The Lure Of God

in just a few years all of us here will be forgotten, we will be dead and buried.

all our dealings will mean nothing.. ok there may be a few written works flying around for awhile, that some us have taken part in, and maybe a few of us may have been able to effect some changes for the good of some.yet all this can and probably will be reversed in a blink of an eye.some new cult or ruler will arise and start the whole cycle of pain over again.. the earth anyway, as a limited lifespan.

if mankind does not destroy itself, either our sun or some comet will.. so everything will end one day, as if no life ever existed here on earth, no rememberance, no purpose, no nothing.. so does it pay to dwell on the "big picture" of life?.

Sorry guys, but let me share with you a true story. Years ago while I was still a JW, delivering for Dominoe's Pizza I had a nice little moment of inspiration. I came up with the line: "Life is a joke. Most people don't get it yet. Those of us who do aren't laughing, because it's not funny."

Mind you, I laugh at THAT today.

Life is not the joke. I am.

It seems to me that "taking life seriously" needs belief behind it as well. I prefer another approach. To say that I am a joke is not a sign of low self esteem, it is NO self esteem. Sure, I get moody like everybody else. But my friends, in the final analysis I really don't see a "me."

obviously you are working on repetition for emphasis this week in your ministry school - only it wont work here i'm afraid!

Here's my story (I'm new here)....

i am a 4th generation witness (on both sides of the family) and indeed my entire family (save for the few who "fall away" in every family) are jehovah's witnesses.

my dad is an elder, my mom a regular pioneer and my two elder sisters the same.

my younger sister is 17 and still unbaptized, so therefore she is sort of a "black sheep" in our family and "spiritually weak" for not having already "taken the dip in the pool" (however, due to her overall open-minded nature, i am perhaps closest to her).

Radar, "everything is vanity and a striving after wind"?

One thing that comes to mind is that for some, their thinking is not goal oriented. This makes sense to me, because really thinking of the future is kind of like getting ahead of yourself, just as dwelling on the past is holding you back. (I might note too that this is a different view of time itself) I believe that for someone who want to do "good works", in a way you don't want to care - that is to say not care about the results, not identify with that. You just do it, regardless of the possible outcomes. Certainly making no difference in the ultimate "big picture" is one possible outcome, but there are people out there who do it anyway. (I can say try, but I don't believe that's an appropriate word) For people with this kind of integrity I have nothing but the utmost respect.

If you feel tired and worn with such thoughts, it may be some time to/for yourself is needed..

not sure i believe it's actually a jw site but.... what's up with all the changes in the fs since the wtc incident?

what's happened to the jw's caring about people one on one and taking the time to listen and answer questions or just listen to someone?

Well I haven't been to meetings in a long time so I don't know what they're saying, but it sounds like it is really becoming "dead works" huh? Good for you for listening to your heart, people who are more interested in gaining numbers for an organization than the lives of people are the ones with a heart that is "treacherous and desperate."

Integrating emotion and intellect ..

i was thinking about this the other day, and i've basically been taking the attitude of "don't say too much to them, or they'll flip.

" some balance is called for of course, but i think i've been leaning too much to one side, in that my intellect is kind of shoved in the background because i am so worried about hurting people's feelings.

in a way i guess this wouldn't be honest, either.

Well I no longer live with them, so it's not bad really. It just so happens there are maybe 3-4 witness households in my immediate area though. I had dinner with those guys the other week, so I don't think I've been marked in any way. (though I haven't said anything to warrant it anyway) For the most part though, the other ones who lives on my block and around here don't approach me. Actually, I think they just kind of forgot and not think too much about it, I wasn't a "prominent" witness.

Yes it was a Vipassana retreat. I can tell you more about it via email, but the effect was basically a non-dual experience. (I hadn't heard of that expression until later) I think it served to fully process the JW experience, especially since I found this board afterwards. Although I had some knowledge by that time, there is a difference between processing it cognitively and seeing things clearly.. But a change in my view of reality would naturally change the view of JWs and myself.

The place I went to is not very strict in terms of adhering to the program, and also you might do something like a week long retreat. I think that can be good or bad, it all depends on your personality. I know traditional vipassana can be quite rigorous and systematic. But even if you don't stick to the program 100%, (which I didn't) just being in that environment with the silence would help.

Resurrection was to be a true reward for for those who gave their lives freely to G0D and towards society so
they could 'return' ('HaShev') to see what their works achieved in creating the world to come. In other words it was seen as an ideal way to bring justice for those who have sacrificed their lives to better Life for the whole.

One thing about the resurrection confuses me, atleast as taught by the WTS though I don't know how different it can be.. I can understand someone giving their life freely to God, and I remember it is said that God has you in his memory.. But in what sense do "you" return then? If we take it as literally a sleep like state that's fine, but as JWs we're taught that you do not exist, period, so it's not literally like sleep where your body is still functioning at a slower metabolic rate. Would you say that our spirit, the essence, does not die? But if after you die you do not exist, as we were taught as JWs, is that individuality simply a matter of information stored in God's memory?
