Need some advice Re: JW marking by a family member
by William Penwell inso anyone that has read some of my posts on here over the years knows i have done the slow fade over the last 30 years.
i do not claim to be a jw and have not being in a kingdum hall now to attend a meeting or convention for religious reasons for almost 15 years.
now i know the discussion on here from this past dc was the rank and file dubs have being pressured to distance themselves away from family members that are no longer active dubs that they deem are not living up to wt bible principals.

Today's Text - Jehovah is my helper!
by Divergent intuesday, october 18. jehovah is my helper; i will not be afraid.—heb.
13:6.. “people often comment about how happy jehovah’s witnesses are,” says a longtime elder in a developing country.
“they also notice that even poor witnesses are always nicely dressed and appear to be better off than others.” this harmonizes with the promise jesus made to those who put the kingdom first.

@Searcher
The building plumbing leak you describe was in a jw monthly broadcast - one of the earlier ones I think. Sorry I can't be more specific.

How much interaction did you have? Would ignoring it be a possibility?

Err ... not quite. It says on the home page all are welcome.
Just because most on here are hurt by/disgusted by/weary of/etc. the WTB&TS and its Golden Calf JWdotORG doesn't mean that if anyone can show that JW's have the truth and represent any creator then we wouldn't respectfully listen and discuss ...

Do Jehovah's Witnesses view the governing body differently since seeing them on the TV?
by jambon1 ini think this may be a bigger issue for the society than we realise.. when you consider that witnesses have now had well over a year of regularly seeing their 'channel to god' with their own eyes, what do you think they're thinking?.
i'm going to put this as respectfully as i can; these men are clearly a bunch of utter clowns who are laughably inadequate to present a tv show, but also, they are now ridiculously discredited due to the absolute shite that they've spoken in these laughable productions.. consider things from a jw's perspective; tony morris, stephen lett & geoffrey jackson are 'the channel' that makes their religion 'special'.
these men are the channel god is using to lead his people in the modern day.

Most love it, pay lip service to it, or at least do the "emporer's clothes" bit.
However a few talk behind their hands and raise their eyebrows. It must be one of the causes for so much increased apathy in the western world.
I know at least half a dozen in my hall have said at least something derogatory to me about the broadcasts. Ranging from (especially) dancing trolley carts, through Stephen Lett's antics to Jehovah finds plumbing leaks.
One elder who is on most circuit assembly programs actually said to me it was more dignified when the governing body didn't show their faces.
So a lot are thinking it. And a few are saying it quietly.

In another thread you spoke of grabbing the biggest sword and swinging like buggery in relation to severing ties with JW'ism! I loved that. I wish I had the circumstances/balls to do it.

Blues Brother makes perhaps the most important point. Any family/old contacts that you don't care whether they shun you or not?
If you do decide to DA then why not email/write to anyone you know about the dangers of being a JW? (Child Abuse/money grabbing/false dates etc.)

New type study for inactive ones now?
by careful inof course, conducting a "bible" study (actually a wts publication study) with an inactive person who comes back is nothing new.
i did so on occasion when i was in, or the boe would assign someone else to do so, especially if it was a sister.. however, i recently heard of this: during the course of the study the elders would go through a loyalty check of the person wanted to rejoin up by going through the baptismal questions again, just like they were a complete newbie.
has anyone else heard of this?

@careful
darkspilver has it spot on.
Yes you offer a BS to inactives (under the service committee's direction) but if it's been more than about six months inactive they get the loyalty test usually dressed up as loving concern and usually based on what an unbaptised publisher gets asked (not the full baptism Q's).
However if Dave the drifter tells his study conductor he's done anything "serious" (ranging from smoking/bashing the bishop to porn etc. through celebrating Xmas/Hallowe'en and/or rogering half the University College cheerleading team all the way up to disbelieving 1914 was the start of the Gentile times or saying Stephen Lett acts and looks like a rubber faced clown) then he get's dealt with judicially and if "unrepentant" can find himself out on his ear with an unwanted DF around his neck.
