I don't think it is a matter of intelligence but rather if a person has thinking ability. If a person has the ability to think for their own then when they read the ridiculous crap in the publications it just does not make sense. It could be that alot know it is crap but it is just must easier to go own not thinking for themselves. As they say ignorance is bliss.

WHAT'S THE WORST SCANDAL YOU KNOW OF?
by minimus insome here have been privy to certain scandals such as pedophilia in your congregation.
we have never had such a scandal in our area that became well-known.
one of the worst scandals i've heard was that of how 2 elders terrorized an entire congregation.anybody that disagreed with them, was considered disloyal.

I know of two sisters who were victims of incest by their JW elder father. He was an elder in good standing up until about 5 years ago. He served as an elder at least for 10 years but probably more and he was a pedophile. His wife knew too. His two oldest daughters who were his victims left the "truth". His wife is still married to him. He was told he either had to step down or he would be removed. It only took at least 20 years since his daughters were grown when this all came to light.
Also after a major hurricane the PO of my congregation was in charge of the building committee and he had his rental home repaired first by the volunteers and nobody was even living in it!!! The whole congregation was pissed. Finally the society sent in a committee to investigate and nothing was ever done to the PO. He is still the PO to this day. The hurricane was 5 years ago. One elder was so disgusted by the whole thing he actually stepped down and quit attending meetings for a while.

Australian Convention Pioneer family Experience - We found our vegetables in the gutter..why do they wanna be Martyrs?
by Witness 007 ina couple years ago district convention - a pioneer family with two kids explained how they had ran out of funds and had no dinner...as they turned the corner out witnessing they saw a vegetable truck had spilled some produce in the gutter and so "jehovah provided in our time of need..." i felt like yelling get a job you bum stop starving!!
not encouraging.

I hated hearing experiences like that. Even when I "believed" they made me cringe and I would always think Jehovah did give us brains. Use your damn brain and get a freakin job to get money to eat. Freakin loosers! I really hated hearing the experiences of sisters who were married to an abusive husband (unbelieving of course cuz JW husbands are never abusive) ha who beat the crap out of her everyday, burned her clothes, burned her books, threatened her with the kids and because she took it like a stupid doormat he is now a baptized witness after 40 years of abuse. Woo Hoo!!! I literally wanted to scream at the top of my lungs on those.....

Yep it was forced on me as a 13 year old when my mom became a baptized witness. Yay me. No more cheerleading, birthdays, holidays and had no more association with my friends. I was forced to attend the meetings, go out in service and smile (or get smacked in the face) and hang out with the kids in the hall. Fun times. I just tried to survive from that point on and regrettably got baptized. As an adult I know that I would never choose the JW religion especially with how they view/treat women. I cannot even comprehend how my mom was attracted to the religion. The only thing I can think is that she was vulnerable and was having marital problems with my alcoholic dad.

WT Society's Paranoia Over Spiral Binding of Elder's Textbook - Crazy
by flipper inthis letter was sent as an addendum to the elders regarding their latest elders textbook.
i think you'll find this interesting and also disconcerting as well.. to all bodies of elders.
re: spiral binding of shepherding textbook.

I think this really shows how the org is really a boys club. I have always felt that way. Not just any boys club. To be accepted you must show yourself a company man. That is why they have to "watch" the baptized brothers bind them. In that way they are kind of flattering the non elder baptized brother by making him feel important enough to bind the book and let in to the club but not have full membership. This gives that guy something to aspire to so he too can be part of the almighty penis club I mean er elder body and have the "secret" book. This also shows the blatant sexism within the org. But hey what do I know, I have a vagina that interferes with my thinking ability.
Thank you Mr. Flipper for your kind comments about women. They are much appreciated. Also you too WT Wizard.

I'm not sure how long I can stay married to the Witnesses
by wifeofjw ini don't post often, but i lurk a lot.
i have fonund the information to be helpful and encouraging.. however, i'm not sure how much longer i can take being married to the jw's.. i have a wonderful husband, but he believes everything this cult tells him.
most recently he has decided that because the end is near we don't have to worry about our bills.

Wow to hear that in your husband's congregation the majority of the men don't work but the women do......that is quite unusual in the witness world. They usually don't like their women to be empowered in anyway....weird. Well to let you know willfull non support is a ground to seperate in the cult. You may want to remind him of that......maybe that will bring him to his senses.

Danger JWs, your KH is falling apart in front of your eyes!
by moshe init seems to me that the kh's in many areas have lost the critical mass they need to stay healthy and to expand.
loss of their youth and loss of ministerial servants makes it obvious that these khs are doomed.
maybe not this year, but before this decade is out we will see many closings and subsequent mergers of kh's to the point that it is obvious to jws that they have become a has-been religion.

Born Ins vs Converts
by Red Piller infirst of all, let me say that i do think this excuse of a religion is on a downward spiral, which will only accelerate.. as a born in, i always read comments here about how dedicated and hard-line we are.
most of the born ins (who stayed) develop a casual attitude toward everything.
even if you believe it, hearing about armageddon, constantly, doesn't excite you as much when it's the 1,000th time you've heard it.

Well I can see what you are saying. My mom was a convert and she was fanatical. You can really see that with the older ones who come in. I see your point too that they got to live their life and make their own choices. Then they look down on others. I pointed out to my mom that she got to celebrate holidays and birthdays and that it was HER choice to not do those things anymore but for me it was forced upon. They forget all the things they got to do when they were young and what sacrifices those who are young in the borg have made. I think they forget about that.....alot.
