Might be worth passing to the ARC and the UK commissions for information purposes as to "what lengths WT lawyers may go to to protect and help the WT" anywhere in the world?

Another generation....
by joey jojo init has been 21 years since the 1995 article that pretty much buried the idea of the '1914 generation'.. remember those guys?
the ones born in 1914 that would still be alive when the end of the system arrived.. i'm glad i'm old enough to remember going from door to door, preaching this belief.
the reason i say that is because i have a lot of 'still in' jw friends and family.

@ Darryl. They said it just as you remember.
The Watchtower 1967 1st May pages 259 - 262 article heading "Where Are We According to God's Timetable?
Under the subheading "THE END OF 6,000 YEARS" on page 262 is this little gem ...
"The generation that was old enough to view those events with understanding in 1914 is no longer young. It no longer has many years to run. Already many of its members have died. But Jesus showed that there would still be members of "this generation" still alive at the time of the passing away of this wicked system of things ..."
The next paragraph starts ...
"Interestingly, the autumn of 1975 marks the end of 6000 years of human experience ... ... What will that year mean for humankind? Will it be the time when God executes the wicked and starts off the thousand-year reign of his Son Jesus Christ? It very well could, but we will have to wait and see. Yet of this we can be certain: the generation that Jesus said would witness those events is nearing its close. The time is close at hand. On God's "timetable" we are in the closing days of a wicked system of things that will soon be gone forever. ... "
The last paragraph concludes with ...
"... The prophecy is sure; the time is short."

Former DO comments on Overlapping Generations
by James Jack inbrother richard (dick) morlan, a former co & do for many years, now lives in gadsden alabama, usa.
he is 77 years old.
i saw him at a recent assembly in dekalb county alabama and ask him about the prospects of him dying in this "system of things".. his reply was, "i am going to make it till armageddon, but if i should die before then, then the governing body is going to have to add another overlapping generation to another overlapping generations"!.

If his daughter dropped down dead he has double reason to hang on to the resurrection belief. He is emotionally in at age 77 because he looks down the twin barrels of his own coming demise and his daughter's previous one ...
He has been cast aside by the organizaton that used up every last drop of his energy and zeal and he enjoyed the ride and adulation. That's on one level.
On another level both he and their end time prophecies have simply run out of time.

Excellent Conversation At Literature Trolley
by cofty inyesterday my wife and i enjoyed one of our regular days out at edinburgh - movie, lunch, walk, meal etc.. in the late afternoon while mrs cofty went shopping i had an hour at the excellent museum of scotland and arranged to meet up outside the national gallery on princes street.
on my way back i saw the jw trolley was at the usual spot on the royal mile.
there was an older man and a young woman standing well back trying hard to look inconspicuous.

The fact you were able to shift from evolution to your being an ex-elder without him running away was excellent.
The fact that you got through to his true feelings and were able to talk knowledgeably about Blood; about Chelmsford/Money/Sophia and Caleb etc. is testimony to your social skills. If he remembers and came in for '75 he must be at least in his fifties or sixties.
Bravo!
Both he and the younger sister will never forget that conversation.

Zone visit Australia?
by stuckinarut2 inanyone else at this zone visit?.
more higher education bashing, with an embellished "experience"...... more quoting prov 4:18 out of context.. faithful and discreet slave definitions etc..... all the new "understandings" since 2012...... .
we are already in the great tribulation...?.

Well Geoff Jackson had a bit of tribulation didn't he? -

Ironic really.
The WT bleating about Russia closing down a bethel when they themselves have closed down or reduced to skeleton staff dozens of bethels so they can fund the GB and its cronies lakeside retirement complex.

Would you be a GB member if you were asked ?
by atomant inoff course you need to think back to when you were a jw to answer this question honestly and properly.but hypothetically if you had the spirituality and knowledge and was approached to be appointed as a gb member would you have taken on the position?and if you did what changes would you recommend ?.

I would be "a helper" if and only if my governing body "Magnificent 7" could be:
1. Judith Sheindlin (To sentence the old governing body to everlasting trolley work)
2. Angus Stewart (Sharp as a tack and a bit of thinking woman's crumpet for you girls)
3. Peter MacLellan (Iron fist in a velvet glove with a mind like a trap)
4. Barbara Anderson (Obviously)
5. Candace Conti (Well, also obviously)
6. Prince Philip
(gotta have one cantankerous old bastard with a bit of WW2 experience!)
7. Bear Grylls
(to oversee some decent outdoor fun for the kids and teenagers)

Survey: How long were you in the cult vs what year you were baptized
by ILoveTTATT2 inhi people,.
i want as much data as possible on the effect of the internet on the time captured by the cult.. please answer the three following questions about yourself or about someone you know (for example, if your parents or grandparents were jw's and left).
1) were you raised as a jw, or did you convert?.
-
freddo
1) Raised (aged 3 at parents first contact.)
2) Baptised 1976
3) Hard to be exact but completely mentally out by 2007 to 2010. Starting with one too many child abuse cases in 2007 and finishing with 2010 - the overlapping generations.
I think that the ARC, donation reminders and David Splane's jwdotorg flipchart explanation of the overlap have now made me determined to fade out rather than stay in for family.
