Well it occurs to me being part of a tribe can be a good thing, for support etc.. But I suppose the point is it isn't the only thing. I was hoping to hear something by the good Dr. Myss on this subject.

Intro's quote-o-rama
by Introspection ini guess i've been inspired by stephen's quote threads, so i'm going to start one myself.. not one particular author here, just whatever i can find:.
q: why do you think that people are so protective of their egos?
why is it so hard to let go of one's ego?.

I have learned that there are four ways to solve problems: remove yourself, remove the relationship, remove the other person, or ask what love could do in this situation. And if you look at the fourth solution, which I try to do in my life, then you find healthier and more interesting solutions. It's really about finding your way of loving the world. It isn't somebody else telling you to be a plumber, doctor, mother or violinist. You choose your way of loving the world and go do it. And since almost every occupation gets you to meet people who aren't happy, you have an opportunity to change the world and improve it. So when you meet people, bring them some joy, make fun of the craziness of life. Children with illness don't say, "I could be dead in a year." They say, "Can I have some fun today? Can I go out today?"

Given recent events, perhaps it is time to discuss the tribal mentality Stephen..

new exJWs
by AuSet inthis is just a message for anyone who is newly df'd, da'd, or otherwise inactive...also to anyone who is in contact with those exjws who may not be in the best mental state right now.
the events which occured yesterday were very frightening, especially to those whose minds are still infiltrated with wtbts type thinking.
there are many jws out there who currently think this could be the start of the great tribulation.

Thanks for that AuSet. Yes anyone who may have recently left please do talk to someone (ex-JW) who you feel comfortable with, even if it is online.

Would someone please explain to me....
by BobsGirl ini have not been posting here for long and i am trying to get a "feel" for the makup of the group.
i thought about telling my story in the personal experiances area but chickened out.
i have noticed that the majority of the posters here are xjw's but there seem to be a few active jw's.

Hi Bobsgirl, I was contacted by the witnesses in my early teens, studied off and on and was baptized when I was 20. I walked away a few years ago, ("inactive") basically got sick of the escapist attitude prevalent among some JWs.
BTW, how about you? Maybe not the full story but a little info like this to get started?

Is it really time to argue religion??
by Introspection init occurs to me that if we're using this tragedy as an opportunity to support our views, maybe we're no better than jws are when they play on people's fears in the preaching work.

Of course, I don't mean that so literally. Let me put it this way: Are we more concerned with the circumstances "proving" some idea or belief of ours, religious or not, or are we more concerned about the actual human suffering out there? I'm not pointing any fingers, but I think that's something that would be worth considering. Because it is easy to point a finger, whether to witnesses or other people, but if someone is more concerned about winning an argument then I'd say some soul searching is called for.

Jay, I certainly believe that applies both ways. People of faith do not need to preach in a time like this. If anything, lets see some good old fashioned, down to earth good works to help our fellow human beings. I certainly think this is something we can agree on.
