Its my impression that most here are discouraged by quite tangible things, ie. doctrines and practices that they do not understand and believe are contrary to the bibles word, or they are here because they have lost faith in IF there is a God. If you want, it would be really cool if you would stick around and give us your point of view... this place, and those looking, could very much need a jehovahs witness to give his point of view.
Myself? im here because my girlfriend is a jw and thats why im investigating the teachings of jehovahs witnesses.

We mutually ended my "studies" today
by Janey214 injust wanted to say thanks for all the 'help' some of you have been and all the help some of you have been.. .
we mutually ended studies today, i think my two witnesses realised that they were losing more ground than they gained :-s.. .
eep, i never set out to upset them, but i think they fear they're losing their faith.. .

Thats amazing. You said you both agreed to terminate the study - how about your time then?.
When that is said and done, i think this can be an experience you can use later. Psychologically, its my understanding its mostly the same principles that drive the average jw, scientologists and member of radical biker gang, and getting some insight into this can be of value later... besides, they do have an interesting perspective on some bible verses, and they do point out some places that are not so obvious at first glance, i that might be interesting for someone like you who know the bible really well :-) -

When bad spelling trolls leave, new bad spellers (studies, JW's, JW lovers) arrive
by OnTheWayOut ini will totally leave names out, as many get all huffy about that.
it's also possible that i am wrong, though i doubt it.. it's just that some trolls seem to deliberately be terrible spellers to make themselves look more naive and when they leave here for whatever reason, some new bad speller comes along in less than a week with an impossible problem or a complicated love situation with a jw or they are a firm believer with questions.
just watch out.

It might also be the case that these people have never lived in a country where english is the first language [like me]. I know bad spelling is annoying, but i wonder how great most here would fare in their second language.
There is no such thing as bad spelling, there is creative spelling and weak readers.

If Shunning Didn't Exist, Would JW's Exist In Their Current Form?
by AllTimeJeff inin my opinion, this is the crux of the matter where ex jw's are concerned.. so many religions have disagreements with their members.
but you can disagree, research, question, and leave if that is your wish.
you may receive some sanction depending on the religion, but no shunning is required in the major faith's and religions of christendom.

Billy: I remember reading a Memo from the mid/beginning 80's (could be 81) where it was written that you could be DF for just THINKING out of line. you did not have to teach it to the others. i regret i didnt save it.
Regarding shunning - among the younger generation (ca. 20) i think its alive and well. My girlfriend has lost LOTS of friends just because she is seing me, ie. she is not invited when they have a party, etc. she is not disfellowshipped and she is not even marked. she just have a 'worldly' boyfriend .
I think shunning will continue to exist for the next many years.. they still have a card to play by turning all DF's into DA's (they are basically the same but as i understand it the WT believe that its leagally better to DA than DF), and even if they are prevented to tell the members to shun actively through the WT because it become to expensive, they can play the 'omg satan is procecuting us' card and 'hint' it.

by Witness 007 inwitness yearbooks are full of experiences where jehovah saved a poor witness who prayed for help...and the soldiers walked passed and did not see them etc, etc.
however, other brothers prayed and still got executed by gillotine so...why does gods will allow such things?
isn't this just random chance put down as god's will?

arshia, if you want to ask them something fun for the study, you should research on blood. for a starter, they dont have a proper definition of what blood is. blood is, it seems, what they say it is, because they once picked a particular definition out of a medical book (out of many) and ended up with a ban thats not logically consistent and has no scriptual backing. it would be fun were it not that many children have died. The WTS's start of the "70 years"
by Doug Mason init is my understanding that the scholars of the wts say that the "70 years" began when the land was "completely depopulated", not when jerusalem was destroyed.. .
if that is the case, they should have jumped from their 537 bce date back to the removal of inhabitants during nebuchadnezzar's 23rd year, thus making that 607 (or 606) bce.. .
did russell start the 70 years (and hence his 2520 years) with the destruction of jerusalem or with the depopulation of the land?.
