Hello! Welcome to you. -

Anybody remember those brothers that would harass, and hound the elders into making them, finally, appoint him as an elder himself?
by Dunedain inlol, for some reason, i was thinking back to all the many "characters" that were often so prevalent in kingdom halls back in the day.
they are, i am sure, still there now, but fortunately i haven't been in a kh for like 20 years.. anyway, i remembered this one brother, who was dying to be made an elder.
he could not believe he wasn't an elder yet, after sooo many years.

I've seen similar. About ten years ago an MS. He even wrote letters to the body twice a year complaining.
He moved congregations to get appointed. Hours and hours were spent on this brother because he would suck up to a couple of the dominant elders but there was always a couple of elders who did not dominate but would not be pushed around.
Even a DO and CO spent their visit discussing him with one of the bodies of elders and as always in these cases there is a good side and a not so good side to these people.
He changed congregations three times and never got appointed and on the last move they did not even make him a MS! As far as I know he still can't grasp why he doesn't qualify even as an MS.

Australia Branch to end magazine printing
by no-zombie injust one week from the zone overseer's visit is the announcement that the magazine production by the australia branch will end in a few months.
the task being transferred to the japan branch.
while i'm not 100% certain, i understand that this effectively ends all major printing bar perhaps tracts, handbills and other loose items.

This is simply another manifestation of a worldwide phenomenon.
Less magazines need printing. Very few donate to cover the literature taken anyway.
It is that simple. So the "printing branches" can be fewer and farther between. I mean a cheap tablet that can take jwonline library and be rolled out to the masses is now £100.
Think about Australia's geographical position. Who is going to take literature and donate for it? Little old jw ladies in Oz and NZ and that's it.
Indonesia is Muslim and poor, Philippines is poor and ripe for tablets over hard copy (and close enough to Japan). South East Asia make all the tablets anyway!
All they need now is a printing branch per continent.
My money is eventually on:
USA/CANADA for North America
MEXICO for everything south including South America (Maybe Brazil for a while?)
GERMANY for Europe, North Africa and the Middle East
JAPAN for Asia (India, China, Indo-China and the Pacific
SOUTH AFRICA for Africa below the Sahara

Sorry if my "letter" deflected from the excellent informative first post.
@ defender of truth
Quite right. I also guess they are very nervous in London at the moment what with the gruesome twosome GB helpers of Kikot and Flodin to visit in a week or two ...
Printing going to Selters and even more layoffs is the worry ...

TO ALL CONGREGATIONS
Dear Brothers,
Re: Wonderful adjustments in Australia Branch!
Due to continuing world wide expansion Jehovah's organization is recruiting bethelites in Australia. We particularly need lawyers and legal executives who specialise in "defending the good news" against "professed" victims of abuse and we have ready-made facilities to accommodate them.
How happifying that these accommodations are becoming available at just the right time due to dozens of full-time servants accepting assignments to the field as regular pioneers as the work speeds up deep in the time of the end!
One pair assigned to Oombawoomba in Northern Territory were overwhelmed! Brothers Toole and Tokley could not hold back tears of joy at their exciting new assignment.
Furthermore this self-sacrificing attitude means we are able to announce the building by the LDC of a brand new translation office to facilitate an aboriginal language translation office in Alice Springs! This will be headed by a very experienced brother who is so thrilled at his new assignment. Brother Terrence O'Brien said he was determined to help the aboriginal people learn of our grand creator and His promises about to be realised soon, very soon!
This office will have a traditional "outside dunny" and several rooms underneath an aboriginal hessian sheet and tin roof. We already have brothers to help build this facility and of course your donations will be used wisely.
You have been very generous; but did you know you can now donate via jwdotorgasm? Why not try out his new provision at your next family worship evening?
Please be assured of our warm Christian love and best wishes,
Your brothers,
CCoJW's
---
PS to Bodies of Elders
Please read this letter to the congregation at your next CLAM meeting.
If brothers request clarification do not engage in any negative talk about the Australian Royal Commission whatsoever. Rather encourage them to prayerfully consider what they can personally give to support kingdom interests (Acts 20:35) by way of a modest donation.
This postscript should neither be read to the congregation nor be posted on the noticeboard.

Giant Leak of Offshore Financial Records Exposes Global Array of Crime and Corruption
by JHK inmillions of documents show heads of state, criminals and celebrities using secret hideaways in tax havens... [...].
what about watchtower society's holy money?.

I haven't read all of the above posts but what incentive is there to hide stuff offshore if you don't pay tax anyway?
I suppose some of the more dodgy (as in incompatible with jw "Christian beliefs" as professed in WT and Awake etc.) investments might be easier to hide.

Might be worth passing to the ARC and the UK commissions for information purposes as to "what lengths WT lawyers may go to to protect and help the WT" anywhere in the world?

Another generation....
by joey jojo init has been 21 years since the 1995 article that pretty much buried the idea of the '1914 generation'.. remember those guys?
the ones born in 1914 that would still be alive when the end of the system arrived.. i'm glad i'm old enough to remember going from door to door, preaching this belief.
the reason i say that is because i have a lot of 'still in' jw friends and family.

@ Darryl. They said it just as you remember.
The Watchtower 1967 1st May pages 259 - 262 article heading "Where Are We According to God's Timetable?
Under the subheading "THE END OF 6,000 YEARS" on page 262 is this little gem ...
"The generation that was old enough to view those events with understanding in 1914 is no longer young. It no longer has many years to run. Already many of its members have died. But Jesus showed that there would still be members of "this generation" still alive at the time of the passing away of this wicked system of things ..."
The next paragraph starts ...
"Interestingly, the autumn of 1975 marks the end of 6000 years of human experience ... ... What will that year mean for humankind? Will it be the time when God executes the wicked and starts off the thousand-year reign of his Son Jesus Christ? It very well could, but we will have to wait and see. Yet of this we can be certain: the generation that Jesus said would witness those events is nearing its close. The time is close at hand. On God's "timetable" we are in the closing days of a wicked system of things that will soon be gone forever. ... "
The last paragraph concludes with ...
"... The prophecy is sure; the time is short."
All on your WTLibrary CDROM!

Former DO comments on Overlapping Generations
by James Jack inbrother richard (dick) morlan, a former co & do for many years, now lives in gadsden alabama, usa.
he is 77 years old.
i saw him at a recent assembly in dekalb county alabama and ask him about the prospects of him dying in this "system of things".. his reply was, "i am going to make it till armageddon, but if i should die before then, then the governing body is going to have to add another overlapping generation to another overlapping generations"!.

If his daughter dropped down dead he has double reason to hang on to the resurrection belief. He is emotionally in at age 77 because he looks down the twin barrels of his own coming demise and his daughter's previous one ...
He has been cast aside by the organizaton that used up every last drop of his energy and zeal and he enjoyed the ride and adulation. That's on one level.
On another level both he and their end time prophecies have simply run out of time.

Excellent Conversation At Literature Trolley
by cofty inyesterday my wife and i enjoyed one of our regular days out at edinburgh - movie, lunch, walk, meal etc.. in the late afternoon while mrs cofty went shopping i had an hour at the excellent museum of scotland and arranged to meet up outside the national gallery on princes street.
on my way back i saw the jw trolley was at the usual spot on the royal mile.
there was an older man and a young woman standing well back trying hard to look inconspicuous.

The fact you were able to shift from evolution to your being an ex-elder without him running away was excellent.
The fact that you got through to his true feelings and were able to talk knowledgeably about Blood; about Chelmsford/Money/Sophia and Caleb etc. is testimony to your social skills. If he remembers and came in for '75 he must be at least in his fifties or sixties.
Bravo!
Both he and the younger sister will never forget that conversation.
