  Idolatry....Do the JW's do it?

  now please bear with me on this.

  i came across this information in a book.

  i'm not trying to preach to anyone, but just wanted to share with you all what i learned (and some that i already knew).

  Yep. Funny enough, I actually thought of this when I was still a witness with the whole energy is matter stuff, though I didn't know much else. But yes I've come to the same conclusion, people tend to stick to their ideas about God more than God, it's about faith in what you think (your *beliefs* etc) rather than faith in God. A person that has no theology can have more faith in God than someone with elaborate ideas of what they think God is.

  I think there's a more fundamental principle involved here, which is that people tend to focus on and stick to certain things to the exclusion of others. (which can be totally fictional and exist only in their mind) Now that's fine, in practical everyday life you have to be selective with your attention. But frankly it's just a matter of being narrow minded, if you don't consider new ideas as is the case with most JWs pretty soon your ability to think starts to collapse too. How many of us have seen how JWs just shut down when they can't answer what is basically a simple, logical question?

  I think there's a common denominator at work here. Whether we're talking about an excess of food, tobacco or whatever, it seems to me it's all a matter of conditioned response. Yes all other things being equal it may not be just a behavioral issue for some people, but considering the fact that the WTS basically conditions people to behave a certain way I think it's very significant. Instead of having a certain amount of awareness of your own behavior, if you tend to cruise on programming of some sort things are likely to get out of control.

  I don't understand the logic of religion

  if you ask a jw why does god allow suffering, more than likely you'll get the response that god has allowed satan and mankind to follow their own course to prove that only god has the right to govern over man.

  for a long time i accepted that answer as being correct and i never even took the time to really think about what that meant.

  now however when i reason on that logic i realize that it does'nt make sense.

  celebrating the death of Jesus

  am i the only one bothered by the way the jw's refer to the memorial as a celebration of the death of jesus?.

  i understand that jesus said to keep the tradition of the last meal, but should it be referred to as a celebration?

  this should be a solemn occasion and not one we would look forward to celebrating.

  What is your fondest/or not memory of cargroup ...

  the compassionate toliet thread brought this frightening memory to mind.... the field service assignments!.

  did you all have the same feeling of dread of being stuck with a particular person.. knowing that you would have to listen to their dribble throughout the day.. or listening to that poor sister's sinus condition where she would make that, for lack of a better way to describe it, hock-a-luegy sound with her nasal passages every 10 minutes.

  then lets not forget the positive side.. how you wished with glee, and finally got to work with the car group that would goof off half of the day and the other day go to not-at-homes that would definitely still be not-at-homes.. *************************************.

  Ex JW Support Group - any suggestions?

  i just thought i'd put this to the multitude and invite your suggestions or some feedback, as i am thinking about forming a support group for ex jw people in my area.

  my motive is based on my own experience when exiting the borg...and how isolated and lonely i felt when i left.

  i was lucky enough to have one family member who had left the borg a few years before me.

  Exercise support group

  we have had some posts concerning body size, build and weight and it seems to be an issue that concerns many of us.

  well ok i am tired of complaining about feeling out of shape and i am finally ready to do something about it.

  i started jogging tonight not a whole lot (1 1/2 miles in a jog/walk combo).

  Hungry, two things that stand out are the dairy intake and shrimp. Even if it is skim milk I would cut down on it. Now do you have any issues with energy? (not enough) Also do you know what form the minerals are in and how much there is in the multiple you take? Even if it's "chelated" it's nice but isn't specific, you'll want to look for words like citrate, gluconate and what have you, if it indicates that. Email me if you want to know more.

  I remember watching footage of the hearings on the Waco, TX thing with the Branch Davidians and this one ex-Delta Force big shot guy said they (the gubment guys) basically had an "oh sh*t" contingency. Atleast it's more intelligent than that. Whether it's good or bad, who knows.
