One comment I'd like to make though is that if "spiritual oneness" were actually a real thing, then the world would be a whole different place for us to all exist.
It can be, if that's what we want. We can each do our part to contribute to such a unity.

i think not, because an atheist would not believe they would be in heaven/paradise, etc.
Yes.. For that matter, I'd imagine that people who do not believe in anything, aside from God or anything religious would also be unlikely to go that far, because they wouldn't be committed to a certain cause. Of course, normally people wouldn't say that's such a great thing. You may not do anything bad, but you may not do anything good either.
Athiesm is, by its nature, an individually held idea. There can
be no fanatical adherence to this idea, because the concept is
defined, not by its belief, but by its lack of belief.
i have read much discussion about understanding the fanatic muslim terrorists reason's for this attack.
even suggesting that they have a legitimate basis for their hatred of the united states.
even a call for more tolerance toward, this sect of hatred.. yet these same individuals make it very clear that they cannot tolerate jehovah's witnesses.
Does anyone actually know the tenets of Islam? I mean what do they actually believe? Not certain sects, but like the basic premises they would agree on.

Well, perhaps not a SUICIDE hijacker/bomber, but then again does the fact that they still have a sense of self preservation make it any better? People can also believe in something religiously without it being identified as a religion. A belief in God doesn't necessarily mean the person will commit such crimes either, so I don't believe it's so clear cut as one might think.

Thanks Cygnus, that was basically my thought. I think there may be a tendancy for us to play a certain blame game, it is certainly very easy to do that when emotions are running high and we have a sort of tunnel vision, we want to make some sense of what's going on. Perhaps it is easier to think that we can pinpoint one 'thing' such as religion than accept the fact that human beings are capable of such acts, whatever 'cause' you want to attribute to it.
ok, so i am 17 almost 18. i used to have a boyfriend.
we were gonna get married this coming december, but stuff happened and we aren't now.
i had sex with him before marriage, and the bible firmly states to deaden your body memebers, which apparently we did not.

the latest horrible events in ny and washington has rightfully shocked the entire world.
it is a deed that will go down in history as monumental as the holocaust and other atrocities.. the only superpower in the world was powerless and unable to stop a handful of dedicated and fanatic persons from inflicting such a horrific blow to the nation.
they struck right at the financial and military center of the superpower.. in the wake of such an event it is interesting to watch the various comments from the us politicians, the president and military.
Althought prayer typically refers to an external, objective personal God, not everyone who prays believes in such a God. An interesting example is some buddhists who pray, and they do not believe in a subject/object duality.
i'd like to invite everyone to comment on this subject.
