Hope this works, I've never posted a link before. Interesting article on religion and personal income, not that any of it comes as much of a surprise. I apologize if it's already been posted.

by run dont walk invictorian sky has a great thread on music.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/57646/1.ashx.
it got me thinking, about tv shows, anything in particular you were told not to watch, being a little kid in the 70's i do remember hearing shows from the platform that we should not watch.

Happy Days was banned in my household because they used the phrase "sit on it".
Also; Three's Company, All In The Family, anything with magic or sorcery i.e. Smurfs, and Wrestling was a big no-no, mainly because we imitated the wrestlers.

Top ten ways to improve this year's Memorial
by JimmyPage in10. have the coboe greet everyone at the door dressed as the easter bunny.. 9. wine for the anointed and beer for the great crowd.. 8. bland unleavened bread replaced by hawaiian sweet rolls.. 7. memorial talk replaced by live local congregation production of "jesus christ superstar".. 6. kh library reserved to commemorate buddha for those of the "reincarnated class".. 5. no brothers passing the emblems, instead will be single sisters in bikinis.. 4. inactive ones issued complimentary marijuana joint to help them cope with being dragged back to the hall again.. 3. suit and ties forbidden, replaced by t-shirts emblazoned with "jesus is my homeboy".. 2. raffle to win copy of "crisis of conscience" autographed by the governing body.. 1. guest appearance by jesus himself, but only in brooklyn.. .

Yes Blondie, she is an absolute social butterfly. She makes friends everywhere. We have kids from the neighbourhood over all the time. She attends all the parties she's invited to.
I suspect the question was prompted from something my mom or my wife's mom may have said to her, a concern I expressed on a previous thread. Or it may be the increased number of visits we've been getting from elders, expressing how much they miss us and inviting us to the memorial. Or it may have been something we said to trigger her memory. In any case, other than last year's memorial, it's been almost 2 years since we attended meetings.

Last night, completely out of the blue, my 6 year old daughter, asked my wife and I why we don't go to meetings anymore. She actually said that she misses them. I know, where have I failed!!!
We were both kind of stunned and weren't sure how to answer it. After a few seconds my wife used the excuse that we're very busy with work and other activities so we don't have time to go. I whispered under my breath, "because it's a dangerous cult, and they hurt children honey".....that got me a slap on the back of the head by wifey. But then I told her, that if we go to meetings we have to stop doing a lot of the fun things that she loves, like bithdays, holidays, soccer, karate etc. She replied, "oh, is that why we didn't do christmas last time?" (This year was our first year celebrating with a tree and gifts.)
My question to you is, at what age do I introduce discussions about the dangers of being associated with the org and going to meetings? I'm afraid that if I associate JWs with danger, she will think differently about her grandmothers who are both JW.The reason I ask this is because she will, most certainly, face pressure from JW relatives to follow the org (I suspect it has started already) so I need to counterattack.......but when?

Honduras plane crash - So much for divine protection
by JWinprotest innot sure if anyone has started a thread on this.
here's an article on the plane crash in honduras.
the article mentions that the man from toronto that died moved to honduras along with his wife two years ago and joined other jehovah's witnesses to teach bible studies.. when tragedies fall on those leading immoral lives they are very quick to point out that perhaps it was a result of losing god's divine protection.

I certainly don't know how. My mom is still alive and I'm finding myself resenting her big time for the same reason. I keep reminding myself of what your therapist suggested, that she was a victim, and that the witnesses came into her life at a very vulnerable stage. But when I think of the years I've lost and all the things I had to sacrifice because of her it turns me against her. The thing that really burns me is the guilt tactics she used to get us to follow her into this cult. It was relentless!
Did you ever get the opportunity to tell your mom how you truly feel about the religion?

Has anyone else encountered this?
by JWinprotest inmy mil, who is part of a portuguese speaking congregation, told my wife that they began giving everyone an english copy of the internal study version of the wt along with their portuguese copy.
she's worried because she thinks they are planing to eventually move them to an english congregation, like they have done with other languages in the area already.
i think there might be a real lack of brothers to take the lead in these foreign congs and the ones they do have are aging rapidly.

That's where the problem lies. The majority cannot speak english. The branch office just doesn't want to use the resources and they don't have the man power to keep a congregation going especially when there is little demand for that language in the territory. They have already done it with an italian cong nearby. They just sit there week after week in the KH nodding their head ignorantly.

Or maybe they are giving out the english copy to benefit the younger ones who's first language is english.
She is a bit paranoid because back in the early 90's they eliminated Portuguese congregations altogether for about 5 or 6 years before opening a few back up, and I don't think she fully recovered from it. She pretends it doesn't bother her, but I know it does.
Can anyone from a foreign group let me know if they are doing this in other congregations as well?
