I remember being given a stern look by the Dub conducting the book study the first night I attended for pointing that out to him when I was asked why I didn't answer any of the questions- why answer when it's already written in the paragraph? no thinking required! actually I used to think the question breaks where to make sure you were paying attention and to catch up if you were just pretending to listen! lol

In your own thoughts.....
by JWinprotest indon't you just love watchtower study questions that start by saying "in your own thoughts....." or "how do you feel about....", and then they still give you the answer in the paragraph, and the audience of course always gives back the approved answer from the magazine rather than expressing their own thoughts.
this used to irk me as a kid as well..

just out of curiousity... did anyone actually check the website I posted earlier??? I'm not a christian, but this site 'has' done the research, it 'has' checked the facts! The NWT has been measured by "real" scholars (the kind with PHD's) and has been found in ERROR!
Reniaa- You are disturbing my inner peace with your ignorence!

There were 3 things I could just not accept from the WTB and it stopped me from becomming a JW- 1). I am a member of PFLAG (Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) it just wouldn't be 'paradise without Aunty Johnny! 2). The whole 'shunning thing', and as obserd as it sounds 3). the whole having to wear a scarf or hat if I was going to pray out loud/preach infront of a baptised male- that was just ridiculous!
Do I need therapy to "make me a JW"? LOLOLOLOLOL just not possible!

Do You Believe In "God"?
by minimus ini know many people simply think that believing in a "god" is simply ridiculous.
i don't.
i can't necessarily "prove" that god cares, or that god exists but i'll tell you what---when something awful happens i do pray to god and hope for the best..

As I deist I do 99% believe there is a God ( I reserve the last 1% as I am only human and a tad reluctant to say anything is 100% set in stone). I dont believe that God has a personal name or even requires one, is either male or female, interacts with us via prophets or messangers/angels, or is the 'spirit being/3headedthingy/joho/yehoo written about in the bible. I believe I am closer and yet still far away from finding "the truth"- Iam a seeker that made it through the laberinth of religious doctrine to come out the other end wiser, still a bit sore (I was a nicer person before I got the religion bug), but I am now more at peace within myself than I have felt in years. I will admit that giving up the illusion of control is proving to be difficult at times but instead of praying I meditate to commune with god- no words, just emotion.
Even though I do not believe that Jesus was the god/son of god that the bible says he was/is... if he did say most of what was written in the NT then he was right- to understand god we need to be as babes, admit to our true nature, be humble and approch everything with our eyes open as we are but sheep amoung the wolves. Seek and you will find, keep knocking and the door will eventually open.
Here is one from me- if God is love and love is a gift, then this is a gift worth sharing!

Ok Reniaa- in the NWT in Acts- when Stephen was crying out to "god" to be saved he called on Jehovah, but if you read the 'same' passages from your NIV- it will be quite apparent that he was crying out to Jesus! My point here is simple- the name Jehovah does not and was not meant to appear in any of the christian 'greek' scriptures! there was no great apostey (wait are you a JW or a Mormon? lol), the name was not left out by accident/on purpose by 'Satan & his Apostates'! and the new testiment did not need a restoration of the divine name because it was not present in it in the first place!!! ( by the way, the bible gods name was more likely to be pronounced Yahweh in Hebrew- Not Jehovah, so you can smeg off with the whole "but it's pronounced differently all over the world" crap, because if the real God had a name that needed to be spoken it would be universal in nature/unchanging regardless of the language you speak! ).

Why is the US so afraid of Social Health Care?
by eyeslice ini just don't get why the us is so afraid of social health care, and is so opposed to the canadian and british models.
the plain fact is that there are far more americans without access to health care than the combined populations of sweden, norway, denmark and finland.. a measure of the maturity of any society has to be how it sees fit to re-apportion its wealth.. we are quick to criticise african leaders who line their own pockets but leave the masses in poverty but cannot see that blindly following capitalist principles is much the same.
if we live in a wealthy society then part of that wealth has to be put back into society as a whole.. .

For the price of 9 Aussie stamps (at 55cents each) I can buy (using my low income health care card- provided by the Oz Gov) my son's asthma puffers for the month $4:50 and still have change left to buy a pack of gum! I may not 'trust' Mr Rudd personally (hes got them shifty eyes), but I trust the system and it is there to serve the people- thats why they call these guys 'public servants'.
