mama1119: I left the witness organization about 10 years ago. Four years ago I took RCIA classes and was baptized catholic. I don't dwell on the infallibility of the pope or the logic (or not) of the trinity. What I have come away with is a personal relationship with God. As a witness I always believed God was out there, up in heaven. Then why did Jesus say "I am always with you". I now have a relationship with God that I never had in 30 some years as a witness. To know he is real and right here with me at all times is amazing.

Whos smarter, Catholics or J.W.s?
by wheelwithinwheel inas i was growing up my dad would always make a special effort to enlighten his catholic brother-in-law.
hed ask my uncle to get out his catholic bible and show him scriptures.
one of his favourite arguments was the doctrine of the popes infallability.

Twilight movies
by darnkid indoes anyone know exactly what the society has said on the twilight movies?
is it a matter of conscience or a real no-no?
my children are witnesses, i am df'd so i can't say anything, but one of them indulges in these movies and books-the baptized one who won't visit me or talk to me unless absolutely necessary.

I keep hearing it is not a vampire movie, it is a love story. Yeah right. My youngest daughter doesn't approve of her sister being involved but their dad made it a conscience matter, then gets onto her for the movies she likes. Real christian family. My youngest said they gave a talk at the KH and used the movie name. But I don't know the content of the talk and I had heard somewhere that they spoke the movie name at one of the conventions.

Anyone have any information?

As stupid as it is I will tell you my story, embarrass myself if you will
I got divorced, the ex DA'd himself. My entire family are witnesses, just couldn't DA myself. So I started smoking. Dumb, I know. However, it did relieve the stress of the times.
For six months they kept having meetings with me, trying to get me to quit. I would go, say I would work on it and smoke in the car on the way home (nerves!) Finally at the last meeting I just said I didn't want to quit and they would just have to do what they were going to do and get it done and I left.
I don't regret being tossed out, however it is tough having no family, especially my two girls. I miss them terribly. Regret-no, anger-BOILING OVER!

Since Leaving The "Truth" Is Your Life Better?
by minimus inyou are told that if you "go back to the vomit" of the world, you will be miserable.. is your life better or worse since you've removed yourself from the organization's hold?.

Igadsen: In my 34 years as a Witness I NEVER felt close to God. In the last 4 years I have come to know God, REALLY know God. He is not the uptight, vengful God the Witnesses threaten everyone with. When Jesus came to the earth and died he fulfilled the law. Yet the organization is too bogged down with rules and "laws" just like they were in the days Jesus was on the earth, which was what he kept trying to tell them.
I did not leave the organization (I won't call it the truth since it ISN'T) to do whatever I wanted. I am not breaking any of the 10 commandments. What I am doing is living a life, finally, WITH God, I am able to see God in all things. I don't practice hatred as the organization does. The organization has taught my children to hate me. What kind of God would tell people that? Not to mention that your Awake magazine from earlier this summer acknowledged that people have the right to make religious choices and that no one should have to choose between God and their family. Another reason I left-HYPOCRITS.
I suggest you read "Crisis of Conscience" by Raymond Franz. A real eye opener on your "truth". It is more like power and control than truth. Actually more like a bunch of guys getting off on playing God with peoples lives.
What will you do when you die and don't wake up in the "new order" but in heaven in front of God for judgement???

Holiday time were you sent to the library or not?
by restrangled inthere are many generations of xjws here.
i'm curious as to what happened to you in school.. were you sent to the library during festivities, allowed to stay home, or allowed to participate?
enter the years if you can and the number of jw's with you.. mine: mid 1960's to mid 70's.

Early 70's, early grade school got to stay home.
Mid 70's went to the library.
Junior high in late 70's just hung out in the class room watched others trade valentines, some would give me one anyway, just wouldn't tell mom & dad nor take it home.
Fortunately in high school no one was into that.
I got SO TIRED of telling kids "we get presents all year round"---NOT!!!
How lame. We were jealous as hell that we didn't get presents!

A question for all ex jws AND JW's here, btw I'm new too
by EndofMysteries inso far quite dissappointed from what i've seen.
this is very very important, first i"ll address the non/ex jw then i'll address the jw's (jw's scroll down if don't wanna see the first part).
i see so many who have concluded that it was not 'god inspired', a lot of what is being done, and their conscience told them that many things conflicted with jesus teachings and the bible.

EndofMysteries: I can only speak for myself. I DID NOT LEAVE THE ORGANIZATION SO THAT I COULD DO "BIG BAD IMMORAL THINGS". You are an idiot if you think that is why people leave.
I believe in God, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. I just believe they are more loving and forgiving than the witnesses believe. If you really have questions as to why people leave-read "Crisis of Conscience" by Raymond Franz, a former "anointed" member of the Governing Body. It is a real eye opener.

Has the wts ever declared what they consider constitutes a cult?
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. inblondie perhaps?
has the wts ever put in print what in their opinion is a cult?
a bold move on their part to be sure, but definitely within the scope of their brashness.. cheeses..

I am reading Crisis of Conscience by Raymon Franz. They definitely ARE a cult. He doesn't say it, but the accounts he gives and how they play with peoples lives-I can't see how they would not be a cult. It is so sad and scary, still having my children in that.

Emailed Talk From Governing Body Member Last Weekend
by tryingtoexit inwhat's good a-ebody??
just thought i'd share this email with yall real quick.
it still amazes me that i was a jehovah's witness for 27 years and never thought twice about these types of talks other than i need to make sure my act is together when the end comes, and now i can't even read/hear it without getting mad.

I have just started reading Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz and it is weird to read this post and KNOW what Ray Franz is talking about. Makes me more desperate to find a way to get my kids out.

Did you Exit the Witnesses Gradually - Or Exit Suddenly - Your Reasons ?
by flipper ini thought it would be good to discuss it to understand what caused some of us to exit suddenly, or some to exit gradually .. myself , i had been in 44 years , had mentally had doubts for years before exiting - but injustices by the elders and my doubts about the " generation " doctrine led me to exit suddenly one night before a meeting.
the elders pissed me off , i went to my seat, picked my books up and walked out - never going back.
so what is your story and reasons ?

Well, I would have tried. But I am sure not for long. When I was 16 I told my dad I didn't want to be a witness. "You live in my house..." I know he did it cause he loved me. I was finally free at 36. That was 8 years ago and I don't regret leaving, I just wish my kids could see how wrong it is, what they are being taught to do to me. It rips my heart out, over and over.
