this means i can comence building my 'lord of the rings meets the flintstones" type earthy paradise here in the bush .. so please forgive me if i don't stop smiling for a year or three .

Well, my worst door was one of my first.. an older drunk idiot started screaming irrationally and scared the living crap outta my son .... it was horrible....
In nearly 10 years of door to door, even with ministers and such... no one ever argued with the bible... I'd make it so we just discussed the scriptures at hand ... lots of debate about what they meant mind you... but even the preachers didn't get out their bibles... it's kinda weird when you think about it...
One of my funniest doors was when a fella came to the door completely naked ... Yes, it really happened to me... and another sister... I guess we interrupted him. I was nonplussed and just continued my shpeel looking him straight in the eyes....(notice the plural at the end of eyes.. thanks..) the other sister with me couldn't even speak.... lmao... it was pretty funny.. he took the tract.. and I wrote him up as a return visit... hahahahahahahah! He was pretty nice lookin too....

Yep... some poor slob reached out and touchy feelied me.... I've had posted letters twice in the past year and a half...(It's a relatively small telephone book) ... they must be new to the area cause the old local dubbies consider me Satan's spawn..and they don't call on me at all..no invitations.. no nuthin....Since it's a small town, I know most of them and I didn't recognize the name.... It was a short note and a tract... both times and not around memorial time.. which was weird... someone going through the phone book getting names and addresses. They left the KH number though....I can't wait till a dub knocks on my door... explaining to them who I am and what I did will be quite a treat... I just want to see that fresh horrified expression again... geez, I miss that.
I started in '90, and they had me telephone witnessing, and writing short notes... plus your basic D to D...I think the telephone witnessing was the new thing at the time...
RB... I love the tract idea for Unc's Paradise... sounds awesome and Unc... you could do it up real good... you could have people throwing their glasses and crutches away too.. just for effect... it would go well with that vapid expression ....I always hated that look... very fake..very 2 dimensional....reminds me of the Stepford Wives....*shudder*

This thread is an interesting read.. I've been out since '97, and it was my thinking that JWs were becoming a little more self protective....as in fearing reprisals for even the slightest breach... especially associating with anyone DA or DF... in the past year especially since a few have broken off contact... not all but a few...
Before I left, it was that methodical plodding along... but there was still some enthusiasm... the century was nearing it's end and people were excited... I remember the generation change and I remember the Watchtowers at the time were saying end of this century... then it was changed after 2000... they even changed it on the CDs.. without notation mind you... but in 94, 95, 96 it was all "by the end of this century".... Well, they blew that... I felt like such an idiot when 2001 came and went and still... no armaggedon... lol... what idiots we were eh! God, we knocked on people's doors telling them that... hahahahahhahah...

I firmly am convinced that spanking is the thing we do because we don't know how to do anything else or it's just to damned easy. Yes, I "spanked" my child, a few times... felt like a total moron afterwards...i did it because I thought it was appropriate, but also because I didn't know another way. And don't tell me people aren't angry when they spank their child... you wouldn't be hitting them unless you were angry...restrained or not... your angry! I remembered as a child I really hated being spanked (spanking - I use in the loosest of terms - was quite liberally applied when I was a child. We were also "hit" with objects such as the bats from bat-a-balls, fly swatters, wooden spoons, skipping ropes... yep, that sucked.....mostly by mom... but dad got into it to; I'm in my 40's , child abuse wasn't even a term that had been coined in my childhood) It had been abused so many times and so many ways when I was young... and frankly, it's easy to abuse it. Too easy.
I don't beleive in spoiling a child, but I found out about "Time Out" (which had just started when I had my child) and it was my solution. It was very effective, along with positive reinforcement... I made sure that my child and I could reason on issues... Now, I can't say I was perfect, but my child was always with me. I stopped working and stayed at home. I had control for the most part over his behavior... I'd take him downtown to Art Galleries, out for coffee with friends, to the science centre, and the Royal Ontario Museum.. that was his favourite.. there was no place I couldn't go with him because he was always with me...he almost always behaved.. he had my attention and care... and I think a lot of that is missing in today's parenting. Parents aren't for the most part present. They have very little moment to moment control over situations that may arise and that seems to translate into having to resort to corporal punishment more often, and more severely. They rely on other people to raise their children. And they are so tired. People are so darned tired today... No vip or vigor to speak of .... sedentary... which is another difference... When we were kids you couldn't keep us indoors... we hated being inside... now... plunked down in front of the telly is where most kids and their parents are... that really sucks... and yes, I am guilty of that myself... I wasn't always such a media addict... My child and I used to go to the park every day for a couple of hours... even when it snowed.. we made igloos, snowmen... went toboganning... we had a ball! But you don't see that as much... I remember we used to have to wait in line to toboggan down the hill, the whole community was out there... now, it's very sparse...it's sad really...
I think that if your a parent who is present with your child.. spanking is less of an alternative if you are taking advantage of the time you spend with your child... and if your a parent like most who have to be away from the children I think that spanking is the easiest and most time effective solution that they choose.. I'm not saying it's right or wrong.. I'm just speaking from observation and my own experience.
That's just my opinion...

I AM SO SAD!!!!

i have not been on talking of anything deep because i have been working on a project to post on the net (hopefully at jourles site) about wt hypocrisy and hope also to get something at least a pebble size stone to throw at the wtbs on their pedophile policies.

I was just finishing reading through the replies and wow... there are some wonderful people here... and great advise too... I sometimes think back to dubdom and compare it to this DB and dubdom can't even hold a drop of water to it.... it's amazing that people can reach out and effect so much more of a positive change and encouragement with their computers, over the Internet, (impersonal and cold as that may sound) than an army of 5 mill can preaching their empty message worldwide up close and in person...
