Things I remember growing up in the 70s

i remember sitting on my daddy's lap and driving an imaginary car, i also remember sitting on my mummies lap on the front seat, without a seat belt whilst my dad drove a real car.

i remember we bought fish and chips from the chippy wrapped in yesterday's newspapers.

i remember bouncing up and down on my space hopper in the garden.

One with an image of Princess Anne for 6d - pre decimal currency

One with an image of Prince Charles for 2s 6d

Sports mopeds - a mid to late 70's phenomenon.

In the UK the age to ride a motorcycle went up to 17 and so in the early 1970's a 16 year old could only ride a 50cc moped (a tiny motorbike with pedals so you could pedal it along too) which would reach about 30 mph tops.

So the Japanese manufacturers and some European ones like Gilera Garelli KTM "sooped up" these bikes and gave them gears and a top speed of about 50 - 60 mph.

so the elders called wanting to meet with me and my husband.

most likely because i told a concerned jw friend of mine that i really care about that i wasn't coming back and a couple of the issues i had.

i didn't bring up any so-called "apostate" information, just told her about the australian royal commission and that there are a lot of unscriptural teachings and that the gb apply scriptures that are about jehovah and jesus to themselves, which is idolatry.

The Searcher knows what he is talking about and the advice he gives is spot on. In my past life I have - now to my embarrassment - been on scores of judicial committees (including an appeal committee or two). I have also been involved in a "special investigation" where the Branch sends a committee of chosen lackeys to investigate a cross-congregation or district situation.

Two witnesses or an admission is their key to all that flows from it. Do exactly as he says and calmly stick to your guns. Do not lose your temper or you may blurt out home truths about them and their organisation but which might also incriminate you in their eyes and procedures.

the spanish exjw forum is burning fire with the massive sale of jw kingdom halls and an assembly hall in spain, each week new listing places appears.

would jw survive in this country??

Overlapping Assembly Halls?

Where one new hall or refurbishment is financed by "voluntary" donations and three others are sold off and the loot sent to Brooklyn via the new European collection office.

The new hall overlaps the catchment areas of the old halls and the drones drive hundreds of miles instead of tens of miles to get to their one day donation session ... er ... circuit assembly.

at the assembly i noticed something new and disturbing.

when a brother is introduced before a talk the audience is now given their life history/ major accomplishments .. "brother arsehole who served at bethal for five years, pioneered in the foreign language territory for ten years, is an elder in x congregation and serves in the construction projects blah blah blah".

this puffing up never used to happen?

Yep, I noticed this in the UK at the RC.

A couple of years ago it used to be "Let's listen carefully to Brother Windbag - an elder from Fumbuck Central as he expounds on ..." and of course all the item takers at an RC or CA are elders of some description or another so no big deal there.

Now it's:-

"Let's listen to Brother Scripture Containing-Case who serves as Assembly Hall overseer, who has pioneered for 20 years and who is co-ordinator in the Plymouth (Drake) congregation."

What they should say is:-

"Let's listen to Brother Clipboard Hitler who helps pregnant mothers die for want of blood on the HLC and who solicits donations at the circuit elders meeting for the Chelmsford lakeside retirement complex and whose grossly obese wife is on anti depressent meds because he shows her no attention."

Did my bitterness show? Sorry.

Are they either leaving or going full on 'cult mode'? No quarter.

it might just be me imagining things.. i hear things from my jw spies.. from all that's being said, it seems to me that the rank and file(tm), are either waking up to the scam and fading/leaving.

they are going full on 'cult mode' and acting like 'spiritual police'.. is it just me and my imagination?

have others noticed this?.

The information freely available on the net is their Achilles' heel.

GB don't "want" people to leave. (Just like an abusive father/husband doesn't want his enabling wife and kids to leave) They want people to "shape up" to their man made self serving rules and standards. But increasingly people don't want to and see less reason why they should as all the promises made have been overtaken by time.

So the GB try to guilt trip, bully and scare them into staying. Increasingly stridently so this year with their "loyalty" message. And they portray Jehovah as an abusive heavenly father as they have made him in their own abusive, controlling image.

hi a court in the uk in loughborough have fined the jws over £1 million pounds for the court costs for a child abuse case in loughborough in the east midlands..
