cantleave - I was referring to an old poster who would keep going on about how she told the elders she posted on here and that they were ok with it. She was a complete fantasist.
In a way I can understand the programme. I was in a similar situation growing up and was around her age. I had no witness friends either and it was very difficult.
However, i don't for one second believe that the parents were active witnesses.

Watching it at the moment! Maybe they're in one of those "liberal" congregations in England where they can do martial arts. You know the kind - where the elders say its ok to come on boards like this one!

rock and roll: ditto it describes sex therefore is bad.
Yes talking about sex is bad. The only exception is during the Washtowel "study" where oral and anal sex is discussed in front of children.

it still amazes me that i was a jehovah's witness for 27 years and never thought twice about these types of talks other than i need to make sure my act is together when the end comes, and now i can't even read/hear it without getting mad.

There was a young guy on this year who had hardly left his house for a few years. They didn't put him through even though which was probably wise after the Subo situation earlier in the year.

before i was born my dad joined when two jws came to our house around the same time my grandpa (my dad's dad) died.
i remember my mom telling me that my dad took this very hard.
I've even heard witnesses say that personal selfishness is why they join. They are initially attracted because of the hope of seeing dead loved ones again.
You've got to admit - its a pretty good way of hooking people into the cult! Unfortunately if you want to leave - you can't.

several years ago a rabbi from out-of-state accepted a call to a community in houston, texas.

reminds me this past week of something i saw on facebook
a facebook friend wrote about a text (sms) message she had received about 22 missionaries that had been killed somewhere (didn't give the location). Cue a discussion starting among a few witnesses about how they had received it and it wasn't true as no missionaries are in that country and that the rumour was started by apostates!
I googled this 22 christian thing and surprise surprise what I found! a load of articles about various rumours of Christians being given the death penalty in Afghanistan.
To think they were blaming this on apostates! As if we would make up rumours - we tell the real truth about "the truth".
my daughter told me that she refused the swine flu vaccine, even though she is in a risk category and could receive it.. since we know that the watchtower society banned small pox vaccinations for years when it first became available, i am curious to know if the watchtower society is doing this again, with the swine flu vaccine.. has anyone heard of this happening now?

i was speaking with a lady today & found out she's been a nurse in the blood transfusion unit at our hospital for the past 15 years.
i said, "i have an off-the-wall question for you...i was having a discussion with somebody about jehovah's witnesses.
i know they're not allowed to get blood transfusions but they can get fractions, right?
Creativ - that sounds a bit like a talk my parents heard a few years ago by someone who was on the HLC at London Bethel and gave a "special" talk at their congregation one Saturday evening.
His illustration was that fractions would be like to taking a gun (a thing that kill) and taking it all apart and then reusing the screws, individual components etc. Even though I was still active at the time it just didn't make sense to me then and makes even less sense now!
those of us who've been around long enough will understand the title.
what we are looking for here are examples of the society's lack of taste.. for example, i'm sure our kingdom hall wasn't the only one in the 70's with dark brown carpeting that rose halfway up the walls and a nice trendy rubber plant in the corner of the platform!.
