out for a long time
by Sledracer inmy husband and i have been out for a long time, maybe fifteen years, i must say we are in a bit of a nowhere land spiritually, we find it impossible to attend any other church.
we really resent so much of how they messed up our and our children's lives.
we can't get back all those 25 years we were in.

Berkshire Circuit (UK)
by Dont_Believe_The_Truth ini'm hearing rumours of huge changes within the berkshire circuit here in the uk .
congregations being dispanded and kingdom halls closing down and being sold off.... official announcements within the next month apparently .
does anyone else have anymore info?.

I heard about this over the Easter weekend from someone who attends a congregation in Berkshire - she has an elder relative there too. Apparently the rumour is that the elders will hear something within the next 3 weeks.
So that fits in with the O.P.
Interesting - as Phizzy mentioned - "Hail the Theocracy, ever increasing! Wondrous expansion is now taking place!"

So if they lose one kingdom hall and just one congo per circuit and there are 60 circuits in the UK and they average 200K per KH that's ... umm ... errr ... takes off shoes to count using toes ... ...
£12,000,000
Then if they make London a non-printing branch after the Speshul Visit at the end of April they can sell all the London properties and make Chelmsford a branch for 100 instead of 1000.
Loadsamoney for the Magnificent Seven and their dirty dozen helpers to live off of.

What's the difference between 'works' and 'fruits'?
by TTWSYF inmy uber jw elder brother used to use jesus's quote "you know a tree by it's fruit" and then would speak about how jws are the only ones going door to door and restoring god's true name.. my niece was the first to point out that those were works and not fruits.
my brother retreated for a few days to contemplate the difference between works and fruits and when he returned to address the comment, he stated that works are fruits.
what's the take from the jw apologist?.
-
freddo
My take is that "fruits" are also the "natural" result. So if you are a loving and kind person that will naturally show as a fruit.
"Works" are doing things whether naturally or through duty or to save your skin or under compulsion.
So door to door ministry is "works" and could be a fruit of loving kindness towards others but equally or more likely through self-serving desires.

JW-Facts--Here is that Circuit Assembly Financial Report Form you wanted!
by Atlantis inour "spy" was able to get in and get out undetected.
we thank him/her for their kindness and courage.
remarks were made that the assembly this person attended only kept the women in their place.. i remarked to this person that one of these days the watchtower is going to "put down" the wrong woman who is going to clean their clock with a massive discrimination lawsuit!.

JW Hypocrisy Rears It's Ugly Head...As Usual
by babygirl30 inso about last night.... i am out at a local club (not restaurant, not event venue - a club) to see a rap concert.
now, i am with some friends minding my own business, and i find that i am standing right behind 3 active jw's - one of whom used to be my best friend.
this girl is as fake as they come: 1) she used to live with me and would bring non-jw guys home all the time, 2) was living with a man when she lived down south - until he dumped her, and then she decided to go back to jw's the 1st time and got reproved, and i supported her.

Anyone eat bunnies on Easter????
by James Mixon inwe eat turkey on thanksgiving why not rabbits on easter???
what's your traditional meal.
for easter??
-
freddo
The only bunnies that get eaten in the UK seem to be chocolate ones as an alternative to a chocolate egg.
There is a bit of a tradition (not nearly as widespread as the Xmas dinner tradition) to have some sort of "roast" dinner.

And then add ...
"Would you like me to post the pictures I took of you on my phone while you were at the club dancing to RAP music? Or shall I send them directly to one of your elders?"

Confused: What does the overlapping generation really mean?
by MicaSmith incan someone help me understand how the wt came up with the overlapping generation theory?
i just don't understand it even though i read the information several times.
it's bewildering.
-
freddo
Hi MicaSmith I can tell you WHY the WT came up with the overlapping generation in 2010.
It is because it suits their purpose. The purpose of keeping followers hanging on and justifying their existence as leaders.
The previous explanations of the generation were so obviously wrong that they had to change it for fear of even more people querying their explanation.
The explanation that got everyone who is a witness hooked was the one that told us that the generation that "saw 1914" (originally "with understanding" e.g a minimum age of ten - fifteen years old in 1914; but the "with understanding" got dropped as time ran out) would not pass away.
Even when this explanation was dropped in 1995, some folk clung to the hope that it was still true by telling themselves that a few million round the globe who "saw" 1914 would by no means pass away.
Now we live at a time where those born in 1914 are 102 years old it is obvious to virtually everyone that the old explanation cannot be sustained any longer. Hence the latest new, new one! (Several explanations since 1995)
edited to add: Actually Xanthippe, although the long held explanation was dropped in 1995 the overlapping crap wasn't brought out until 2010. There were two or three other crappy explanations in between!

Disturbing/Puzzling Skit at JW Function Last Night Plus Odd Choice of Music
by Cadellin inso i attended a fairly large jw gathering last night with my active, elder husband.
it was a good-by party for a former special pioneer couple who have been demoted to reg pios and have now moved to a larger city to find work.
anyway, there was music and skits.

I just hope the 9 year-olds - in 70 or 80 years time - aren't in a nursing home still believing the "very soon, so soon" crap.
There will be no paradise so I hope they will be free having led a good and fulfilled life with their grandchildren around them.
