ATTN: JW'S...WHERE IS YOUR LOVE???????

where is the love that the societyclaims is amongst it's people?

i began studying january 2001. i had met a jw man that i truly fell in love with and found that i would at least look into the religion to see if it was for me.

i began studying with his sister, till she consciously no longer felt that she could continue studying with me, due to the fact that she did not approve of her brother dating me, since i was not a jw.

Jacqueline, I'm afraid I'm no longer a JW, though being neither disfellowshipped nor disassociated, I guess I can play one.. Actually I've always been playing one, I just know that now.

The thing is, truth and love has to come together. The problem with the JW mindset is that they think the truth is the stuff they have in their head, but what I mean by truth is simply what's around you - this computer you're looking at, your friends and those close to you - concrete realities nobody would argue with.

When you love out of an idea, especially whacked out ideas - then all you really love is ideas. When you just look at what's true, a friend, a flower or whatever, the love arises out of NATURAL AFFECTION - (note the verbiage straight from the NWT) not some ideas you have in your head. And just as you did, Jacqueline, the love translated into real actions. The sad thing is, when someone on the receiving end is not in truth, they can't appreciate it. You, however, have found a love in your life and other people who love you, even if they are just people who talk with you through a message board on the internet. Notwithstanding a bit of peer pressure on the part of local elders, I would say you are very lucky. You know what's important, but those men are still infatuated with an organization that has obviously been devoid of love for some time.

ok, with all this talk about beliefs and whatnot i thought this might be a good post.. i have addressed it before but i think i can make it clearer now.. it kind of comes down to this: there's no such thing as a true thoughts, but all thoughts are real.

all thoughts are real simply in that you're having the thoughts - even if it's not true, it is true that you are having a thought.

Oh yeah, I think I left out this rather significant point: Basically, what happens is your thoughts, your mind becomes self aware. It isn't the center of the universe anymore.

That being said, I think the third alternative, at least for me, is to acknowledge that that is an interesting question. However, I am not prepared to answer it just yet. But, thank you very much for asking.

I meditate w this goal, at times. I try to find the real me, my true desires. Have you observed the one who looks? Does it exist? Is it the same as 'god'? Sorry if this is off topic, but these are questions that i have been wondering about.

Good answers. This kind of question really isn't meant to be answered, because then you've gone back to your thoughts haven't you? You might say the answer does not come through language or concepts, it's rather like asking for an apple and someone giving you one.

Satan, the thing is the search itself leads you farther away from it, because you are really looking for yourself aren't you? The question comes from that which you are seeking, so you really need to just go backwards. It's all too easy to conceptualize this and then it becomes a thought looking for a thought, because if you "search" you already have some preconceived notion about it. There is no "other" thing to look at, just the looking.

Ok, with all this talk about beliefs and whatnot I thought this might be a good post.. I have addressed it before but I think I can make it clearer now.

It kind of comes down to this: There's no such thing as a true thoughts, but all thoughts are real. All thoughts are real simply in that you're having the thoughts - even if it's not true, it is true that you are having a thought. But no thoughts are real in that none of the thoughts are the things you're thinking about, they are only processes that are going on in your head! I mean, it would be like if you have a bunch of model airplanes and you thinking you can take a squadron of F-16's and go fight - that would be silly. Your thoughts are only models for reality.

Unfortunately this is a mistake most people make with religion, and even relationships. As nice as the thoughts or even feelings are, they are simply stuff that's going on in your mind and body. I find it sad when someone who thinks they know a person project their idea(l) on to them, whereas it is only how they think of and feel about him or her. This applies to God too, or any thing really. It doesn't have to be a bad idea or feeling or even an inaccurate (which is only relatively so) or inappropriate one, but if the mistake is that they think their concept or feeling about them is the real deal, they are only falling in love with their own thought or feeling.

Now in saying this I realize it may be a sad thought for some, (still yours, btw) but the truth is you can really connect with a person intimately, just as you can connect with reality - without conceptualizing about it. You just interact, be a part of it. Thinking can certainly be there too, but in that case it isn't a matter of taking some little bit of information then weaving a big story out of it, whether it's about a person or whatever. At any given time, you are not only thinking but also have other stuff going on inside you and around you - it's just a matter of being open to everything. We say it's good to have an opened mind, but that really can be kind of misleading. What is the mind open to?? More mind? Just stuff other people's mind generate? If those people you open to is just in their own mind then just being open to their mind will only keep you in thought! Even if they have more than just an opened mind, you connecting with them only on that level limits you to the mind only. So having said that, don't think about this too much, or atleast really think if you just want to think - but sooner or later you're gonna do things other than thought.

Hi Out,

Are you saying that using this kind of mental exercise would for example, enable one to believe in the existance of God with out any analitical or other proof. Simply the very strong feeling of knowing?

If you don't mind I'd like to address this, because I think Siddha and I are basically coming from the same place. First of all, it is not an exercise, because exercise would denote effort, and you're not doing anything, you're just taking in how things are, as it is. And not to pick apart the words you're using because as you acknowledged, we are all limited by them - but "enable one to believe" is a rather funny thing to say, wouldn't you say? Besides, believe is just believing, seeing is just seeing - and that's all you're doing. The other part of this is God. It has to be recognized, first of all that God, to most people is just a mental construct, as such it is in the same order of things as all other thoughts and concepts. If you are in fact going to just see what is, what actually exists, then you must forget that thought, or redefine it - but the best way to do that is to just drop your preconceived notions or see that it is just an idea. Most people have this backwards - they project reality with their concepts of God, whereas it should be that reality tells you what God is, and of course its just the word we use to refer to it. Feeling is sort of it, but it's not even that - because if you feel something that still denotes that it is an internal reaction to something else, but all this also points to that it's one or not separate, and also there is a time delay in sensing something and having a feeling arise in you - this stuff is the present moment in time, just right now.

Siegs I'm glad you got a copy. The thing is though, by that same reasoning that it is open to interpretation, you first of all need something to interpret - it makes sense for you to see that thing first then have your own interpretation, rather than reading someone else's interpretation of it. Basically, what it amounts to is he is saying "here, read what I think of it."

Anyways.. This is actually kind of interesting in terms of what we've been talking about, judging and interpreting. There is a quality of being closed when you judge, interpret and conclude - but being open is just open. Of course, being open includes the possibility of being closed, but that's sort of like saying being free to be under mind control..
