supposedly, on an episode of jeopardy, one of the questions asked was which version of the bible was considered the most accurately translated from the original hebrew and greek text and the answer was the new world translation.

i tried looking this up online to no avail.

Guys, it's not an urban legend. I saw the episode. They asked about most accurate translation, the answer was NWT. Apparently they based that on a review of Bibles done by Jason BeDuhn.

was anyone embarrassed when a brother would stand up in a restaurant and give a group prayer where other non-jw's could hear it?

did you feel impositioned when that happened?

how about whenever and where ever it happened, like a family prayer where it was expected that you would agree with everything said?

I recently went out to lunch with my boyfriend and his mom. I learned that she always asks him to say grace. I respectfully bow my head and say amen even though I don't believe in God.

the other day i went to the local religious book store, where i saw a honk if you love jesus bumper sticker.

i bought it and put it on the back bumper of my car, and im really glad i did.

Has anyone ever ratted out there family member to the socitey for talking to a disfellowhipped family member?

hi everyone, the reason why i ask this question is (aka i've been defellowshiped for 16 years now) because within the past month my mom and brother and sister which are witnesses (after going to the famous assembly )have been bugging me, i've tried to do it in a nice way and tell my dear mother to leave me alone stop calling me and dont come around my house.

she won't listen, i have never been close to my family or have had a relationship with them.. so it' doesnt bother me that they dont talk to me.

but my point is that they need to follow their own rules.

Offer a relationship--on your turns. Invite them over for all your holiday celebrations. Spend time with them and be up front about your non-witness activities. Talk about what you're up to with your church (or atheist group, whatever your thing is). If they want to preach at you, say, "That's nice. Did you know my church is teaching about . . ." and preach right back at them. Just act like what you're doing and talking about is the most natural thing in the world; which, of course, it is.

Unloaded on the husband of my wife's study sister last night, how much damage did I do to myself??

well had a really good weekend away from home, but i guess i knew that the respite from the wts would end.

tuesdays are the day my wife has her personal bible study with the sister and she has also had the husband come over on tuesday afternoons so the son can have the pleasure of a bible study (which he loathes, he is a high school junior and has no interest in this stuff).

i get home from work late, after a fairly long day and the guy is still there.
