Unloaded on the husband of my wife's study sister last night, how much damage did I do to myself??
by insearchoftruth inwell had a really good weekend away from home, but i guess i knew that the respite from the wts would end.
tuesdays are the day my wife has her personal bible study with the sister and she has also had the husband come over on tuesday afternoons so the son can have the pleasure of a bible study (which he loathes, he is a high school junior and has no interest in this stuff).
i get home from work late, after a fairly long day and the guy is still there.

Great job! I'd bet money that he's talking to some more 'experienced' men and they are working up a plan on who's going to go back with him and how they are going to set you straight. You asked all of the exact right questions that anyone on the planet who comes into contact with jw's should ask! You should make your own tract and distribute it, you could call it: Questions JW's Couldn't Answer For Me. You have to keep us posted on this!................wf

District Convention Observations
by TD inthis year, i again accompanied my jw wife to one day (sunday) of the district convention this weekend.
for any who are interested, i offer these observations from the sunday afternoon session:.
a couple of things about the audience struck me as interesting.

It sounds to me from your observations, that the wts is more and more addressing things that 'apostates' (I use that term loosely) bring up on places like this instead of taking care of the 'sheep' that are in front of them. Like addressing old dates and articles have nothing to do with the current audiences, especially young people. It's almost like they are addressing these issues so later the 'flock' can say, "oh the gb were so right, they knew these things were coming, etc.........." Get what I'm saying? Anyone else see that?.........wf

Where did the Watchtower Org learn its Mind Control techniques ?
by wobble inthis is a little where and when, i am not widely read in chuck russells stuff or rutherfords, the former is quite looney and the latter makes me want to up-chuck.. but i get the impression, i must admit more from isolated quotes rather than proper reading, that chuck hardly used mind-control,apart from trying to convince that his strange interpretation of scripture was correct, and even rutherford didn't use it so much, although the signs are there.. so when, and where from ,did they learn the mind control methods they use, that are so similar to all the other cults, is there a college course being run somewhere on how to build and control your own cult?.
and do the g.b take extra lessons in it, and pass them on to all members of the writing committee?
and then down the ranks, the d.os and c.os certainly use it,and i don't believe it is un-consciously,they are taught.. any ideas ?

That's a great question. I've been trying to decide if what they do (this mind control stuff) is all deliberate or just part of the entity of religion/cults/collective ego, and therefore they themselves don't even realize what they are under, that they are just being used by something bigger. I'd like to know to............wf

Most annoying and irritating comments by JWs
by whathehadas insince i'm still suffering in this crackerjacks organization, these are some of statements that just drive me nuts.
1. in service: "we are not here to convert you" funny how jws have the true religion but resort to deception and outright lies in order to get people to listen
2. to other jws: "we won't have to deal with this in the new system" 7 billion evil doers dead and gone, no longer create problems for us

I always hated, "if it be Jehovah's will.........". And also, "sometimes the answer from Jehovah is no......". Like if something good happened to you, it was Jehovah's will and if it didn't the answer was 'no' from him and it wasn't his will. That stuff is such crap!.........wf

My friend needs help with a question about Jesus Apostles.......
by awildflower inthe other day in conversation with her husband, she was bringing out how jesus didn't start a congregation.
he said that the fact that jesus choice 12 apostles to 'take the lead' and look out after the sheep, is proof that the current elder arrangement is biblical.
she didn't know how to answer him and would like your opinions or research on the topic.. so the question is: are jesus 12 apostles proof of an elder arrangement?.

Thanks guys for your thoughts, I'm sure my friend appreciates it, she reads the board but isn't signed up. Yes Wobble, come to think of it I typed up that section in Ray's book for her a while ago. So I'm sure when she reads this it will remind her to take a look at that again. Very helpful.......wf

Therapy?
by BirdFood ini was just curious how many ex-jw's are in therapy to work through the shunning, family issues, bad experiences while still in, etc.
i go every other week, and sometimes i feel like it's helpful, and other times i feel like it doesn't really change anything and wonder if it's even worth going.
it's not horrible, but it's not really enjoyable to go either and sometimes i feel like my therapist just doesn't understand the manitude of the situation.

I was fortunate enough to be in touch with a therapist who is an inactive jw so it helped so much that she knew exactly what I was going through. I look at the therapy I got as part of the journey I'm on. When I first started it, it was exactly what I needed. If it weren't for that I don't know if I'd be here and I didn't end up having to take the anti-depressants my dr. gave me. I never felt worse though after a session, always better. Now I don't have therapy but maybe every few months, but she's definitely one of my friends now. It's all part of the journey...........wf
