people who would loudly whisper comments into their kid's ear while the kid was repeating the comment during the book study or wt. then the whole congregation would run over and say how wonderfull little brother so and so or little sister so and so was. great, so your kid can repeat what you say.

Most Annoying Things That Happen At JW Meetings
by LittleSister intoday i was remembering how angry i used to get at the meetings and all the little irritations that in the end would just make my blood boil these included:.
prayers that go on foreverstudy or wt conductors still taking comments when its clear that the point has been covered 20 times alreadymeetings over running by more than 5 minsmy favourite was this one elder who would play guess the point i am thinking of.
he would keep rephrasing the question from the wt until someone would bring up the point he was thinking of.

wait, after 1000 years, i may not be good enough?
by rockmehardplace inin conjunction with sd-7's topic - so we make it through the big "a".
we go a full thousand years to perfection, and then the bad guy is let loose to see who he can take with him.
is this fair?

think about how when you wake up in the morning. you never turn the lights on fully at first as it will hurt your eyes. you gradually get used to the light until it is fully bright. just like coming into the religion from the outside. you start with the basics. simple things really. common ground is found. people have a variety of reasons for starting up a study: tramatic issues, bad home life, no friends, longing for spiritual connections. could be about anything. but the beginning groundwork is started slowly with that common ground. trust is gained, and then information is added. as time goes, you find one of two thing really happening. either you become entrenched without really knowing it, or you call BS and run.

"they need the truth"
by rockmehardplace ini always hated that saying.
as a jw, didnt we believe everyone needed it.
but you would always have brother or sister so and so talking about how miserable someone was, or the problems they had and it always ended with " they need the truth".

outlaw - you are so right with that. my jw brother in law is a self righteous jerk. he is an elder in a neighboring congregation from my wife and i (or now just my wife). a few months ago he was telling me about a guy in his congregation that they went on a shepherding call to. they were trying to bully encourage back to the meetings. he said the guy brought up all this information about failed prophecy and 607. he even gave him info directly from old WT magazines to support some of his claims. by brother in law said that it was just satan pulling another away with lies and falsehoods and that this guy didnt deserve the truth with his attitude and apostacy.

true comfort by telling me they are dead?
by rockmehardplace ini was at work over the weekend finishing up a project with my boss.
we needed the weekend because he had to take off a few days during the week for a funeral.
on saturday, he asked me what jw's believe about death.

So, if we weren't so horny we wouldn't have religion. LOL Oh, god, is that ironic or what, seeing as how religion (that bastard offshoot of spirituality) often seeks to control sexual behavior, either promiscuously or restrictively. But, that may also be because they're connected somehow in our brain meats.
interesting. so if we did not have religion due to our desires, we would not have anyone to call out to. OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD!

i was at work over the weekend finishing up a project with my boss. we needed the weekend because he had to take off a few days during the week for a funeral. on saturday, he asked me what jw's believe about death. i explained the jw thoughts on the dead being aware of nothing at all and basically asleep. he said that after the funeral, he talked with his one relative who is a jw and she said the same thing. he then said he preferred to view the person in heaven looking down. knowing that the person is not there is actually not a comfort as she said it would be. my boss felt like the only thing that brought comfort was knowing this person looked down on him and now, knowing what he was told, he feels cheated.
i never really gave it much thought over all those years, but i think my boss was right. jws rip away the comfort of knowing someone still is there in spirit.
