a vomit inducing comment.. i asked why do they have to specify 'meetings'?
they never miss us in tesco or the showcase cinema bar.. in their defence, a friend of mine said: 'that's because the meeting is where they normally would see you.'.
well, if they want to see you they can arrange a meal out or something.
Watch it twice and pick out the subtle stuff. Five Stars!
2:47 Look carefully at the title of the book the three elders are holding.
3:08 Look at the goods being bought in the shop.
3:24 The guy at the door is the only new male you are likely to bring to the KH from the ministry these days.

It could go nuclear.
If Russia/China/USA are involved each one is too big to be taken down by the other with conventional weapons and if it went nuclear the "winner" would be mortally damaged itself.
But let's say India and Pakistan square up to each other (Political/religious divide - Hindu and Muslim). Let's say due to the sheer size India is winning the conventional war. I could see elements in Pakistan "taking them down with us" and nuking major Indian cities.
Fortunately the bigger boy (India) seems to be the more peaceful one!
So I can see a continent being laid to waste but not the whole globe.
If the middle east - as in Israel and the Muslim nations went nuclear then any nuclear action would be in that region even if it came from any of the three major nuclear powers.
And the UK? I'm glad the UK has it's little fleet of nuclear subs out and about - it makes me feel safer as it did throughout the cold war. (even though Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, Brazil etc etc - even South Korea, get by quite happily without) and I believe that in hindsight the UK could've relied on the USA to be "The West's" nuclear deterrent.

Damned if they do damned if they don't,
We were trained to view any "meeting missers" as spiritually weak and to - yes - help the spiritually weak and yet to avoid association with them/us.
Usual pattern nowadays is a burst of concern expressed in texts/emails and maybe a phone call which quickly tapers off.
Then if you bump into them out and about a concerned "miss you at the hall" is what they blurt out.
Because that is often all we had in common ...
Look 'em in the eye and ask if they want to meet up for a coffee. In the 1 in 100 chance they agree go and talk about anything except what will incriminate you. (If you care and think it worth the risk)

Boom!
WTF?
I'm alive? Can I move? Family?
WTF - no electricity - no water - what's in the fridge - anything in the toilet cistern - any rain water in the water-butt (rainwater tank) outside?
OK ... what to do? what to do? Go to car turn on radio - static.
Right I need water let's find water. What food have we got?
Sits down and thinks OK I can survive a week or more on what we've got in this house ... but about then people will break in and take what we've got. Damn those Yanks were right ... a gun would be useful.
At my age I reckon if I survived the initial blasts but my country was so damaged that no emergency service was available I reckon I'd last a month if I could get uncontaminated water. Then I'd be murdered or die of radiation sickness because I'd eat what I could find and it would surely be contaminated..
i am still serving as an elder but just hanging in there.
i think their quandry is that they don't see me out in the field, but when they need encouragement and decent prayer they come to me.. i just got off the phone to this poor sister who i have only met twice.
she is not even in my congregation (her sister is).

Dark days ahead, everyone's dead - all because of tight, tight pants.
All nations are groaning, about Spanx we are moaning - that is our stance!
The light gets bright, when you wear what's right - just try to be more manly.
Elders don't expect you all, to be metrosexual - just to smile wanly.
Put on the suit, while we count the loot - march our trolleys off to war!
We don't dress weird, don't wear a beard - just do more and more!
(Chorus)
But the bible says "You may chuckle - but we're disgusted!"
But the Bible says "You may laugh - putting them on in the bath!"
But the Bible says "You may chuckle - but we're disgusted!"
But the Bible says "You may laugh - but you'll face God's wrath!"
we had another letter read this week from the 'slave' that asked for more money again.. it asked for a resolution to be passed by all congregations in support of the circuit overseer to pay their expenses and medical expense was included in there.. a resolution was put on the floor and voted upon and agreed by show of hands that our congregation would send over $2,000 for the year 2016.. the society broke it down to how much it would be per year for each publisher but i do not remember what they suggested.. i was glad i was listening in and not present this week because it would have been obvious i did not support the resolution because my hand would not have been up when the attendance took a count.. has anyone here also had the letter read at their service meeting this week?.
Sponsor a bethelite! LOL!
In our neck of the woods- medium sized UK city/town - there are still a few old widows passing away who's worldly husbands left them a company pension and a property to live in. I heard last year of some deluded old biddy leaving £200,000 to her congregation and the elders having a tussle with the London branch about whether it was her intentions to let it go to the "WWW" (AKA Wallkill luxury apartment complex) or not.
The local elders played the "Trustees" card as in trustees under the regulations of the Charity Commission to hold it back.
I've not found out more but I bet it eventually goes to the WT under their "loving arrangement."
However the point I am coming to is I believe that less are inclined to give their estate to the WT anymore. In my experience it's the kids and grandkids. And those now in their 50's and 60's looking at their own future have tougher financial constraints then their mothers in their 80's and 90's because:
A) Women don't get a state pension until they are 67 or more and so have to work seven years longer than the previous generation who retired at 60.
B) Their husbands don't typically have the "for life jobs" with company pensions.
dear (jw-brother), .
i was pleased and pleasantly surprised to receive your thoughtful letter.
thank you for your concern and for taking the time to write.
