Hey Jonathanconway, welcome to the forum.
Great sugestion- if they did publish everthing online from their library it expose A LOT! perhaps a few 'still ins' or 'still stuck ins' should ask this question at the next meeting
i've noticed that they have a small selection of articles online.. however the majority of their stuff is only accessible through either the watchtower cdrom or dead trees.. has anyone yet asked them about putting their entire library online?.
if their aim is to "spead the good news", then what possible reason could there be for not making the content publicly accessible?.
since they already have it in electronic form (i believe the content is already in html format on the cd), the cost of doing this would be minimal, and it would probably make their website rank better in google.. of course, the flip-side is that this would allow others to link to their content and discuss it openly and, anonymously, which might expose them to much more criticism than they've ever experienced before.. but i'm wondering what their excuse would be if someone asked them "why not"?.

i when to many 'meetings' at the kh as a study, and i also watched the dvd the wtbts use to premote their no blood propaganda, but i dont remember anything being said about how legal it is to refuse blood for minors in our own country!
in australia their are laws in place to protect children from the 'religious claims' of their parents in life threatening situations.... are there lwas like this where you live???.
(i) minors.
I have started this tread on here as the topic of whether or not parents should have the right to make 'religious decisions' on behalf of their children has become a rather heated debate on other forum I frequent. I know how stronge the views are about the 'blood' issues on this forum and would just like to know if there are LAWS that prevent parents from rufusing treatments (eg- blood transfusions) in other countrys.....

(i) Minors
In all Australian jurisdictions, there is legislation which permits particular forms of treatment for minors without parental consent[2]. In Western Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory blood transfusions may be given without parental consent if the child is in danger of death without the treatment[3]. In Tasmania, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory two doctors must agree that it is impracticable to delay the transfusion as the child may die without it but in Western Australia and Queensland, it is sufficient that the blood transfusion is necessary to preserve the life of the child and no second opinion is required[4].
In the Northern Territory, the Emergency Medical Operations Act 1973 (NT): ss. 2 and 3 authorises an emergency operation (which includes a blood transfusion) on a child without parental consent if it is not reasonably practicable to delay the operation until parental consent is obtained and teo doctors believe that the patient is in danger of dying or of sufferring a serious permianent disability. In South Australia, the Consent to Medical and Dental Procedures Act 1985 (SA): ss. 6(2), (3), (5), (6) dispenses with the need for consent if the emergency procedure is required to meet an imminent risk to the life or health of the child although a second opinion should be taken unless this is not reasonably practicable. In New South Wales, the Children (Care and Protection) Act 1987 (NSW): s. 20A dispenses with the consent requirement if the treatment is necessary to save the life of the child or prevent serious damage to his/her health.
Skene states that legislation authorising doctors to give children blood transfusions to save the child's life (even if parents object) was introduced after a number of cases in which parents who were Jehovah's Witnesses refused permission for blood transfusions for their children when doctors felt it was necessary to save life[5]. Skene, by way of example, refers to the early decision of Jehu's Case (unreported decision of Supreme Court of Victoria, March 1960) where a man was convicted of manslaughter of his child as he refused permission for a blood transfusion principally because of his religious belief[6]. Skene adds that there were a number of other old cases where parents were found criminally liable for refusing or failing to seek treatment for a sick child on religious grounds but does not specify these[7]. Thus, it appears that the legislation was passed not only to protect the lives and health of children by ensuring they receive necessary emergency treatment regardless of parental consent but also to protect parents from criminal liability by allowing doctors to intervene against parental wishes when necessary.
i posted most of this on another thread but i want this to stand alone so i can refer back to it in the future.
one of our resident apologists has given her response on this thread.
you can judge the relative worth of her response for yourself.. "by their fruit you will recognize them.
To me at first, the WTBTS looked like a nice big juicey Apple, first bite tasted sweet, second bite was just as good, but on the third bite I copped a mouth full of dirty maggots mabey i should have gone for the lollie pop I found in the gutter, washed the dirt off and had that instead of what seemed like a healther alternative!
i've just watched all 3 parts of francis ford coppola's epic godfather once again.
it is a superb achievement on many levels.
each viewing reveals something new and fresh.. i recall, as a good jw at the time, not seeing it when released as it was not certified as 'suitable' given the content for jws.
3.# The Green Mile- with Tom Hanks,
2.# The Color Purple- with Woopie Goldburg and Oprah.
1.#The Power of One- my personal favorite, with Morgan Freeman.
4.#The Hicthikers Guide to the Galaxy- the movie, but I like the series too!
5.#The Life of Brian- by Monty Python!!! actually anything done by these guys is GREAT!.
6.#Red Dwarf- not a movie but a UK classic tv series they should make a movie out of!
i was about 4 or 5 years old.
they must of been talking about prejudice in the meeting or something.
that's when i first learned about it.
I almost coverted as an adult, not that long ago, and I can still remeber exactly what it was that 'sparked my light bulb'. I was reading in a WT book that Abraham knew and used the name Jehovah- but I was reading and do a study on the exodus at the same time (this is how I learn- I cross reference back and forth between sujects- ALONE), I came across a passage that clearly stated that even Moses was unawear of 'god's name', that jehovah (or Iam) was known by this name to Isral or the Egyptians at that time, Moses asked for the name and was the first to make the god of Isral known to pharoh by this name- so my first thought was, how in hell did Abraham 'know' god by this name if even Jehovah had not told 'his' name or made himself known by that name untill the exodus I smelled a rat- I got online for the first time in 12 months to check 'other' sorces of information- I resigned myself from any further study or association with the WTBTS less than 3 weeks later. I have been left alone by the local cong since... they did tell me that I wouldn't be shunned as an apostate as I was not baptised- but I have had sisters from the KH cross the street to avoid saying a casual hello to me (that would lead to a converstaion and conversations lead to friendships forming... Yeah I read that shit on how to treat a DF'd person too just before I left!)
this is from the la times regarding the egg donor that slashed the throats of her two daughters on wednesday (sept. 2nd).
the third one escaped death because she was not in the home.
however, that is not the point i found interesting, rather it was this:.
The first half of this artical read just like a watchtower- I was almost expecting questions at the bottom of the page!
What happen to and within this family is just terrible! but the fact that the writter of this artical used this sad story as a plug for the WTBTS makes me sick and angry!
come on, i know you're out there.
we have kh's here, so there's gotta be a few ex-dubs from the nt lurking here...
I've lived all over the east coast of Oz, my mother has the 'walk about' gene! I think I inherited it also, but I go for holidays insteading moveing house from state to state! My husband and I have been talking about going back to Katherine for a long holiday but are just waiting for the oppertunity to do it. The only thing I dont miss about that place was all the tourists plus some of the locals! The major Jim Forscott (spelling??) greeted me on my first day in town and was surprised to find out that Iam his cousin's grandaughter- aparently Iam related to half the population there (Tapps etc...), small world hey?
in her book, introduction to christianity, mary jo weaver says this:.
"some christians think that jesus was so clearly the messiah that no one could fail to recognize him as such...... christians who see jews as a 'problem' might be surprised to learn that jesus has been a continual puzzle for the jews.
medieval jews tended to picture jesus as an apostate jew, a man who had lost his faith; 19th century jewish scholars had an image of jesus as a great ethical teacher.
I didn't miss the point of 'the gospel message' passwordprotected- the message that Jesus preached was simple- love god, love thy neighbor... The Dali Lama also preaches such a message today... I recognise both as being wise and spiritual teaches of sorts, both have lived lives worthy of admiration and concideration. For me being a deist means I have the privaledge of not being restricted to just one doctrine/dogma/teaching/gospel/truth... I can draw inspiration from as many different writings, books, pictures, natural surroundings and people as I wish on my personal journy to enlightenment.
If it is a 'sin' to seek true enlightenment and I had to leave blind faith and revealed religion behind me to become a wiser person, then I am as guilty as all hell and need to spanked imediatly! but I do not feel that asking questions and paying close attention to all the facts is a crime! I am simply as the Christians say- "making sure of all things" and as the buddists say- "be careful, only a fool would test the water with both feet!".
.
from memory a newspaper article reported on this some years ago - it involved the jw trespassing on private property, being knocked over by a goat, the homeowner being sued and having to pay damages to the jw.. initially as the jw sued his congregation, the wts defended the kh and itself with the statement that jw's are not required to go out in field service and that the ministry work is purely voluntary.... can anyone point me to a link?.
.
I cant help you, but if you can remember the name of the newspaper- writing to them and asking for a copy of the artical cant hurt, also try your local library- most libraries in Australia keep old newspapers and articals on file....
I remember reading about two young mormon boys being feed hash cookies by a guy in Wodonga VIC about 10 years ago (I was living there at the time but it was NOT me I swear!lol)- Im still laughing about it
