Thanks for the replies, i could have *sworn* he said there was, but the entire study was so surreal it might have been wrong - there was a lot of confusing on weather Jeremiahs profesy of the 70 years of servitude/desolation was the same as daniels profecy against Nebuchadnezzer...

Just don't know what to do.
by Weeping ini disagree on some doctrine with the organisation.
yet, i also know these are the kindest, most loving people on earth.
such people must be guided by the holy spirit.

Weeping: Iwe lived my entire life outside the organization and so has all my family and i can surely tell you its plain wrong when you write "there is no life"!
Im sorry you couldnt cut it in the real world back when you tried the last time, but this happends to many in their early 20's when they dont have the proper guidance from family and friends or just get in the wrong company. As to the JW's being the most loving and kind people - im not going to tell you that the average jw is evil or unloving, but they do teach some things that make them behave very badly. One of those is disfellowshipping and forgive me for being direct, do you feel that doctrine is loving or not?

It's not a twinity generation. It's a trinity generation.
by DT ini already discussed this on another thread, but i thought it might be worth mentioning again.. i count three groups of people (generations if you will) included in this new improved, tag team, overlapped, roof shingle style, generation.
there are the two overlapped generations of anointed since 1914. there are also the first century anointed.
this may not be what they meant, but it's what they said.. "to what generation did jesus refer?
-
bohm
Hm. im confused to... Perhaps what they want to say is that 'this generation' has two fullfillments, one back in the days of jesus, and one from 1914+2(real) generations?

Mill Hill Disfellowshippings
by BorgHater ina few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.
i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.

Paulapollos: Thanks for replying to my questions earlier. You have a very interesting story, its interesting how the WTS handle dissent from several people at once - the most recent examples i can think of are way back from the Ray Franz/Carl Olaf days! If you ever get your head around putting it all into writing, i am sure freeminds.org would be happy to puplish it.

Note reference to 607 B.C.E. on page 30, COC
by Butterflyleia85 in"we found absolutely nothing in support of 607 b.c.e.
all historians pointed to a date twenty years later.

I often wonder how they deal with this problem at the higher levels in bethel - ie. if there are special procedures to make sure its only really, really indoctrinated bethelites who get to research these troublesome issues when something has to be changed or re-written.

The Probabilty of there being an Intelligent Designer
by cantleave ini have been thinking a great deal about where i stand at this moment in time in terms of a belief in a creator verses a belief in an evolutionary process.
i think the best way to describe it is an exploratory path.
i look at what is around me and i acknowledge it is remarkable.

Razziel: When many people think of statistics, they think of estimators and Chi-square tests and so on. Baysian probability (as advocated by Jaynes and many, many others) is a very different foundation of probability theory - in that viewpoint there are no estimators or stuff like that, instead you start out by looking at the problem of infering things you cant be 100% certain of, so you want to quantize the uncertainty in a number (aka a probability), and then see how these numbers interact - the only thing you really know about them is that in the limit you are 100% certain about something, since in that case the rules should reduce to the rules of ordinary logic. Well, if you take that as an input and do a lot of mathematics you arrive at probabilities which behave like bays law says. The difference is that in this viewpoint its all subjective - not 'estimators' that give 'universally true' estimates and probabilities, but as Jaynes show by a large number of examples, this is really what you want.
The second part of jaynes project was to re-derive statistical mechanics so it rested on information theory, specifically the concept of entropy (also a subjective quantity). He does that and rederive the laws of thermodynamics, etc. He also introduce the concept of maximum entropy (maxEnt). Its really exiting stuff and something that is still debated, for example, the second law of thermodynamics can be seen as a problem with conservation of information (or rather, the problem that a system cannot hold information enough to describe itself), rather than the usual interpretation. I would say Jaynes book is a must for someone who work with inference or statistical mechanics, and its really fun - he has several appendixes which are only there to rip on mathematicans.

This was a good thread - to bad i never got to hear about this exiting law DD threw around earlier ;-) .

Paulapollos: Since you ask us to just ask questions :-). How did you get 'on their radar'? Was it a coincidense there was so many elders who had doubt over this doctrine in your area, or did something trigger it?

Why Christains make no sense to me, an example from Haiti...
by HappyGuy ini have some in laws who recently went to haiti to do "missionary" work at one of the churches there.
this "missionary" work basically consisted of singing and dancing and entertaining the church goers.
my relatives stayed at some houses owned by the church on the church property.

My Stuggling Life Story
by Coreash inbefore i begin " my struggling life story" names have been changed to protect there identity.it all started for me at the age of about 10 when myself and most of my mates used to bother with the girls down the road.we all used to play as young children did but it was after the girls had gone in where we would sit around and chat and as boys do, used to ask who fancied who etc etc.
well for me i wasn't that interested and thought nothing of it.
it was only when i started comprehensive school did i notice that i was slightly different to all my mates/friends.

Wow, thanks for a very long and touching introduction. I hope you will find support here to help you.
When i read about your experience with your sexuality, uncle - i keep thinking that if there ever was a good reason for going to a therapist, this would be it. At any rate, your experiences are extreme, but some here have been through things that has certain similarity - dont be afraid to start new topics for support or advice.
WELCOME!
