The other argument I've heard used, is that celebrating ones birthday brings unwarranted attention to the individual rather than god. Well anniversaries bring the same attention to a couple that an individual would receive on their birthday, would you not agree?.

Praying for holy spirit
by JWinprotest insince i'm in a complaining mood, i'll just throw one more in there.. one of the brothers praying at my circuit assembly said, "jehovah may your holy spirit continue to operate on the faithful and discreet slave.".
i thought, what a stupid thing to pray for.
if these guys are already ordained by god, why would we have to pray to god to ask him to continue supplying them with holy spirit, by their standard these guys should never lose it.. alright, that's it for today.. .

I always felt very strongly, even back when I was a full blown JW, that birthdays and anniversaries were exactly the same, and that they should either, both be cancelled, or both be celebrated. But when I heard the speaker wishing them a happy anniversary, it made me angry that everyone hearing that wish didn't connect the 2 celebrations, just because someone didn't lose their head celebrating an anniversary in the bible.
Anyways, just my rant for the day.......carry on!

This may be the first step to mainstreaming as so many on here have predicted.
They will soften their view on many issues, to win back Russia's favor and to stop other countries close to Russia from following suit.

The phrase "The Truth"
by lepermessiah inso, i am curious..... how many of you have a hard time getting that phrase out of your vocabulary?.
i have been conscienciously trying not to use it at all, so now when i am in a conversation with a jw, its amazing how often they use that phrase.
i look back and wonder "god, did i say that that often?

Does anyone else recall something coming out about 10 years ago, that JW's should stop saying "I am in the truth" but rather the correct term was I've got the truth? Everybody made a huge deal about it for a few months, but after noticing that nobody could shake the old habit it was dropped and things just went back to how it was. I'm pretty sure something was printed as well.

I'm a huge fan, and I've been following qualification quite closely. Italy is my team howevr if England has both Lampard and Gerrard healthy, I think they will be the team to beat.

To you what was the Watchtower Socity's biggest lie ?
by The Almighty Homer inyes, what was the biggest lie that you can think of, that persuaded you to realize that they were not who they said they were ?.
for myself it would have to be the year they picked as the destruction of ancient jerusalem 607 bc.. i have an assumption this was done purposely to coincide correctly with making 1914 an a important pivotal date.
in human history, which by all factual evidence it was not.. unassuming and deceiving manipulation for self marketing purposes.

Hi notewe, welcome.
I need a lot of work in the judgemental department, and I'm wondering if this is causing my hesitation to leave.....the fear that others may say of me, what I most certainly would have said of them back when I had my head stuck up the WTS' you know what! When I say others, I mean my family, because I really couldn't care less what the others say.

Once I stopped being judgmental of other people I found I cared less about how others might be judging me. Basically, I was worried about being judge as much as I, myself, was judging others.
Very insightful Elsewhere, I think you may have identified my problem as well. I never thought of it this way.
