Wow, Witness007... your up late (9:52pm au), That account of the Midianites still makes me feel sick... it's strange to me how I never noticed this story the first 2 times I read the bible- It wasn't untill I read it as a Deist that it this story made way too much sense to me!!!

Iraelites Massacre Midianites but save only the girl Vigins for themselves....sick!
by Witness 007 innumbers 25: 6-16 the women of moab commit immorality with the israelite men.....only one midianite woman made the same mistake with a chieftain of israel, so jehovah orders then to destroy the whole nation and take everthing they own.
chapter 31 explains how they took all the spoils and livestock and killed everyone except children and fit women.
"meek" moses is furious and tells them to kill all the women and young boys and only keep the virgin girls for themselves!

Even if not for most ... does being a JW work for some?

Are not those with a flawed plan better than those with none at all ?
I think the way to hell is always paved with good intensions!LOL
But on the hand- if it wasnt all BS, and they actually 'practised what they preached' (refering to the golden rule not the extra crap!), then they may just be on to something but I like my first thought better.

Does any other religion have an architectural symbol as sort of a logo?
by JWoods ini am, of course, talking about the famous "watchtower" image.
they even built one on top of one of their buildings.... just wondering - does any other religion have some architectural symbol which they use as a sign of their belief?.
of course, there are crosses and the ancient egyptians had the pyramids (as did some early american primatives) -.

This is just a couple of logos I have seen used to promote Deism as a religion of sorts, plenty of versions of the pyramid one in circulation - Iam still a bit iffy about useing Pyramids and buildings as symbols for a belief personally- but Iam not superstitious person, 666 is just another to me

Tower Of Babel
by Blue Grass innote:this was a post i made on another thread but i felt it was off topic so i giving it it's own thread.. someone(who i can't remember) on a thread(which i can't remember) said the tower of babel story is proven false because some languages evolved from others and thus that was another strike against the bible as being fiction.
however this person doesn't realize that there are languages on this earth that has absolutely no relation whatsoever such as chinese-english, spanish-arabic, greek-xhosa, etc.
not to mention all of the ancient languages that are now extinct due to invading countries forcing their own language on other countries.

Really, There Is A Lot To Learn About Your Faith
by AllTimeJeff inin ak - jeffs thread "did jesus ever claim to be the messiah", narkissos said the following that i think, and have learned, is rather profound:.
a better approach to this discussion might start with questioning the presupposition that there was one concept of "messiahship" common to all or even most 1st-century ad jews.. the idea is, we assume that the faith and religion we have now, is as it was way back then... clearly, it isn't.. i haven't devoted a great deal of my time to this subject, but i have read enough to realize that there is a lot more to the history of our churches and religions then we think.
jw history is pretty easy, as they started in the late 19th century.

On point one, I guess there could be an infinite digression of cause and effect events, though this seems to have been abandoned by modern discoveries in astrophysics. Science seems to agree that there was a beginning to the universe. From my point of view, God claims to have power over time....having invented it. Hence, he exists outside of time...and thus is self existing. There was nothing before God because "before" was one of his creations.
No Two scientist will agree 100% with this statement- fact!
On point two. The fine tuning of the universe makes your alternate possibility quite deep into the realm of the impossible. Whoever was intelligent enough to fine tune the universe is also capable of "helping" ; or curing may be a better word to my way of thinking.
If it was so carefully fine tuned as you are sugesting- why do we need help/a cure again?
On point three....well that is addressed by Christianity.
In YOUR OPINION!!!

To understand the Bible, must we "Read between the lines?"
by garyneal inthis post goes out to any active jehovah's witnesses who are either actively engaged in or simply lurking the topics on this web site.
my wife is a jehovah's witness who is currently an unbaptized publisher hoping (as she stated as her goal) to become baptized.
needless to say, i am not and we go to different churches (hers is the kingdom hall and mine is a small community church).. anyway, this past sunday (september 7, 2009) one of the brothers gave a talk about how some people pick a church based on the fact that it seems to "feel good to them" rather than base it on whether or not they truly teach the bible.

Why do they use these books and mags at their meetings to study from, instead of using just the bible???- cause they cant brain wash us that way! and they wouldn't make any money off selling just one book!
