Well said Scully I find it rather ironic that women's rights are so belittled. @ The Silence so your saying that since Bandontherun left and stood up for herself that solves the problem and we should be okay with women being subserviant and submissive. Well would you say the same for black people standing up for their rights. If I was black and complaining about prejudice would you say so you removed yourself from your dominant white work place, problem solved. Now quit your bitching. Women must stay united if they are going to continue to make advancement. Women are not given rights in the JW religion and you know that as well as anyone. That is a fact and it should disturb you not only as a women but just as a human. Just because I myself have not been a victim of female circumcision does not mean I don't care and will not be proactive to help victims. Just because I have never gone without food does not mean I will turn my back on a starving person. Quit justifying the mistreatment of women in your mind as okay and somehow women are okay with that. YOU ARE WRONG. It is just as wrong as any other social prejudice and nobody should be okay with it or put up with it. It should be just as distrubing as racial prejudice.

Amen Band on the Run. I know exactly what you are saying and agree 100%. What exwhyzee does not understand it that it is more than women being forced to wear skirts all of the time-it is the fact that coupled with constantly being told you are "weaker" and that you are to be a "helper" and that you are to be "submissive". Tie that with enforcing some stupid outdated dress code and it takes away women's dignity. In the witness religion women are not viewed as equal and keeping sisters in dresses/skirts enforces the sex differences so we can tell "who wears the pants" in the stupid JW religion. It caters to male egos big time. Show me one time where the society came outright and said "Men and women are equal" or how about this in articles where it is refering to women replace it with "spanish people" or "black people" and tell me if it is not prejudice. I too do not understand why JW women put up with this crap. Your right, they need to grow a backbone. I too always intimidated JW men. They just didn't get me. My husband and I always joked that he would be made an elder if I just quit being so vocal, wore only floral print dresses/skirts with no shape and showed up at the hall with a blackeye and walked 10 steps behind him that he would so be made an elder. Well, screw that.

"the wife should have deep respect for her husband" (Eph 5:33)
by Wonderment indoes anyone here think this command still applies in force today as it did 2000 years ago?.

First of all I think that a wife should respect her husband and that a husband should respect his wife. It goes both ways. However, when this was written women were property. They could not own land, have an inheritance or testify in court. So at that time a man did not have to respect his wife and for the most part it is obvious that women were not respected. At that time it was not even a concept to respect women or that women would want to be respected. Heck, God HAD TO TELL Abraham to listen to Sarah. That is why it is only emphasized a man should love his wife or cherish her. I think it would not be so offensive if it read something to the effect that husbands and wives should respect each other. I have always had a problem with the scriptures always stressing the wife should have respect for her husband and that a husband should love his wife? I am a woman and I would rather be respected than loved. You don't have to like me or love me but you damn well better respect me!

Why do Jehovahs Witnesses send their mentally ill door to door?
by life is to short inthis has been a question i have asked over and over even when i was a very devout jw.
please do not get me wrong in thinking that i am trying to be mean or cruel or unkind to those who have mental illness, that is not in the least where i am going with this.
what i mean is i think it is cruel to send them door to door, it puts way to much stress on them and it looks bad for the name jehovah.. it seemed that in every hall i have ever been in there were some people who were extremely mentally ill. there have always been some in every hall who were schizophrenics or suffered major depression, or other forms of mental illness.

Any Tourettes syndrome in your congregation?
by fade_away ina huge number of jws have mental illnesses.
i knew someone with a schizophrenic disorder and he would occasionally forget/refuse to take his pills which made for some very embarassing moments at the meetings and on service.
he would come to our house claiming he is jesus christ in the flesh and would get upset with anyone that didn't believe him.

Molested in 53 another JW Casualty
by exwhyzee ini have a relative who is now about 73 is a really cool, smart old guy a paul newman look alike who has led an interesting and successful life, traveled the world and raised a large family.
he was raised as a witness by his mother whose husband left the family when she became a witness.
many of his siblings and relatives have gone on to be circuit overseers, gilead grads and bethelites but he left the truth when he was in his teens.

Was there anything different about you that helped you escape the WT?
by Giordano infor me i know it was because i was a reader.. i began reading books at the age of 13, this was in the 1950's.
because there were some serious family problems i had two escapes i could count on reading and associating with my friends at the kingdom hall.. as i devoured steinbeck, hemingway, wolf etc.
my world view expanded....it had to.

I am a very strong willed person and I have always been able to think "full circle". I am very objective. In the back of my mind I knew something wasn't right. I couldn't stand the duplicity in the org. I also did not like the view on women and found it highly offensive at 13 yrs of age when I was forced to attend the meetings.

Like many others the lack of love, the blood doctrine, the politics in the KH and I also did not like not being able to make any decisions for myself.
