Hi Vienna, welcome to the board. How exactly do you mean believe in God and not active in anything, though? Do you mean being involved in an institutional organized religion? There has been a few discussions on this recently, and one of the difficulties is that one's understanding of God can change. However, I think there are many who still have some kind of spiritual life.

Mind machines, bio/neurofeedback etc.
by Introspection inthis is probably a long shot, but has anyone used such devices?
it used to be a hobby of mine, and i still own a number of different gadgets as well as various psycho-acoustic recordings.
in fact, there's a good chance you have one of these tapes/cds if you've ever bought a meditation or even relaxation recording.

This is probably a long shot, but has anyone used such devices? It used to be a hobby of mine, and I still own a number of different gadgets as well as various psycho-acoustic recordings. In fact, there's a good chance you have one of these tapes/CDs if you've ever bought a meditation or even relaxation recording. One technique is rather simple, it is called binaural beats and it simply employs two tones of slightly different frequencies by using headphones and the difference entrains your brainwave activity and thus induces relaxation. (for example, 100 Hz in one ear and 105 Hz in the other entrains you to 5 Hz) I think it's very useful and though I feel like I don't have enough time to use them these days, (average session is 30 minutes, but could be shorter) I bet if I used it regularly I would see some benefits even today. It's really just a good way to relax, and there's no need for concerns like being programmed with subliminal messages. (there isn't much evidence that those work in the way of whispered statements anyway) Sound interesting to anyone?

Putting aside religion and the objective world for a moment, I find it interesting to note that there are individuals who are capable of controlling what are normally considered involuntary physiological processes. A mental parallel might be the ability to overcome conditioned thinking patterns. It seems to me such subjective mastery would put you in a better position to see the world more objectively. After all, why would you want to consciously fool yourself, if there is such a thing?

Forgiveness
by Introspection inthis quote could have gone in another forum, but i'm hoping you can add a quote from caroline myss, stephen... "without forgiveness human society and existence are impossible.
we are forever hurting one another, forever stepping on one another's toes.
so we have to forgive and be forgiven or else we cannot go on living full lives.

This seems to be a principle that applies to a lot of things. It reminds me of this Zen quote:
Realization
Neither general nor specific
Is effort without desireIn a way it is being process rather than goal oriented, but what it implies is being in the present moment, focused on what needs to be done now rather than the ultimate goal, which is often what the desire is attached to. It is also not unlike what Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi calls flow. I think we all experience this with things we like to do, often you hear people say that they enjoy a certain hobby or even their job, and time flies when you're having fun. If we can go beyond preference, then it follows that we can be as successful in other areas of life as well.
As I once said to someone in deep emotional crisis, perhaps a very effective method to help you move toward forgiveness and release is to cease making that your goal.

Has anyone felt like leaving God altogether?
by lookingnow22 ini know that the answer is yes, but it would help me to hear your sentiments on this.
.
after you decided that the wbts, and thus jw's were not god's chosen earthly organization did you feel like you wanted to leave and forget god altogether?.

Hi Kes,
While I wouldn't contest that you or anybody else knows God to some extent or has a relationship with God, it seems to me nobody would claim to know everything about God, since that would constitute knowing everything God knows right?
I would take issue with your statement about God made manifest and the world being frightened though. First of all, you referred to God as him. I realize the bible describes God as father, but ask yourself this: Do you think of God as a male person? Can that really be accurate, or isn't it a conception of God? Secondly, the point about fear may work from the perspective of both the scriptures saying that fear throws love outside and God being love, he that has not love has not come to know God because God is love. But if you define the world as those who do not believe in a personal God, I think you'll find a potential contradiction. Is it really necessary for someone who believes God as a male father figure to be free from fear, at any time? To me it's simple, someone who is really "full of" love has no fear because they're not so concerned about themselves or their salvation. Will God really magically strike such a one with sudden fright because they don't have the above idea in mind?

Who Was Cain Afraid of?
by patio34 inwhen god banished cain, why was he in fear of his life when there was only he and his family on the earth?
after all, how many could there have been and is it logical to think they were everywhere else--anywhere else but where cain and his family lived?
so, who was he afraid of that would take his life?.

Prophetess
by learning inhi!
could you tell me about the jehovah's witness belief in a prophetess?
thanks!
-
Introspection
Well, they do believe in atleast one prophetess from the bible, can't recall the name right now but not that it gets a lot of attention. These days they don't really believe there are any prophets, just their interpretation of existing bible prophecies.
