Yeah, that was my fantasy - to live in paradise with a pet monkey. Maybe Agonus is right and it'll still happen. Maybe not. All I know for sure is that I have the HERE AND NOW so I'm taking the opportunity to live life to the fullest extent possible and to be happy.

What happened to your marriage after you stopped believing?
by JerkhovahsWitless ini know some posters here went through or are going through some painful things right now because of no longer believing when they have a husband / wife that still does.
others were able to free the minds of their spouse.
i'm assuming the latter is a lot more rare.. anyone that wishes to share their story, please do.. i'm looking to pass the info on to someone who doesn't totally believe, but may marry a jw.

"After awhile, she lost respect and fell out of love with me ... we divorced a year later.
... but something happened, she started thinking on her own ... began to read Crisis of Conscience. She submitted a letter of disassociation and hasn't looked back. Her life is much happier now and we remain as friends."
I felt sacolton was extremely mean-spirited and confrontational. I held on to what I thought was "the truth" for as long as I could. I became very defensive and I did lose repect for the way he handled it. I know now that his intentions were honorable...he only wanted me to see what he could see, but the way he went about it was detrimental to the marriage. I felt isolated and alone. I eventually became inactive because I was tired of having tension in the marriage. As I became inactive, I had a rebellious attitude and thought well if I'm not going to be a witness anymore, then I don't have to be moral anymore and I can do whatever the f*ck I want...therefore I looked for love elsewhere. I'm not proud of what I did. I've definitely learned from my mistakes. There are times when I wish I could go back in time and address my unhappy marriage in an appropriate manner with counseling and if things wouldn't work out, then end the marriage in an honorable way. My actions caused ALOT of hurt to ALOT of people. All I can do is try to be the best person I can be from now on.
I am definitely happier since I've left the organization. The more I am away and research on this site, the more I see what a cult it is. I balk at some of the stuff I used to believe...haha. I am glad that sacolton and I are able to remain friends.

Are these things still frowned upon/banned?.
by zzaphod inthinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.
(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).

"Majoring on the Minors"
You couldn't even say "Bless you" to someone who sneezed...now I say it all the time!

District Convention Mischief?
by jws indoes anybody have a list of convention dates and a hi-res scan of a convention badge?.
i remember all of those talks about behaving at assemblies and all of those talks about setting a good example.. .
what if people were to go to an assembly, looking exactly like a jw, but behaving like a jw could never get away with?.

by digderidoo injust wanted to post here to say i am now 1 year sober.
funny thing is i don't miss drink at all, it took a 3 or 4 months of hard work about 18 months ago and have not looked back since.. this is my first thread about the aa, posted january 2008.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/150354/1/went-to-aa-meeting-last-night.
i would encourage anyone who thinks they may have a problem to get help, it is out there.. since i have become sober i am now doing a law degree, took up scuba diving, got my kids involved in snorkelling, scuba, horse riding and shooting.

Congratulations! That is wonderful to hear.
I went to my first AA meeting today with my sister. She's a recovering alcoholic and recovering JW...she said that AA helped her fill in her spirituality gap once she left the organization and thought it would help me too. It was interesting to hear what everyone had to say about their own personal stories. I think I'll go to another one.

I sent in my letter yesterday and it was very liberating. They should have received it today. I edited it to be more professional and to the point. After I mailed it, my hubby and me went to celebrate at a local mexican restaurant that makes the BEST Long Island Iced Teas. Got a good buzz and walked over to the movie theater to watch "Drag Me to Hell" - which was a pretty silly movie, but silly enough that you had to laugh at it more than be scared.
I told my dad last night that I sent my letter in. He said that he didn't think I would do it, but that it was my business and I told him that I am still me, but that I just choose not to be a witness anymore. I haven't been able to talk to my mom personally, but I sent her an email.
Now that I have free time, I have been thinking about taking some belly dancing lessons. It's something I have always wanted to do. I've gone to a Buddhist seminar/vegetarian dinner with my sister. It was interesting and the people were very nice. I'll probably go back with her again. I like the meditation part. I have some yoga dvds that I am going to start practicing to help with inner peace and exercise.

Thanks for all of your kind words and support.
The only reason I was going to include a copy of my license is becuase when my hubby mailed in his letter, the PO asked me if I actually saw him sign it and send it in, "because anyone can send in a letter and make it appear that it is coming from another person". I thought if I sent a copy of my license, they would see it is from me and maybe not bother me about it.
As for the consequences...I never had any real friends at the KH so it's not like I have a lot of people that I care about that will be shunning me. Even when my hubby and I were both in, we'd try to invite people to do stuff with us, but it seemed like no one would make time. It felt like we were trying to "reach out", you know the old saying that you got to be a friend to make a friend.
There was only one family that kinda took me in after my hubby left. I will miss them and their girls, but that's about it.My parents are witnesses, but not really hard core. My sis is df'd and living an alternative lifestyle according to JW's, but my parents will still talk to her. My dad says that he "can't just throw her away". So I figure my parents will still talk to me, but they definitely don't come to visit as often as they used to. Same thing with my brothers, they are both in and even though they know I don't go anymore, they still talk to me on occasion. I dunno, if they decide they want to let a bunch of mindless drones tell them not to associate with me, then that's their perogative. Everyone has a right to believe what they want ....
*music swells*
And as for me, determined I shall be, to walk away from this and to live my life freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
