize how messed up Rutherford was and rejecting things he came up with (Superior Authorities, Bodies of elders, Generation) I hope more of Rurtherford's nonsense gets changed.

Oompa - good point they "knew" Armageddon was coming in 1914 and this system would end. - I stand corrected.
I think it was in the Talk "Jehovah, God of Times and Seasons" but I'm not sure (I wasn't taking notes.) I do know it was Friday Morning.

Even my wife was confused by the talk that claimed Matt 24 & 25 was already fulfilled in the selection of the FDS, but immediately quoted verses from those chapters to encourage us to stay on the watch, and "if the householder knew when the theif was coming he would be ready". But they did know he was coming in 1914 - Right? So they were ready - Rright? SO what are we on the watch for? All the prophecies that talk about staying on the watch have already been fulfilled. I wish it made some sense so I could refute it - but it is so silly there is arguement needed.

I agree with Jehovah's Witnesses!
by UnDisfellowshipped ini agree with jehovah's witnesses!.
(i bet reniaa will be shocked to see this thread!).
to jehovah's witnesses: i commend your zeal for god, your desire for accurate knowledge and truth of the bible, your goals of drawing close to jehovah, and following and obeying christ's teachings, and your time spent studying the bible.

Deputy Dog - I don't think undisfellowshipped disagrees with you. Here are points from the original post.
24:) Christians are saved only by God and Christ's Undeserved Kindness through faith in the Ransom, not by any good works or acts of faith. (Watchtower publications have changed on this teaching over the years. I am going with the very latest publications from the last year)
30:) Christians should live by God's moral standards -- no fornication, adultery, murder, stealing, lying, idolatry, or even lusting and hating others.
Do you actually disagree with these? (Of course Undeserved Kindness = Grace).

Where did these unoffical beliefs/standards come from?
by highdose ini've been doing some reasoning about all the jw teachings i've been taught as i grew up.
one of them was the belief that if you were baptised young that it would be a protection for you.
i questioned this at the time as i thought that instead it would make you prey to opposition from satan at a young age.

I don't know where it came from. I went to the Convention yesterday and saw the baptism. An interesting thing - Half the ones baptized were 9-13 yrs old the other half were 50-60+ yrs. Not a single "young adult" or even "pre-middle age adult". I think they realize that if you don't get baptized at 16 or earlier you probably won't get baptized at all. They need to push it earlier and earlier. It hasn't done any good still losing 2/3 of those born as witnesses.

Maybe that's why it takes 40 years of preaching for the avg. JW to bring in 1 new member? Really seeing the urgency in that kind of work.

Do You Consider yourself an Atheist / Agnostic / or Christian? Reasons ?
by flipper inafter having been raised in the jehovah's witnesses for 44 years ( getting out 6 years ago ) i have now come to peace with my view of what i personally feel about the existence of god , or no god, or whatever is flying around up there in outer space.
i am basically agnostic for sure / perhaps leaning atheist and i've come to that decision based on the years and years of unfulfilled false promises of being in a mind control cult ( jehovah's witnesses ) claiming to represent an alleged " god " or " jehovah " saying there would be a paradise, and armageddon to destroy 99% of the earths population.
also- i enjoy helping others without thought of being rewarded for it.

I think he was a carpenter 2,000 yrs ago that said "Why can't be nice to each other?" Great Idea for a religion if you ask me. But not helping people beat booze - He's been dead for 2,000 years.

To me (admittedly a cynic of Paul) this looks like the classic James vs. Paul debate. Grace of God comes from fath in Christ nothing to do with works. However James clearly shows that "faith WITHOUT works is dead". Which is it? The Chicken or the Egg? I think undisfellowshipped's point is clear - If you have true faith you will have Christian works. If your life violates Jesus' moral teachings then your faith is not "true" faith. If you're not obedient to the Christ in your actions then you give the lie to your claim of Faith. JWs teach a few things that are correct so do Catholics, so do Baptists, so do Menonnites, so do Christadelphians, so do Methodists, so do Episcopalians, so do ..... etc... ect... etc.....

If you don't think the end is coming your time you will give up ........
Keep your sense of urgency ..........
The end is "near" it is coming "soon". (Whatever that means).........
The prophecies of FDS, Discreet Virgins, Talents, (Matt 24 & 25) have been fulfilled. .........
You need to be in expectation and keep on the watch because the fulfillment of Matt 24 & 25 is still future ........
Absolutely the most contradictory presentation of material I have ever heard. Not going to Sun. (don't think I can handle the Revelation bull) .....
Only went to be there for my wife didn't want her to drive and go by herself, but she doesn't want my help tomorrow. Fair enough - I'll sleep in. ...
QUESTION - If Jesus started reigning in 1914 does that mean there is only 900 years left of the Messianic Kingdom? I thought he was only going to rule for 1,000 years? funney ney?
