i've just watched "a beautiful mind", with russell crowe, on video.. i loved it, even though i was moved to tears.
believe me when i say that's an accolade.
last time i got near to that was seeing "dead poet's society" and "awakening" with robin williams, on the big screen (1989/90 respectively?

since before a witness gets baptized, they are told to "be no part of this world".
that is beaten into everyone's head.
now that you're not a jw or are on the way out, how does being part of the "world" feel?
For me, the difference is that as dubs...we pretended love and friendship, pretended righteousness, pretended to be happy, pretended our lives away....
As a person of the world (which we all are truly, whether we pretend otherwise or not) I don't have to pretend anything. I can be involved if I choose, I can really love, really be right (lol) and really be happy. There is no comparison between the two... There's nothing like the real thing! (in all of it's aspects)
Dubs can pretend all they like, but when it comes to showing what they really are, how they really feel... all you have to do is disagree with them... or just not be the average dub.....then you'll see the only thing dubs don't pretend is their hate....the only real expression they are allowed is hate.....and that IMO is perverse! I prefer the worldly alternative.... choice!

LT:
Loved "A Beautiful Mind", with Russell Crowe. Excellent movie.
Also loved "Dead Poet's Society". I went out and bought it to keep it on hand... very moving... my son watched it too and really liked it...Robin Williams has several really good movies... Did you see "What dreams may come? Another really good movie, but it wasn't too popular.. which surprised me.... Goodwill Hunting is a must see too... what can I say... I'm quite a Robin Williams fan... :)
Cruzan
"Adaptations."
Now that was a very different movie... it took a bit to get into it, but when I did, it stuck with me... I really did like it... very oddly reality based too, which added to it's presentation....
Robdar
"The thing that ruined it for me was that stupid, sappy speech where Nash (Crowe) said that love saved him. Yeah right. By the way, Nash never said that. I thought the ending was a shameless ploy to try to get me to cry. I think Nash's story deserved better than this."
I felt that way too, but that scene was redeemed, to me anyways, seeing Nash and his wife at the Academy Awards.... I think in many ways the movie was trying to make up for some of the injustice that happened to him... Maybe a bit of a slap in the face to the old establishment and their treatment of this brilliant man... The movie portrayed his illness very well I thought... in such a short time span, you could feel like you understood what he was dealing with...

recently a poster shared with us that her father had committed infidelity.
then 3-5 years later, decides he can no longer live with the guilt and confesses to his wife.
he alone with his actions turned the entire family upside down.
I'm with Cruzan on this one... I would definately want to know...
I see it as, he made a decision and acted a certain way... he had his reasons... she should be given an opportunity to make a decision based on her reasons....
It's too bad though that kids have to go through it... I don't agree that kids should be confessed to in these situations... What ever happened to parenting...*shakes head and sighs* I know things could be strained for a bit, but I would do my darndest to keep the kids out of it...

most europeans have more than a little difficulty in telling a us accent apart from that of a canadian one.
it's a bit like ozzies and kiwi's, until you've met a few, the differences aren't that apparent to the untrained ear.
some folk even think that the us and canada are simply interchangeable terms for what is basically the same place.
There's something about snow people eh?
Being able to drive in the stuff is second nature to most people who've lived here... and not just in Toronto... they rarely get what most of us call "snow"! WTG Detroit.... we luvs ya too!

Hey doc...
Canadians say zed.... I remember placing an order in South Carolina for custom furniture and the operator kept correcting me on that saying "Did you say Zee"? lol... I said no, I said zed but it's the same thing.... hahahahah.. she was not impressed... no sense of humour to say the least...
Oh well... if she only knew she was speaking to another American....*sigh*

LOL @ Mary
I love Rick Mercer and "This Hour Has 22 Minutes"... I saw "Talking to Americans" and thought it was a total hoot!!!!! LOL
I love it when Marg does her Zena bit with the politicians too... an absolute scream!
I agree that Sadam had to be dealt with... but it was the US who got him where he was in the first place... he got his training from the US during Iraq's war with Iran so it is fitting that the US got him out of Iraq... but it was an american issue... one they knew they had to deal with and Canada has nothing to do with it....and I think the US should keep him out of Iraq... I hope they get the rest of the bastards that they help install in the middle east too.... cripes... they should know better by now....re:Columbia...*shakes head and sighs*
Toodles for now Mary... and sorry it took so long to get back to you.... our power was out...
Inq
for now anyways... it was out here for about 20 hours... .
they're going to do rolling blackouts so the power can be distributed around the entire affected area... this truly sucks... we don't have a water problem where i live as of yet...thank goodness for generators... but they are passing bylaws in areas close to lake huron not to water the lawns...and enforcing water restrictions... i hope this doesn't get worse!
i can't imagine why someone would water their lawns this weekend... we've got thunderstorm warnings in the area.... well, i don't have much more time with power until it goes out again... so i better make this short.... toodles for now.
Hi DoubleEdge and Ballistic....
well, most folks had friday off... no power here until past 12pm... but it messed with everyone's weekend plans... the Premier declared a state of emergency for the province and people were told not to travel... they had some looting and problems with youth in Ottawa and Toronto... funny.... Ottawa was worse than Toronto... all those spoiled brats of political leaders I suppose... lol....
They said that a cascade failure of the grid happened... They had a similar problem in 65 and thought that they had corrected it.. but.. the basis of the system is still the same... I think a major overhaul will be suggested, and then completely ignored... again... it would cost tons to do it... not to mention that Ontario has a freeze on hydro prices till 2006.. no one is going to put money in if they can't get a return on it.. so if they do really fix it this time...it will end up costing us consumers big time...as usual...we're already paying off the cost of purchase of the provincial facility... it's called debt retirement charge... figures eh... a company buys a facility and makes the consumer pay for it... pretty saavy kiss on the premier's butt I'd say...but, I digress...
toodles for now

.
the power outage has been traced to a dim bulb in the white house .

This truly sucks.. power outs are not only boring as heck, they are expensive too.... as in all the food in the fridge spoiling.. I did pretty good though... bought bags of ice and packed the fridge and freezer with them.. but it's $2.50 a bloody bag!!!! (What's that... $1 US? lol
