as a side note, when I first joined I was this angry little punk rawk, wild child. I've really mellowed out the last couple years. Though I can still get pretty angry sometimes :)
i had a disagreement with xq in chat today, because he was trying to say that jws for the most part disobey the wts and still treat family like family even if they are dfd or quit being witnesses.. i don't feel that is true.
i think that the majority of us on here who no longer are jws have family members who no longer have anything to do with us and shun us.... so i said it would be interesting to take a poll and see how many here are treated just like all the rest of your 'loving family' who is a jw still.......are you treated the same?.
does family shun you for being df'd, da'd or no longer participating?or do they hide and talk to you but only when other active jws can't see?
My mother does not shun me, my father will talk to me only if I talk to him first. I went for a few years without any contact, till they got sick and needed my help, also so that they can have a relationship with their grandson, my nephew. The rest of my family completely shuns me. I also have 2 DF'd sisters who my family has had ZERO contact with for years. And I'm not even DF'd or DA'd.
I take back EVERYTHING I said here. They Do! And they have a sick way of getting off on making others HURT!!!

mine was in the 7th grade by a boy named joe.
it took me by surprise and i was dissapionted, because he tried to swallow my face!
I didnt have my first kiss till I was 18. Of course all of my friends had been kissed, so I lied about being kissed. My first kiss was with my older JW boyfriend, who later became my fiance. We were standing in the driveway of my parent's house. He told me he wanted to kiss me. I told him I never had. He tried and I started laughing, he tried again and I laughed somemore. Finally I mellowed out, a soft kiss became a deeper kiss, and by the time we were done I had to go inside to change my jeans. :) I learned really quickly though. My second 'first kiss' was with a guy I started seeing as I was leaving the witnesses. One night we sat in my car talking for hours and I finally just leaned over and said 'can I kiss you?' Then I kissed him and we made out for what seemed like forever. Afterwards he burst out laughing and said 'what if I had said no?' With everything said and done, I will ALWAYS remember those great memories.

the other day angharad had gone out and i was joking with the kids that with mum gone, they could have a pint of beer with me if they wanted (to see what they would say).. liam (7) told me in an earnest voice "dad, i don't think i'm old enough to drink beer yet.
i think i have to be 16" (16 = grown up to him for everything ... he's already sussing out how old he needs to be to drive).. well, i told him how i was proud he was so sensible and wasn't afraid to stand up and say "no" and that i was really looking forward to when he was old enough to take me out and buy me a pint of beer (ok, father-son moment ... i was getting emotional already).

I do agree with XQ to an extent. I think everyone's situation is a little bit different. The WTBS specifically says to not have ANY contact with those who are DF'd or DA'd, but I know that many still continue to have contact. In fact a very good friend of mine is DF'd, but she was very popular and had alot of friends while a JW. When she runs in to friends out in public many do continue to talk to her, though she doesnt associate with any. I think there is a more liberal generation being bred nowadays.

Oh wow! That is soooo cute. It feels great to know that your kids really care. He sounds like a really great smart kid.
Last week I took my Spencer to Universal Studios Hollywood (a theme park). It was a rare time when I didnt have to watch what I spent and he was able to buy alot of souveniers. At one particular store he was with me at the counter while I paid, and his eyes got really wide at the amount. "That sure is alot of money, can we afford that?" he says. I tell him not to worry about it. The next morning I make breakfast and ask him to set the table for him and my cousin visiting. I sit down and there's an envelope with a drawing of us at the theme park and $7.00 in change. And a note that says 'Thank you for taking me'. I got all teary-eyed.
One funny story though about drinking alcohol: My friend and I had taken Spencer to the mountains to play in the snow. When we are done we usually stop at a lodge and order hot chocolate before the drive home. Spencer was playing and got hit by a snowball, and starts crying. He was only 6 so give him a break. My friend says to him 'you gotta toughen up, when we stop at the lodge I think you need to drink a Jack and Coke in stead of hot chocolate to toughen you up, be a man.' Well after I ripped my friend a new one for talking to Spencer like that, we headed to the lodge. Where Spencer promptly ordered a Jack and Coke. I just about crawled under the table, and had a wondeful time explaining that to the waitress.

I was dating at 18 and engaged by 19, to someone 11 years older than me. At the time I thought I was the smartest thing in the world. I wanted to get married so I could get out of my parent's house, and he wanted to get married to have sex. I was too young, but not to young to know I shouldnt get married. I can only imagine what my life would be like now and the people I owuld have hurt.
btw, wanted to point out that the above post is notperfectyet's 777th post. I think that's a pretty cool number.
