i have a question, primarily for trinitarians, but anyone's more than welcome to comment.

what scriptural basis is there for believing in the trinity?

i can understand some having the view that jesus/jehovah both can be worshipped, and the view that jesus should be, but where in the bible is the holy spirit worshipped?

Quiet - OK. I agree with that quote. No one has seen God. Jesus (a different and seperate personality - like any son) came to earth to provide this manifestatioon of god. His Love, Compassion, Power, will, and concern for our future.

Sounds like you understood just fine what I meant. Nothing "mysterious" no my son is not the same personality. I believe Jesus "the Son" and Yaweh "the Father = God" are equal in power and abilities. They are seperate persons with different positions. You can be the same Nature without being the same "Person". Obviously God resurrected Jesus, God exalted Jesus to his position, but his position was one to be prayed to and worshipped. I think people miss the role of the "Father" in the relationship. As a father I want my son to learn and grow and have accomplishments of his own. I think The Father feels the same way.

Debunking their reasoning is super simple. 2 lines of thought.

They accept 539 BC as the Babylonian destruction because of the secular evidence, They reject the EXACT SAME evidence in denying 587BCE.

Also do a search of 70 years in the bible. There are several different scriptures that mention the 70 years prophecy. They all say something different about the 70 years. There are 2 that indicate some "destruction" of Jerusalem the others all refer to Babylon "ruling" over these kings (609 - 539) or the destruction and rebuilding of the temple (587 - 516). It is not hard to show the bible does not insist on their "607 BCE" theories.

HELP! Good Friend just told she is being disfellowshipped!!

hey... a good friend of mine was visited by 2 elders this evening..and after being treated like something you wouldn't want on your shoe...told her that her parents can no longer have anything to do with her 9 year old boy.

he is not baptized.. her dad is an elder and mum a long standing publisher...can they really insist that the grandparents ignore the child??

they babysit for him when she's at work...she would have to leave her job, and she lives in their house too..although they live elsewhere...her dad is researching this as he is obviously curious as to whether this is scriptural.

If your parents are still "in". They could write to the CO. I've seen CO's come in and tell elders "get in line". They don't want lawsuits or other problems from rogue elders.

how long is a generation?in general we think of a generation being about 25 years - from the birth of a parent to the birth of a child.

In the bible a generation is 40 years. If you look at Jesus' Geneology to the "generations" involved it fits perfectly into the 40 year mold. Jesus said "Generation" with Jerusalem's destruction and 34 years later - done.

I have not talked to any JW that feels their Generation explanation is a real thing. So sad.....

For me it is simple. One scripture could be wrong (either the writer or the translation) however the overall relationship is ALWAYS Father and Son. Jesus is the son of God. God is THE Father. It was given to us to understand - One gives life to the other and is superior.

Unlike JWs and others I do believe Jesus is everything his Father is. The only differences are eternity and position. That is what Father/Son means. My son is 4" taller than me and could woop my ass, but I am still the father. He is everything I am. He has my power, my intelligence, my abilities, but not my age or position. I gave life to him, but he is only inferior in position not in quality or substance. That is where confusion comes in with Jesus. He is God in ability, but not position.

For either side of the debate I would love to hear a scripture that refutes this understanding..............

Thanks quiet one. I am formed in God's image I am no worm. I believe God and Jesus explained themselves perfectly well. In a way a "child" can understand fully. Anything "over our heads" is obviously not vital for salvation.

I've posted less than half as much as you Still Thinking, so I still like these threads too. It is so basic to "Christians", but so "I don't care" to Atheist/Humanists. For me I don't have "Faith" in anything. I am a person learning everyday and I hope to continue learning everyday until I acheive Nirvana......or Heaven......or Paradise Earth....... any where but here!

Even worse now. They changed all the songs to fit "new light". I used to at least like singing now it is mostly crap. Give me the old pink song book anyday.

if you beleive the bible account in genesis when cain killed abel, why didn`t jehovah/yahweh kill cain right then and their.?

" an eye for an eye"!!.

apparently cain had no remorse for killing his brother and was only concerned that someone would come after him to avenge abels death,so what does the almighty god jehovah do ?

The God of the bible has always been more practical than moral. Multiple wives, prostitution, brother-in-law marriage (creepy), allows for HIS purpose. He needed Cain for genetic diversity and couldn't cut it short, I guess....
