What was your reaction when first introduced to the "1914" doctrine?
by highdose ini studied the paradise book, you may remember there was a whole chapter it in about the dream, the tree getting chopped down, time, time and half a time etc.
now i was very young ( but of course spirtualy mature (!
) when i studied this but i remember seeing the person explain this doctrine to me and it was like.... " ok now you see this scripture here?

in our defense i would like to point out that the doctrine of the JW's in the early 80's was alot more plausible than it is now.
Then there was an end date in sight, we knew once all those elderly ones starting popping off that armargeddon would come and it would be soon. The JW's used to socailise alot more, there wasn't as much control ( although there was still alot) and there was alot of focus on prohecys etc. It made it feel like a proper religon that meant somthing. And we all knew that armargeddon really was just around the corner because well... look how old that generation is now!
These days of course the religon is quite different, no wonder they have had to abandon one "teaching book" after another. The goal posted got not only moved but taken away as far as when armargeddon is coming. Control is absolute over flock, socailsing hardly happens. And the articles, talks and books are now all " colour by numbers" type. No meaty scriptural disscussions, just the same scriptures used over and over again.
My distate was first alerted properly by the constant glorifing of the GB, always "1914" this and "we were chosen in 1919" that, some how god ( whatever his name is) got lost and replaced by the men in Brooklyn. Also i noticed at one assembly that when i looked back at my notes , the same scriptures had been used over and over again. Having picked up on this i began noticing it all the time. I thought out of all the scriptures in the bible ( which are all meant to be benifical) they are only using a small pool of them.
I think the flock has become disilusioned and resentful. They were promised and got let down. They can't leave because it would wreak their lives and the only know that way of life anyway. So they take it out on eachother, back stabbing, in fighting and blabbing to the elders if theres the slightest chance of getting someone in trouble.

" ok now you see this scripture here? well if you apply it to this totaly unrealated scripture way acrros the bible ( flick flick flick) and then cross reference it to this other unrealted part of the bible ( flick flick flick) then you will see that a "time" is x amount of years, and then if we look at this part of the bible ( flick flick flick) you will see that this botched up explaination must be to do with the dream in the origanal part of the bible that we were in ( flick flick flick) and if you go to this other unrealted scripture ( flick flick flick) you will see therefore that it is obvious that Jesus came in 1914, its all there crystal clear, how could anyone think otherwise!?"
And i remember thinking " youv'e just put together a bunch of random scriptures to make them say whatever you wanted... i could do the same with winne the pooh!" but of course i decided that this must just be me lacking in spiritual maturity, and i stayed quiet.
What was your reaction?
BTW ... just for fun...
" and winne the pooh did say unto piglet " as soon as kanga comes back from the 100 arce wood with the honey jar then shall we jorney to roo's sandy pit"... now if you cross reference this with another unrealted part of the adventures of winne the pooh you will see here it says " and Eyore did lift up his eyes and catch sight of the honey jar and he proceeded to say "oh no!"" ...now if we take the numerical value of the words "oh no" and apply them to the atomic value of honey we get number XXX... if we go to this other part of winne the pooh you will see it says " and they did venture forth to Christopher Robins house and to bed "goodnight winne the pooh" said Christopher Robin" ... now if we take the letters in "Christopher Robin" and divde them by the privous number xxx... you will see it is very obvious that christ came in 1914! and Jehovahs wittnesses most certainly have the truth!""

I'm not frightened anymore
by highdose inif i were to introduce you to the old jw style sister highdose, you would meet someone who was terrified of everything.
meeting new people, public speaking, driving, everything in the world especailly worldly people, swimming, drinking in bars, walking the streets, unauthorised banned books, "dodgy demonic films", music, apostates, getting lost and much else.
i lived in fear of the great and terrible unknown that might come and "get" me!.

Three years out and i've realised just this past month i've made a major break through. I'm not afraid anymore. Addmittedly these past three years have been somthing of a rollar coaster. Rather than fading gradually out of the JW's i broke away suddenly, ran away and plunged straight into the deep end of the real world. I've been treading water up till now trying to bluff my way around, but now i'm diving deep under. Theres no dark scary monsters lurking in the depths, i can tell you that.
In fact in a way its rather disaapointing how unscary things really are when you confront your fear of them. Sort of like going to see a movie that everyones told you is really scary, and then saying " what was that all about? THAT was supposed to scare me?"
My JW child was one who lay awake at night, terrifiled of demons and persecution. Isolated from reality i had no idea how to behave in a normal non jw manner which created terrible problems for me at school. But if i could manage to get in a time machine and go back to tell her what she would become in the future theres no way she would belive me.
I kinda feel like those olympic hurdle jumpers. Wether i liked it or not for the past three years instead of shuffling along i've been jumping one hurdle after another, till i've got to the point were i'm just flying...
I now treat fear in a totaly different way, rather than it crippling me i can understand why bungy jumpers get a thrill. It is thrilling to do somthing scary and then say "yeah! i did it!" which realisiation is always followed by " lets do it again!".

Are YOU Drastically Different Since Leaving The Witnesses?
by minimus inor are you pretty much the same, as a person?.
do you still worry about doing everything just so?.
do you still suffer from depression and angst?.
-
highdose
i'm a totaly different person. if i could get in a time machine and go back to see myself five years ago i doubt i would recognise myself. I used to worry 100% of the time about everything and anything, now is 20%. i used to be never able to relax and let go. i was judgemental of others and had a closed mind.
totaly different person

dos it really matter if it was a cross or a stake???
by highdose inwhat does it matter?
i belive its been found that the romans used both, so what does it matter?.
what does it matter that the roman word for cross sounds also like a word for another god?.
-
highdose
seriously? what does it matter? i belive its been found that the romans used both, so what does it matter?

veinous sounds like peinus... so maybe you shouldn't mention veins? might stumble someone(!)
i thought the whole point about jesus dying was just that... he died... what does it matter what shape the wood was????!!
... rock sounds like cock, so you definatly should never go rock climbing... someone might get the wrong impression and be stumbled(!)
seriously whats the big deal here "no! jesus died on a stake not a cross! don't eat the cheap crackers and wine at the memorial, don't have your tits showing when you get baptised... wear a white t shirt that will immedialy go see-through instead, don't talk about sex, just read about it endlessly in the bible, don't question the GB... cos ya never know they might be right?"

Did you enjoy talking to vicars on FS?
by highdose ini knew some jw's who loved to get their teeth into the local church guy.
thought they'd show him just how much more they knew than he did.
i think the vicars just humoured them.. they used to come away saying " you could tell he was really impressed about how well we knew our bible!
