Thankyou all so much for looking after Hoppy during her visit. You have all been so kind and generous and I really appreciate it. I mss her a lot and it makes me feel better knowing she is being cared by such kind people.

we have a visitor from far away with us, "hopscotch" as she is known on the board.. we would to put out a "shout-out" for any and all who would like to join us for a meetup this coming weekend, august 21 or 22. we are open to suggestions for where and when.
i would like to encourage any in the area, and even if you are not, to join us.
i cannot tell you how wonderful it is to meet up with the kindred spirits of those who are on the journey we are all on.

i found it amazing being raised in the witnesses to see exactly who got appointed sometimes as an elder.
it seemed that the criteria in my opinion had more to do with getting 10 hours a month in field service, answering at meetings, carrying microphones as a ministerial servant, or handling the magazine or literature counter !
in doing these " functions " and attending meetings on a regular basis - a man was thought to be considered " spiritually strong " and qualify to be an elder and serve on judicial committees judging people's personal problems.
I first became a witness at age 15. The congregation was full of relatives, and unless you were one of them, you didn't really exist. So the main criteria to becoming an elder or servant in that congregation was being related. Nothing elses mattered - relationships were your qualifications. One young man about 20 years of age (related to half of the congregation and nearly all of the elders) was averaging just over 5 hours a month, had gone to court a few months earlier for doing 90 mph down a 35mph road, had been caught smoking a year or two earlier, but he was still made a servant. He later became and elder...blood line was all that mattered.
In the next congregation I was told you had to 'polish the car' to become and elder - 'the car' was the PO. And that piece of sound spiritual advice came from another elder. If you put on a vaneer or spirituality and ran around after the PO - hey presto, next CO viist you were in. Needless to say these 2 congregations were riddled with problems and unhappiness. These congregations were run by sick minds and caused many heartaches for the insignificant plebs. But if you weren't a relative or member of the 'elders club' (as one sister whose hubby was an elder called it), you didn't really exist. On elderly brother told me once that he felt like he could turn up naked and none of them would have noticed.
The scriptural qualifications for becoming an elder were mostly irrelevant. Everyone knew it, but the elders were either too stupid to realise everyone knew it, or didn't really care what the plebs thought. Sad really but as they say, the culture of an organisation comes from the top!

approximately five weeks ago, i visited the local library and searched every book i could find that discusses the destruction of jerusalem in ancient times.
if you didn't see that thread, you can find it here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/192813/1/607-b-c-e-a-trip-to-the-local-library-with-pictures.
the results were conclusive: all secular sources agree that jerusalem was destroyed in 587/586 bce.
Those demon inspired misguided worldy historians just can't get it right! Only the F&D slave can give you the correct date....
On a more serious note - thanks and well done Mentallyfree. Unfortunately, all the proof in the world is probably not enough to overcome the average mind controlled JW brain.
Thanks, Moogle
No offence taken finallsomepride - I have no idea what Koshie would have meant by that but my guess is he was pandering to the large population of Kiwi's living here, especially since NZ is part of Australasia and no doubt many of your fellow countrymen watch his show...good for the ratings.
NZ might get to the next round but Australia is pretty much history now.
Good luck to NZ finallsomepride - hope you do well.

I watched the game between Germany and Serbia and was utterly appalled at the refereeing. He destroyed that game and from what I've heard from a few soccer enthusiasts at work the same bad standard of refereeing has destroyed a few other games as well - rapidly losing interest.
I'm an Aussie and I'm glad the Kiwi's won. But I think we might have a few delusional Kiwi's on board here - we usually support your country and I can' t say I've ever heard anyone from Australia trying to steal your limelight. Time for a Kiwi reality check.

one of the words of today was concentric - sharing a common center.. which set me to thinking about eccentric - out of center.. i've been told that i'm eccentric.. have you ever been told that?.
thanks.. syl.
No - not at all eccentric. But I would classify myself as a fringe dweller.

or to put it another way "billions now living will die" a horrible terrifying death if they don't obey the gb.
doesn't sound so appealing now does it?.
LUKEWARM - I love your forum name - very clever. And your choice of avatar is brilliant. I haven't seen anything so relevant and funny in a long time.
Well done.

i used to enjoy do paul illingsworth's talks.
he thought he was a greek scholar.. anyone that you liked (or didn't)?.
Michael Dawson and his wife Roslyn - what a couple! They are everything you wouldn't want to be. Words like, arrogant, self-centred, ungrateful, rude....come to mind. I miss them like a hole in the head. I think I'd rather be the pope than this guy. As far as personality goes, his wife Roslyn reminds me of Imelda Marcos. Sad really. I think Jehovah is building them a mezzanine floor in the new system so they don't get contaminated by an of the mere mortals that might survive.

does anybody personally know people at bethel that are "apostate" but still undercover?
surely there has to be a handul at least.
perhaps they are still there, until they can get things in order to leave...
Having a brother who has been in Bethel for about 32 years, I totally agree with George that they become institutionalised, much like a long-term prisoner does. I've seen it with my own eyes - every year it got worse and reality seemed to fade into oblivion. These people have no idea what life is like outside; very few skills that an employer would call transferable; no financial resourses to see them through for even a few weeks. Sadly, these people try to then write articles to tell us how to deal with life in a world they know nothing about. Rather ironic really.
A few years ago when my brother was still talking to us, he came to our house to help us do a few jobs outside in the yard. I had to actually show him what a weedeater/whippersnipper is and how it works and how to start it. Hard to imagine that someone in their late 50's had no idea how to use one of these. Why? Because they live in a fantasy land called Bethel where everytbing is done for them - they become institutionalised.
Bethel is their security blanket - even if they know it is all a hoax, and I'm sure many do, where else can they go? I guess they are like the mistreated wife that stays with the bad husband because she feels too insecure to leave. It defies all logic but that is what many do - and Bethelites stay in Bethel.
