Hamsterbait, I just finished reading a book called The Voice of Knowledge by Don Miguel Ruiz. The first chapter is called Adam and Eve, the Story From a Different Point of View. It was very interesting his take on it. I typed out the whole first chapter for a friend the other day (it's pretty short). I wanted to post it but wasn't sure if that would be against the rules. But you should read the book..........wf

Adam and Eve should have scuppered God'sWIll before the breezy part of day
by hamsterbait ingod barred the way to the tree of life after a&e ate of the tree of knowledge.. because if they ate of it they would be guaranteed never to die.. so - omnipotent god says that if they eat the fruit of knowledge they will die.. and - omnipotent god says that if they eat the fruit of life they will not die.. so is god here admitting he cannot make them die if they eat yet another goddam piece of fruit?.
this sounds a bit like the argument i used to dismiss (was it hegel or kierkegaard?).
can an almighty god make an object which he cannot move?

Anybody keeping up with the violence in Iran?
by ohiocowboy init is heartbreaking to see the violence going on in iran.
our news isn't really reporting on it, but it is huge news.
many deaths going on, the iran government is trying to suppress information, and people are being arrested and killed for wanting democracy.. here is one of many twitters on the violence;.

Of course the violence is horrific, but as was said on the news this morning, and something I highly agree with, the best thing those people can do is keep the course to overthrow the current leader. It is part of a planetary shift for humanity in the right direction. They must not let bad energy/evil conquer. I am betting that they will succeed in there mission for change. And I agree, the best thing we can do is send positive energy of love and peace with our thoughts and actions. It really works!.......wf

Hello everyone
by Wordlygirl ini have been lurking on here for some time and i finally decided to join the fray.
i am 25 years old and was raised in the society.
fortunately when i was 8, my father left the organization and this allowed me to see the wrold from both angles, the jw (mom) and not (dad).. at first, i was strongly on the side of the witnesses and i even allowed myself to be convinced that getting baptised at 11 was a good idea.

I'm so sorry about your husband. I hold a special place in my heart for those in the military as well, my husband served 22 years in the Navy. It brings tears to my eyes everynight when I see more died over there, and so young! I hate war but appreciate our troops. Welcome.....wf

You make a great point. One of my biggest complaints about this org is that they make millions and millions of dollars and although they know the law inside and out and spend money knowing it, they wont spend any money to take these so called 'shepards' and get them some education in basic psycology or child development or something that might actually help someone. Oh, but higher education is a no no....Your right, it's probably not a very equal analogy but I guess I was wondering if there was ever a time to just 'cut someone out' for their own good. I don't know........wf

I like that show. It's a show that takes various cases people have usually involving addictions to drugs or alcohol. They follow them around for a while documenting their lives under addiction, talking to friends and family members. The person doesn't know that he's actually on a show about interventions so in the end, all of their friends and family that love them, get with a councelor and write a letter to be read to the person about all the ways their addiction makes them personally feel. In the letter they are also suppose to write that if the person refuses the help offered that there will be consequences, usually a cutting off of all family and friends ties. The person is let in a room and the letters are read pretty matter-of-factly, then the person makes his dicission, some choose the treatment, others don't.
Question? How is this different from what the WT society does with their df'ing policy? They to set up a meeting with an individual, usually read some things, offer an alternative or a consequence, cutting off of friends and family. We all agree we hate that arrangement. But in the Intervention show, I find myself saying that this is the best thing for the person to get help with his addiction. See what I'm saying? I am not for the df thing, but when is it ok to 'cut people out' for their own good and when is it not? Would unconditional love work every time, or do drastic measures have to take place some times. I guess one of the differences here would be the crime!
Welcome the thoughts.............wf

The Watchtower Didn't Make Me An Atheist
by B_Deserter inive posted on this before, but i figured i should lay my thoughts out again on the subject.
there are some in the ex-jw community who are saddened because the watchtower organization has turned me and others like me off to god.
the watchtower attacks and debunks other religions on a regular basis, often giving us the sense that if the watchtower is wrong, then there cant be a god.

My husband was in the Navy 22 years, I got married to him half way through that so I spent 11 years as a Navy wife. It is a different community living on military bases and I remember in the Navy these guys would go out on the ship for 6 months at a time and when they returned it was just like this video, all the feelings. I don't think people realize how long 6months, a year or two can actually be. I know people who start to loose it when their mate isn't around for two weeks! I'm not for war but I am for these people who from a very good motive in their heart, are doing what they feel is best for us and the country and the world. I to am thrilled that more and more 'good news' is on tv finally. Good things that people are doing for eachother, animals and the planet. The nightly news has a great peice called Making a Difference and I cry every night over what people are doing. And of course in the org, these people would still be 'bad association'! They only focus of the bad news in the world and never the good news! I'm a firm believer that whatever you put your energy into, good or bad, it will come back to you that way. If we focus on good things like this, the world will change for the better. If you focus on the negative, you will live a miserable life like most JW's do. Anyways thanks for the video.......wf

I agree JR, and now my son, who is almost 19 is having a hard time knowing how to just 'date' and make 'girl friends' because I raised him to believe that you don't even do that unless your ready for marriage. Since we left we are having to relearn many things. It's weird at times.......wf

A cool little youtube video to watch...
by Tuesday ini'm pretty sure this is based on one of my older theories regarding satan being the true god and jehovah being the devil and writing the bible from his perspective in order to stop people from worshipping the true god satan.
this is one of my smaller points in that theory, but this video is short, sweet and i think pretty fantastic.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4xfznro348.

Thanks for the info. The chapter is short, shorter than a lot of things I've seen on the boards I just wondered if there was a rule against posting someone's work. I don't know, I'll wait for some other responses I guess. Maybe I could sent it to gunshy in a pm? Or to anyone else who wants it in a pm?.........wf
